Was able to get an appointment very quickly over the phone; they do take walk-ins, if available. They also call and text to confirm your appointment. When they text, there's a link to fill out digital paperwork. Front desk guy checked me in on time and only waited a few minutes before I went to the hot air balloon test and the (dreaded) air spray test. Waited for a minute before Dr. Michael Tran called me for the eye exam. I kindly asked if my love could join us in the room, he was cool with it. Very chill doctor (sporting a parka) and courteously laughed at our little jokes and stories. Apparently, the previously mentioned tests showed very different results from when he tested my eye sight in the exam room. Thank goodness! My vision hasn't changed since my last eye exam from years ago. Always make sure to check if your insurance covers at this Costco optometry; it could save you some money. They will email your results but you can obtain a print-out, just say please. Love this staff! Total of probably 10 minutes. read more

I scheduled my eye exam at Howard Optometry - Costco, Heather Ridge Rd., for the first time. It was my best experience ever! Scheduling my appointment went smooth, Dr. Forman is the best eye doctor you can ask for, he is very thorough and explains well all about your eye exam results / diagnosis. Very efficient and well organized I called a different location first thing in the morning to see if I could get in today and they recommended a different location since they were full - so great since I only had today to go in... The staff was great great great - friendly and accommodating (forgot the names) and Dr.tran was somebody I would definitely go out of my way to return to... Howard Optometry is simply amazing and all their staff is GENUINELY caring! Something went into my eye two Saturdays ago and I tried to flush it myself with water etc, but by Sunday morning, my right eye could barely open and was tearing a lot. There are literally NO optometrists working on Sunday and in desperation I happened to call Howard Optometry (inside Costco in Laguna Niguel, and they were actually open with an optometrist onsite! I went in right away as a walk-in patient, as you can imagine they are booked-up on Sunday. Dr. Marsha Howard was there (she's the owner of the practice) and I really can't say enough good things about her and my experience with her and many of her staff (other optometrists and office staff). Ultimately, I had a corneal abrasion on my eye that got infected and turned into an ulcer. I have been to see Dr. Howard and two of her other optometrists that work for her (Dr. Tracy Wong and Dr. Kimberly Hauser) 8 of the last 9 days, it was serious enough that they wanted to see/check me every day. All of them spent so much time with me, trying to figure out what to do, I was and am still in awe at their level of care. When I went to see Dr. Hauser 4 days after the initial visit, my conditioned had worsened. Dr. Hauser wanted me to see a corneal specialist that day and was calling around FOR ME (yes, the doctor calling for me) in between seeing other patients. I was calling too and she even told me to interrupt her between patients if the insurance rep or ophthalmologist office needed to talk to her about specifics of my condition! I felt so bad to be disrupting her seeing other patients. Victoria at the front desk also took my insurance card and was calling my insurance company and other ophthalmologist offices trying to see if she could find a corneal specialist that could see me that day and would take my insurance. I was in the office for 3 hours while Dr. Hauser, Victoria, and I were trying to figure out a specialist I could see! I was beside myself at how much they were trying to help me. I had to eventually go to the ER and Dr. Hauser even gave me her personal cell phone number for me to contact her and update her. Later that evening, Dr. Howard called me and told me she was reading the notes from Dr. Hauser that day and that she had contacted her friend (Dr. Jimmy Lee) who is a corneal specialist and set up for me to see him first thing the next morning. Dr. Howard has been in constant communication with me (phone call and text) even outside of business hours to check on my condition, just like a family member even! I've been to their clinic so many times now, I feel like I know all the employees - Imelda and Daniel are also so kind and made sure all my appointments were set. Long story short, my eye is finally improving but not out of the woods yet - Dr. Howard is so thorough she still wanted me coming in every day to see her or her other doctor's on site that day. On Saturday (one week after the incident), Dr. Howard works the entire day at her other practice in Signal Hill, and at the end of her work day, she made a trip to the Costco location just to see me at 5pm. Who does that these days? Moreover, she did not even charge me for subsequent visits, I told her I want to pay her and she said, "I just want you to get