Ms. Deborah absolutely needs to work on her customer service skills. From the phone call to speaking to her in person was a very unpleasant experience. You greet her with "Hello, how are you?" And she looks at you and just says "okay" lol Usually when you speak to a leasing professional (me being one) you expect them to be welcoming and kind. She unfortunately was very short and dry as if she didn't want to talk to us in the first place. If the apartments themselves weren't nice, I would've been turned off by speaking to her on the phone and never went in.

We've lived here since August and we have yet to meet an unhappy tenant. The staff we've met: front desk- Aleah and Adena; maintenance- David and Ty; management - Annie and Tim...are all friendly and professional. Upon signing up we were offered discounts and promotions and help (financially) ending our lease with our Cockeysville apartment. Amenities are important to us. The best James Run amenities are: a fenced playground, dog park, community garden, building key fob entry, elevators, car wash station, salt water pool, free valet at-the-door trash pickup, EV charging stations, fully equipped gym and large community spaces with a regulation size Brunswick pool table. We're next door to Chipotle, Starbucks, Royal Farms, Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse and more. Also, James Run is a short drive to downtown Bel Air. The James Run community is a healthy mix of Yuppies and boomers. Every morning, because we're boomers, we walk to the leasing building for free coffee. Good luck with your apartment search.

Had access to a pool, small gym and game room, free bikes to rent, was across the street from Trader Joe's and hwy 695 access, and free parking. Great safe environment and nice, clean apartments! The maintenance people were extremely nice (I spoke decent Spanish so we had good conversations). Other than one of our roommates, me and my other roommate never had too many issues living here. Bad: The cost of the apartments are kinda overpriced ($2000 for a 3 bedroom apartment is excessive, even for Maryland. Better to invest in a house). Rena (one of the managers) was honestly frustrating/annoying to deal with as she always acted incapable of doing anything or researching, talked over you often, and rarely attempted to solve the problem, so I almost always had to end up asking Sam or Mike. So if u need anything, don't bother with her too much unless it's something simple. They put an EVICTION notice on our door after being a couple of days late on rent (even after my roommate had notified them weeks ahead of time; this was the first time being late out of the 2 years living here). They told me they do that to everybody late but normally as a warning, which is honestly pretty sickening to do.. There was mice before they took over that would come in the winter, but ever since this new management, I didn't see any after their last extermination which was great. They may need to add one more dumpster and recycling bin as it often filled up and overflowed.

She is a great manager and I hope she stays there for awhile. Chelsea reset the rules and made sure the building was secure. I would recommend anyone who needs a short term place to live in Towson. 6/23: I have lived in the Winthrop since three months opened. I have watched the building grow from not having anybody here to fully filled. I do love this building, but we have had a few issues. Management is always responsive and kind, but the problem is, there's not enough staff. They promised when they opened that they would get a doorman 24/7. They have not. There is a desk that is not used. Things get hectic on the weekends. I've seen children unsupervised in the common areas - which is NOT allowed (and written in the lease contract). Three children were downstairs one night at 11:30 pm. They were around the age of 8 and two boys were throwing rocks in the fountain. I was seriously afraid they'd break it. I told the leasing office, but they are not here after hours do not much they can do. People prop the front door open and I swear half the people using the amenities aren't living here. They say there's a security guard, but I really don't understand this. There are a lot of noise complaints here, but I won't say anything bad about that. Walls are soundproof. We live on the side of Dulaney. It is loud, but Winthrop walls actually help that! I do love our apartment size. I feel realitively safe here. There has been times though that a homeless guy came to sleep in the lobby. He said he was looking for a place. He wasn't. I was down there the entire time he was there - slept, used the restroom and walked out. That's probably the worst I've seen, but the leasing office was open at the time so I think they would've kicked him out if anything went wrong (safety reasons). I love the amenities but as my husband calls it, there are tragedy of the commons. People leave trash in the halls on the weekends. I'm afraid of bugs/rodents coming. We did have an ant issue but it was resolved. The good thing is in the common areas, they clean it every day. The cleaning staff is friendly too and they always say hi. We have had a few appliances break. We contacted the leasing office and they were replaced the next business day (although I did freak out when we almost had a flood from our washer breaking in the middle of the night but my husband dealt with the water). It's expensive here, but you get what you pay for - you pay for the area. You won't find a place much cheaper and I do love the staff here. Even when staff is replaced, they're always nice. I just wish they hired more staff (i.e. Doorman/security staff). I would recommend this building, but not long term. Maybe for a year or two until you plan on buying a house (which we will be buying when we move out). It's a lovely area and close to shopping! I can walk to work which is why we moved here. If you're looking for short time convenience, it's a great community!

I rented at the Southerly for 2 years and recently moved out. In Sept. of 2018, I moved into a…read morenew, fancy building and was told before renting that not many college kids rented here. Well, that was a blatant lie as anyone living there knows. The building under the management at the time quickly became trashy, noisy, doors always left open, dog crap all over the grass and sidewalks and endless college parties. I complained constantly but got very little response. I was glad that I only lived there part-time. When Ashley Paris came in as the Property Manager, I did see major changes. The maintenance staff seemed more diligent, there were many e-mails sent out about the rules for the property and I believe consequences have been handed out for violations. The noise and college parties have seem to have quieted down. Ashley and her staff are much more action driven than the previous regime. The building is very nice yet expensive. There are still the idiots who do not pick up after their dogs and many who could not park a car properly to save their life. However, Ashley and her staff do listen to complaints and I believe act on them as soon as possible and try to get the best outcome. Unfortunately, there are those that do not care about where they live and anybody else. It is a nice place to live but long story short, there are many college kids(my next door neighbors were college kids and very nice, never had problems with them), people who throw their trash where ever they want, are loud late at night and refuse to pick up after their very large dogs.

Updated - 6/3/18 My husband and I moved out in March. While…read morehe management team there was nice and friendly, not much appeared to be done to address people that just couldn't respect others' and keep gates shut, quiet, etc. every month was a passive email to residents reminding of rules but that was it. Maybe pressure from larger corporate office to push to occupancy? They did hire a security officer role for the building and the one they had more recently seemed to at least not hang out with the tenants. I'd still question paying 3k a month to live with Towson U students on daddy's money, people that don't seem to want to secure the premises, etc. Its just not a good value for the area. Update: Recently the management made a great effort with tenants to ask about some of the concerns about the property. As a result, management indicated they were in the process of hiring a security manager for the site. It's a great effort and may go a long way to helping some of the issues that have been going on. The management is great at responding to questions and concerns and hopefully their larger management company will be able to give them the resources to help. Edited: I am placing this review as a current tenant in hopes that this generates a response by Dolben as nothing else has. 1. They allow college age tenants who think nothing of calling people "gay" or "faggot" while at the pool or joking publicly about having sex with unconscious women. Edit: they have also allowed an African American female to feel unwelcome in common areas. 2. They allow people who are non-tenants to sleep in common areas regularly and overnight. 3. They allow tenants to throw "frat" parties and have no mechanism to police this. 4. The thought of engaging security was not immediately considered as a necessity for this "luxury" apartment. 5. The front door has been broken and open to the public for months. While a new door may be coming, nothing is being done to address tenant behavior in shutting the doors. 6. The side gates are regularly left open. 7. The first floor door inside the garage has been broken and propped open for months. As a woman, this is unacceptable and I feel unsafe.
