Howdy Bargain Center is a shopping adventure! If you miss the 99 Cent Store Howdy is probably closer to it than the Dollar Tree. I've been going here for years. HBC is a pretty big place with a big parking lot. It's a clean and orderly hodgepodge which makes it fun & you never know what you'll find. Prices are low! Anywhere between $1 and $15. I've found Limited Edition Russell Stover Chocolates, No-Carb Noodles & T-Shirts with the weirdest graphics and/or words on them in a variety of sizes but sometimes not the one you need. I have to say the last couple of visits didn't offer a great selection of Tee's so maybe the supplier's supplies are drying up. Hope not. Garden accessories, oddball knick-knacks, food & sodas, gift bags, office & school supplies, toiletries, auto & household items, etc. Some brands you'll know & some you won't but that's part of the fun. The people who run the 2 registers are fast & friendly & shelves are kept stocked. read more

One of my favorite little shops. Every day they have random little items at a low cost. However beware of expired food and items. Always check the date before buying. The downfall to this little store is their poor customer service. There are two obese cashiers with a wide nose who look completely miserable. Not only do they have poor social skills they treat customers badly. They aggressively bag things almost as if they're upset that we are bothering them. Don't even bother asking them a simple question about a product because they're easily annoyed and will roll their eyes at you. They're unfriendly, unkind, rude and unprofessional. The manager Jesus is no better, he should've been fired YEARS ago. He has horrible customer service. Instead of being a problem solver, he is a DRAMA starter. He is unhinged, and mentally unstable. Jesus is tacky, ghetto and unprofessional. I've witnessed him kick multiple customers out simply because he felt like it. If anything this store is losing money because of him. He is a true diva who has a serious power trip and acts like everyone else is beneath him. They should really train their staff better but what can you expect from such an unprofessional manager? Not everyone there is awful. There is a slim female cashier who is always greeting people, she's pleasant and kind to deal with. The guy with tattoos is also very professional, friendly, and kind. The owner is reasonable, and pleasant. If you have any issues make sure you deal directly with him. read more

It's as if they picked up the contracts that the old 99 cent stores had and kept them going. A large selection of things I haven't seen for a bit, that Dollar Tree doesn't carry, all in one store. The service was quick and friendly, and they have a massive selection of random stuff, from toys to snacks to clothing. Worth a walk through! :) read more

Today my family and I experienced a horrible experience at this howdy bargain center with the cashier specifically the dark skinned Latina not make it sound racist. The situation went like this My brother accidentally spilled his water on the floor. And the cashier decided to say something and kind of forcing my mom to pick up the spill and decided to call my brother and my mom "chochina" which refers to pig in English and that is super unprofessional. I think the store should have her take some personality classes. It was super unprofessional, if it was someone else they would have caught a defamation case. That's harassment and discrimination had she ever told any other customer that? Or is she just playing racist? read more

Most all dollar stores are the same but howdy bargain center has things other stores do not. Best bang for your buck.

I shop here every few months. There's always a new bargain. From coloring books to clothing to cutlery to car care. The front end of the store has a rotating assortment of dead stock items at a deep discount. read more

You have to know your prices because some items are more than Dollar Tree. Not super close and nothing I would go out of my way for. If I am near there I may go for select things if a deal. read more

The store located on MLK blvd and Vermont in shopping center has rude employees , particularly a young Hispanic female who was discriminating against black people who were there to purchase items . She was talking aggressive and rude. When manager was asked for an Hispanic male with a grey security shirt comes from the back and he to had a nasty discriminatory attitude and refused to assist in this incident. This store brought about harassment and hostile environment to shop in a local manner . All the employees inside this store are Hispanic and as the incident was being discussed the young lady continued to use unwanted language and unprofessionalism in store while other customers witnessed her behavior and she began to speak in Spanish to other customers and saying " they want to match my energy " as if she was suggesting a physical altercation. After over 30 minutes waiting for the manager to return to the front after several other employees radioed him on the walkie talkie he never came back to the front of the store . I will be making a formal complaint against this store and will notify who administer the grade on the store to get Corporate information . This behavior is unwanted in a prodominally black and brown community. This population is what keeps the lights on in the establishment and common courtesy to customers is all that is being asked for . Maybe a fine or firing of one bad seed will send a very strong message about this community awareness . read more