better." I saw Dr. Tracy Wong this past Monday and she even told me, "I'm not going to charge you, use the money to go get the other medicine..." I've never experienced this exemplary level of care by any health professionals or clinics. Sadly, in the US, it seems all the doctors, dentists, physical therapists, chiropractors etc are all about getting you in and out as fast as they can so they can see more patients to make more money. Dr. Howard and her staff are completely opposite and actually genuinely care for their patients and well-being - this is SO RARE these days - I guess there's a reason why they have 5 star reviews all around, I'd give them 10 if I could. I went to Dr. Howard for a second opinion about my eyeglass prescription 2 years ago. I had multiple pairs of glasses made at Costco after having my eyes checked at my previous doctor. I couldn't see a thing !Costco said to go back to doctor and they insisted my prescription was correct. Dr. Howard rechecked my vision and the other prescription from other Dr. was completely wrong! So I had to have all pairs replaced and I could see perfectly! Fast forward 2 years, I decided to go back to Dr. Howard. No brainer. Plus she is there on a Sunday so I don't miss work! The eye exam and Dr. Hauser was awesome. She's very nice and makes it a comfortable experience. I had an appointment but still had to wait a bit to be seen by her. The office staff consists of two women. "Serena" with the dark hair in bad condition was condescending and more interested in her frequent breaks than engaging with the patients. Poor front office representation and completely lacking in interpersonal skills, whereas Dr. Hauser is quite the opposite and was worth the wait. The other front office person smiled and more emotionally intelligent. I'd give 5 stars but as a business owner, suggest coaching for that unprofessional staff member. I'm giving Howard Optometry 5 stars primarily because of the excellent service we received from Dr. Michael Kobayashi. This was our 2nd visit to this optometry located in Costco. Dr. Kobayashi is a great optometrist - he's knowledgeable, efficient, and doesn't keep patients waiting long. Our previous Optometry, despite having an appointment, we often waited 15 minutes, but with Dr. Kobayashi, we were seen in under 5 minutes and the exam was completed in 10 minutes or less. I believe this is partly due to their high-tech equipment. The only issue I had with this optometry was the unprofessionalism of the front desk staff. I don't think it's appropriate to discuss frustrations or issues with a patient in front of other patients waiting. I witnessed the front desk staff talking about an issue with a patient who had made an appointment for glasses but also got contact lenses and had a problem with charges. They were discussing this loudly in front of me and another waiting patient. After the patient left, I heard them talking negatively about the client. I wanted to address this with them about being professional, but my husband said NO. Additionally, while I was in for my exam, also my husband overheard staff talking negatively about one of the front desk while on break. The place is a small space, so you can really hear everything in the waiting area. Despite the front desk issues, we'll continue to visit Howard Optometry because we love Dr. Michael Kobayashi's service. I hope in the future, the front desk staff will be more professional and refrain from discussing issues or frustrations in front of patients. Maybe they can address these matters during breaks instead. read more

Very fine optometrist--Dr. Tran--and a well-organized and pleasant office staff squeezed into a small corner of a giant Costco. He's been caring for my vision for a number of years now. (I grow older, he doesn't). You don't need a Costco card to see the optometrist, but you do need one to order glasses at the adjacent optician counter, where the service and personnel are equally helpful and offer a huge selection of frames at good prices. read more

This is the first time I've been to an eye Dr that listened to my concerns. He wanted to know what was happening in the past to make this time different and he sure did. I suffer from too many concussion to my head. When I go the eye Dr who don't care and I end up with glasses and contacts that are way to strong a get more migraines then my normal chronic one. He was very patient. He is a Dr that still believes in caring for his patients. I would recommend this Dr to anyone who wants to be taken care of like Dr us to do. read more

I used my insurance and tried out Howard Optometry in Laguna Niguel for a eye exam/check up. I'm an older man (63.5) and I'm not exactly an easy patient. I'm quirky and odd and frankly a bit off, but Daniel and Dr Hauser were kind and accepting of my idiosyncrasies and gave me the best and most thorough exam I've ever received. Some new cool gizmos were used I'd not experienced before but I was made comfortable and got through it all with ease.
