WHAT A MESS! At 7:44 pm a voice on the intercom said they'd be closing in 15 minutes. While I shopped, at only 7:53(!) a store employee approached me and said the store was "closed". I said "what time do you close?" She said "8. But you have to be out of the store by 8." (Well, that's not how the better stores do things--and they certainly don't hassle customers when closing time is still minutes away--but okaaay, I'd cooperate and be sure to check out by 8.) I kept shopping and putting things in my cart--but as I did so, moved toward the front of the store. At 7:57 I had almost reached the checkstand while still reading labels on the items I had grabbed, and making my final decisions. The cashier behind the checkstand that didn't already have a customer in line kept glaring at me and said "we're closed". I said "it's only 3 minutes to". She said "you have to be out by 8". Even though there was still PLENTY of time to check out and leave by 8, I rushed the last few feet to the counter, put aside one item and then another and another that I still wasn't sure about, and said, okay, I guess I'll just take this and this...and tossed the first item or two gently onto the counter. But starting after the first item the cashier GRABBED IT AND SAID SHE WASN'TGOING TO RING ME UP and that I should LEAVE!!! I said WHAT? and continued putting items on the counter. The cashier grabbed the next item and maybe the next and repeated that she wasn't going to check me out. I said WHY? IT'S STILL WAY BEFORE 8! WHAT'S THE PROBLEM? But she wouldn't ring up the sale and told me to leave. I said "you just lost a customer" (and, as would any rational person at this point, also said a few other things) and left. I like the store. It's kind of like walking into a 99 Cents store or a Daiso but with more than just one dollar items. I do not exactly know how to describe the kind of products they carry but just think of a cheaper version of household goods that you can find from Walmart and target. If you live close to the area then you should come check it out. Some items are the same price as Walmart while others are a little bit cheaper.I've been there a couple times. We love coming to this store because sometimes you get really lucky and find something that is a great steal for the price. Most of the items in this store are $1. If it isn't $1, it usually has the price posted on the item itself. At least the store doesn't lie about their name, like a certain chain whose name indicates their prices are only one amount. This place is just up front with you. Towards the front of the store, they have their best bargain items, and when you check the normal retail price, you see that it is indeed a good bargain from the normal price. They have a wide variety of items that you can and also cannot find at other "dollar" stores nearby as well. It can be fun picking through their shirts too. The shirts against the wall are $1 each, but you need to do your due diligence in checking each shirt for the right size and to make sure that the defect on the shirt is something you can live with. It could be something as simple as the shirt being dirty, or small holes in the shirt, or a horrible misprint during the silkscreen process. They do not offer plublic restrooms, and are very strict on customers wearing a mask (as of May 2021). Don't expect world class service, so as soon as you come to terms with that, your experience will be much better off. Establishments like this don't pay six figure salaries, so don't expect anyone to kiss your butt as soon as you walk in the store. read more

I understand this is a discount store regardless of that I don't care if you work here or at Nordstroms if your able to have customer service skills here you can do it anywhere it's the principal! But yesterday I had a bad experience the cashiers here need to undergo costumer service training because the lady I went to looked like she hated her job! Let me give you a example how you should treat customers. Remember customer is always first also greet the customer, have a good attitude be kind and polite she don't say one word! Another store I could spend hours in. We once lived close to this store and were weekly regulars. They have clothing for $.99 and up, food, kitchenware, toys, hygiene items, school/office/craft supplies, home goods, cosmetics, beauty products and more. If you scour the aisles meticulously you could find some awesome, well known brands for super cheap. I have found Downy, Dixie paper plates, Brawny paper towels, Monster drinks, O.N.E. Coconut Water, Vaseline lotions, Rubbermaid and the list goes on... This isn't Dollar Tree or the 99 cent store obviously and the only freezer section you'll find contains only bags of ice or beverages. But they carry items similar to what you might find in a swap meet and this makes them unique from your average mentioned stores. They specifically state on big posters before you enter the store, what items are not allowed on your person upon entering. This has never deterred me from shopping here even when I had bags from other stores, I gladly left them on a shelf in front of the store, as did other customers and they were fine. All kinds of miscellaneous items can be found here and it is much cleaner and wider than the Viva Bargain (which it looks similar to on Chapman & Harbor in Garden Grove). read more

Well since I am not a fan of your normal 99 cents brand stores, I hated this place walking in. I walk in all and all I see are faded old packages of made up brands? Then as I walk around I see no prices on 90%of the junk? The items with no prices had almost full shevles as most like me, are not going to spend time asking how much is this! The funny part was you have to be pretty down in the dumps with cash if need to shop here. This store made the 99 cent store seem like you were shopping in Bloomingdale's. I walked out with a generic bleach bottle I figured it is for house cleaning not wash, how bad could it be...might put holes in fabric no worries using it in trash cans, sinks, porch. Honestly, for quick it last minute stops this would be a great place to go to. It has clothing, foods, craft materials, etc. Something to look out for however is replicas of the food. Sometimes it's food from not the original sellers, but that's the only bad thing I have to say about this place. I just avoid buying food here. This was my favorite store for bargain shopping until I experienced horrible customer service today. I was profiled, followed in the store, and when I checked out, two of my items were not placed in my box. I called and politely asked if the shirts I purchased were still at the register and was immediately told by the person who sold them to me that they didn't have them without taking a moment to check. When I spoke with the manager, he was flippant and dismissive and out of frustration, I dropped the matter and will not return. They both told me that was fine with them. Great deals, but dehumanization is not worth it. Previously, I witnessed another minority being treated horribly and many of us watched in horror and agreed that the salesperson was acting inappropriately and unfairly (same salesperson). Sadly, we did not complain and I regret not having spoken up when it happened. Now I know how he felt. I hope that this store is investigated. Since management does not care, it will continue to happen. I hope that the owner reads my review. I thought that he was a Christian and I erroneously assumed that his values were prominent in his business. That was my mistake. read more

As predicted, they've improved a lot since opening. Still reminds me of a different version of Viva Bargain Center down on harbor/chapman. I especially like the clothes and they have a really good selection of strange movies on dvd..Gonna have to go back and check it out again, didn't have a lot of time yesterday but this is definitely a place to stop into once a month. You can use your debit card, it's unlikely anything bad would happen with it here. The only complaint I would have is that the area is probably one of the worst parts of orange county (bums, gangbangers, hookers, graffiti, traffic, overcrowded recycling redemption center, ghetto no-name food store, etc) so only go during the daytime, avoid the Carls Jr on the other side of the street, and don't make eye contact with anybody. read more

Underappreciated... Howdy's Bargain Center. All we need in the street is a Dollar Tree and we got a Royal Rumble. It took me awhile to want to take a step into this store, mainly because I'm just so used to going to 99 cents store or Dollar Tree.The interior of this place is not the best but they do have a lot of stuff. The only reason I came here is because I wanted some jars. They got a lot of glass surprisingly and they do have some clothes, which I'm not too sure if not 99 cents stores have. Unfortunately this place does not have produce, but then again neither does Dollar Tree. With that being said, just give this place a shot. If you find yourself maybe wanting to go to 99 cents, save that extra cent you would have spent at Dollar Tree and try to get a bargain at Howdy's Center. This place is great. They carry lots of things at affordable prices, just keep in mind that not everything is $1. They sometimes have cheap clothes but you do have to sort through all the clothes sometimes to find your size. They are pretty good ad giving you store credit for most of their merchandise. I always stop by here before heading to Ross or even Walmart because chances are that what ever i am looking for i may find it here at a cheaper price. read more