I like the store. It's kind of like walking into a 99 Cents store or a Daiso but with more than just one dollar items. I do not exactly know how to describe the kind of products they carry but just think of a cheaper version of household goods that you can find from Walmart and target. If you live close to the area then you should come check it out. Some items are the same price as Walmart while others are a little bit cheaper.I've been there a couple times. It appears they buy certain items in bulk and pass the savings along to the customer. read more

We love coming to this store because sometimes you get really lucky and find something that is a great steal for the price. Most of the items in this store are $1. If it isn't $1, it usually has the price posted on the item itself. At least the store doesn't lie about their name, like a certain chain whose name indicates their prices are only one amount. This place is just up front with you. Towards the front of the store, they have their best bargain items, and when you check the normal retail price, you see that it is indeed a good bargain from the normal price. They have a wide variety of items that you can and also cannot find at other "dollar" stores nearby as well. It can be fun picking through their shirts too. The shirts against the wall are $1 each, but you need to do your due diligence in checking each shirt for the right size and to make sure that the defect on the shirt is something you can live with. It could be something as simple as the shirt being dirty, or small holes in the shirt, or a horrible misprint during the silkscreen process. They do not offer plublic restrooms, and are very strict on customers wearing a mask (as of May 2021). Don't expect world class service, so as soon as you come to terms with that, your experience will be much better off. Establishments like this don't pay six figure salaries, so don't expect anyone to kiss your butt as soon as you walk in the store. read more

WHAT A MESS! At 7:44 pm a voice on the intercom said they'd be closing in 15 minutes. While I shopped, at only 7:53(!) a store employee approached me and said the store was "closed". I said "what time do you close?" She said "8. But you have to be out of the store by 8." (Well, that's not how the better stores do things--and they certainly don't hassle customers when closing time is still minutes away--but okaaay, I'd cooperate and be sure to check out by 8.) I kept shopping and putting things in my cart--but as I did so, moved toward the front of the store. At 7:57 I had almost reached the checkstand while still reading labels on the items I had grabbed, and making my final decisions. The cashier behind the checkstand that didn't already have a customer in line kept glaring at me and said "we're closed". I said "it's only 3 minutes to". She said "you have to be out by 8". Even though there was still PLENTY of time to check out and leave by 8, I rushed the last few feet to the counter, put aside one item and then another and another that I still wasn't sure about, and said, okay, I guess I'll just take this and this...and tossed the first item or two gently onto the counter. But starting after the first item the cashier GRABBED IT AND SAID SHE WASN'TGOING TO RING ME UP and that I should LEAVE!!! I said WHAT? and continued putting items on the counter. The cashier grabbed the next item and maybe the next and repeated that she wasn't going to check me out. I said WHY? IT'S STILL WAY BEFORE 8! WHAT'S THE PROBLEM? But she wouldn't ring up the sale and told me to leave. I said "you just lost a customer" (and, as would any rational person at this point, also said a few other things) and left. As I drove away, IT WAS ONLY 7:59--still not even 8:00! WHAT THE HECK IS YOUR PROBLEM, PEOPLE? WHY THE GAMES ABOUT YOUR CLOSING TIME? read more

This place is pretty cool they have some good stuff sometimes. I understand this is a discount store regardless of that I don't care if you work here or at Nordstroms if your able to have customer service skills here you can do it anywhere it's the principal! But yesterday I had a bad experience the cashiers here need to undergo costumer service training because the lady I went to looked like she hated her job! Let me give you a example how you should treat customers. Remember customer is always first also greet the customer, have a good attitude be kind and polite she don't say one word! Hire people that have customer service skills, experience..etc and want to work with a good attitude. read more

A great place to find all of those " about out of things" at a great price. Helpful, knowledgeable staff.

How is this place different than every other dollar store? -Large clothing selection -Large store This place is full of bargains. Also full of the typical dollar store "junk", but it's a lot bigger than most dollar stores, so there's a lot more to look through.http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/jaQEh7OyxoA_H7qOL_NByA?select=-_0626qcaASrgw_BR4pGfA In addition to including lots of dollar items, they also sell many items which are more than a dollar. They have a large clothing section, although the sizes are pretty unusual (looks like they are from Asia). http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/jaQEh7OyxoA_H7qOL_NByA?select=jkIE-DAAP_i5sb0VW-F3Dg Lots of t-shirts, men's work clothes and much more. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/jaQEh7OyxoA_H7qOL_NByA?select=mFlDw8rfhNpI6zY1nUW6Ig From gardening to toy and dog clothes, and food to greeting cards and party supplies, they have a bit of everything. The place is under new management. Their quality of merchandise has gotten worse yet their price is either the same or, in most cases, much higher than before. Not worth making an extra trip to go here when you are not getting any deals. read more

Cheap price, a variety of items. Almost anything you can find, better than 99 cents store.

This place is cool sometimes the lines are long but then rember were you are decent deals I come here for the candy you can get bags of chillies mangos and other Hispanic candy other then that I rarely come in here with the 99 cent store closed on lincoln bussiness should be booming read more

Another store I could spend hours in. We once lived close to this store and were weekly regulars. They have clothing for $.99 and up, food, kitchenware, toys, hygiene items, school/office/craft supplies, home goods, cosmetics, beauty products and more. If you scour the aisles meticulously you could find some awesome, well known brands for super cheap. I have found Downy, Dixie paper plates, Brawny paper towels, Monster drinks, O.N.E. Coconut Water, Vaseline lotions, Rubbermaid and the list goes on... This isn't Dollar Tree or the 99 cent store obviously and the only freezer section you'll find contains only bags of ice or beverages. But they carry items similar to what you might find in a swap meet and this makes them unique from your average mentioned stores. They specifically state on big posters before you enter the store, what items are not allowed on your person upon entering. This has never deterred me from shopping here even when I had bags from other stores, I gladly left them on a shelf in front of the store, as did other customers and they were fine. All kinds of miscellaneous items can be found here and it is much cleaner and wider than the Viva Bargain (which it looks similar to on Chapman & Harbor in Garden Grove). read more

Well since I am not a fan of your normal 99 cents brand stores, I hated this place walking in. I walk in all and all I see are faded old packages of made up brands? Then as I walk around I see no prices on 90%of the junk? The items with no prices had almost full shevles as most like me, are not going to spend time asking how much is this! The funny part was you have to be pretty down in the dumps with cash if need to shop here. This store made the 99 cent store seem like you were shopping in Bloomingdale's. I walked out with a generic bleach bottle I figured it is for house cleaning not wash, how bad could it be...might put holes in fabric no worries using it in trash cans, sinks, porch. I will never go back to this dump of throw away junk. It was very unoriginized dirty store. I happened upon this dump only because son had to go to Rite Aid for something so since I was already here, I went in. read more

This is a niceeee bargain store !!! U will not be disappointed its the dollar store on steroid !!

Are you looking for what? Ok they may just have it. Plus a good hunting spot for all your smalls.

They had masks for sale for a dollar. I passed by this shop a ton of times. But there's really not that many things. If your looking for like snacks then I recommend but if your looking for simple things for your budget then I recommend going but it's a little messy and ugly and a-little old read more

Lets be honest! The customer is completely crap along with the organization and pricing. If there isn't a price on an item, one is made up on the spot. As predicted, they've improved a lot since opening. Still reminds me of a different version of Viva Bargain Center down on harbor/chapman. I especially like the clothes and they have a really good selection of strange movies on dvd..Gonna have to go back and check it out again, didn't have a lot of time yesterday but this is definitely a place to stop into once a month. You can use your debit card, it's unlikely anything bad would happen with it here. The only complaint I would have is that the area is probably one of the worst parts of orange county (bums, gangbangers, hookers, graffiti, traffic, overcrowded recycling redemption center, ghetto no-name food store, etc) so only go during the daytime, avoid the Carls Jr on the other side of the street, and don't make eye contact with anybody. read more

Honestly, for quick it last minute stops this would be a great place to go to. It has clothing, foods, craft materials, etc. Something to look out for however is replicas of the food. Sometimes it's food from not the original sellers, but that's the only bad thing I have to say about this place. I just avoid buying food here. But this is a great place for things like arts and crafts and just some $5 clothes. read more

I always find what I am looking for and more. But I don't feel comfortable when I am shopping. I am constantly being dogged and followed.
