Worst possible place you could stay in! So dirty! Floors stained, dirty pillows, found bugs in my folded towels. Bathtub and sink stained and dirty. Needed a place to stay for a rodeo event and booked this hotel a month ago because it was rated excellent. All other hotels were booked so we were stuck! Bought cleaning supplies to clean our room! Complained to the owner and agreed to give us $10 off each day we stayed? He lied! Never refunded us a dime after staying at such a disgusting place. Please read this! My Wife and I reserved a room here and the first strike was the room was on the second floor(I specifically stated a first floor room) and the door wouldn't lock! I told the Lady at the front Desk and she said "just pull up really hard on it"! Say what?!! I told her I wanted a different room which we received. The second room had a microwave that was unplugged from the wall and looked like it was dropped down a flight of stairs! surprisingly it did work, the reason it was unplugged is because it made a popping noise all night till I couldn't take it anymore and got up an unplugged it! we were supposed to get a king size bed room but they had given them all away even though I reserved the room in advance instead had to take a room with two small beds! This whole stay was a HUGE MISTAKE from the time we got there till the time we left. I hope this review helps you to NOT stay here. Basically you get what you pay for. Not terrible but not great. My problem is with the $100 I was charged for spilling coffee on the bed. I immediately got the maid who changed the sheets but not the comforter. After I checked out I noticed I had been charged. I called and was told to speak to the manager who is only there in the middle of the night. I have called at least 3 times and have never been able to get ahold of her. I was also told the second time that they thought the manager had refunded me. Needless to say I have received no refund or been able to talk to the manager. Don't stay here! Keep on driving by and find another place. There was a huge storm when I saw this place and really needed a good nights sleep. The price they charge is criminal! A few dead bugs on the carpet under the window, wallpaper is coming loose off the walls, hairs found on the pillows, one working lamp. Also, one of the entrances to the room was right outside the parking lot. Not a bad idea, but I didn't care for it. When I opened it, the carpet inside was peeling and soaked. I really enjoyed how Steve C. started out his review "The room itself had the bones of a decent motel" because that's exactly how I feel. The room seemed clean, it had all the basic necessities, TV, clean sheets, shower (kinda small), microwave, and refrigerator. Besides the two cigarette burns I found on my sheets I found the room acceptable. The wifi was extremely slow and I ended up just hot spotting my laptop to my phone. If you're looking for a cheap stay in a decent Inn, then this is your place. They do offer continental breakfast, and over all the inn is pretty quiet besides a few loud motercycles. Personally I prefer a little upscale hotels in my stay so I probably won't return. read more

Update: I have now stayed for 3 weeks and this hotel has gone straight to shit!!!!! The recent hail storms have destroyed this buildings roof and water just pours in like no other. Rooms and hallways smell bad now. They do have a construction crew working but are moving extra slow. I won't come back. 1 star. read more

This hotel gave me a headache and a half. My grandma and I called ahead and booked a room with 2 queen sized beds and when we arrived they gave us a room with one king bed. We had already book the room with 2 beds so obviously this was an inconvenience we wanted what we paid for. We asked them to move us to the room we reserved and they offered us that room we wanted but it didn't have AC. we agreed bc we didn't think it would be that bad but we were so wrong. the windows also didn't open in the room and the fire extinguisher was expired in case you're a safety person. Just lots of minor inconveniences as well and our stay wasn't enjoyable whatsoever. Rates weren't crazy cheap either I just expected more. read more

There's a couple basic things that you look for when you check into a hotel. A good night's sleep and a hot shower. We didn't get either one of those at Howard Johnson. The rooms at this HoJo are sort of strange, at least the ones on the first floor. There's a door to access the room from the hallway, and across from that there's another door to get into the room from the parking lot. Both the doors showed signs of wear and we didn't feel particularly secure in our room. Additionally, the air conditioner in our room was LOUD, so loud that you almost had to yell in order to talk to someone else in the room while it was running. The worst part of our stay was that there was no hot water when we tried to take showers. Between the shower, the doors, and the a/c this was probably one of the worst nights in a hotel I've ever had. Would not recommend. read more

Terrible! Walked in to an unmade bed and waited about 30 min for the front desk girl to come in make it. She put clean linens on and then put the wadded up blanket and comforter that were already in the room back on the bed. The chairs were all stained and no cover on the outlet. It had been a smoking room in the past and was just dank. Just not a clean place at all. Cleaning staff lightly knocked and opened the door at 9am. 2 hours before checkout. Staff were friendly. That's about the only good thing. Oh I didn't see bed bugs. That's good too. I would suggest this place is avoided entirely. If I could give this hotel no stars I would, however the one star is for the front desk lady only. Had I read the reviews here I would have never checked into this place, so lesson learned. A week prior we had an incredible stay at a Howard Johnson in North Platte, Nebraska so we opted to find another Howard Johnson for our next stay, big mistake. First, we booked a room over the phone with this hotel and once we arrived the prices advertised on the hotel where cheaper than we paid. Super annoying. Secondly, upon attempting to check in our reservation was completely incorrect and the front desk lady had to decipher what her coworker had done the night before with our last name being completely different we eventually found our reservation using only a zip code (I guess that's the only thing that was correct on the reservation). Third, then we checked into our room, got keys and headed around back. Our room was facing a dirty parking lot with a bar and community room next door. We had a lovely view of trash bins and junk cars that had been abandoned. We got our keys swiped them in the door and they didn't work. So, we went back and got new keys, this time they worked, however I wish they wouldn't have. Entering this room was an awful experience. It smelled of cigarettes in our non-smoking room. The bed was dirty. There was a stinky chair that was stained and old in the room. The bathroom was dirty and to top it off, the maids had made a swan out of a towel on the end of our bed. Now I know what you're thinking, "how nice! High class!" This was no ordinary swan, it was a black swan. It was a used bath towel that was covered in black dog hair. And when I say covered I mean... covered. The dog hair was wrapped up in the towel and clearly the people before us had a pet in the room because the bed was also covered in hair. Next, we called the front desk and the lady that checked us in was "so embarrassed", that first the keys didn't work and second the room was not clean. She moved us to another room and while we we waiting our neighbors also checking in couldn't get their keys to work either. We told the front desk lady and we assumed she helped them too. Hopefully. Then upon entering the new room it was no better. The desk lady told us that her head maid had just cleaned this room but that was not the truth. It was also dirty, the bathroom had hair stuck to the door and the bed smelled, again. Luckily there was no swan in this room but that was the only perk and I shouldn't even be counting that. We decided to stay because our reservation was not refundable and we had been driving all day. Obviously we will never return to this Howard Johnson, or any for that matter. The front desk lady was polite and helpful and obviously just trying to make the best out of this job but she deserves more! Side note, all we wanted to do was rest and watch the NHL game and we couldn't even do that. So frustrating. read more

Me and my sister were driving across country and were looking for a cheap, but safe place to stay along the way. We found this on Priceline... Great price/close to the highway. It was nice because we were able to park right outside our room. The motel was a little off the beaten path, but decent enough for a one night stay. A lot of room, comfy beds, great free breakfast in the morning starting at 5am. The locations was just somewhat sketchy for two young girls. Right when we got there a cop came into the lot with his lights on and was dealing with a few guests for quite some time. This was the only major faux pas of our stay. read more

Driving through South Dakota during the week of Sturgis (not on a motorcycle) - not recommended! Trying to find a lat minute hotel in the area, nearly impossible! We were lucky to nab a room at the Howard Johnson, and were pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness and the amenities provided. And they are dog friendly! I felt like jumping on the beds when we got in our room, just as I did as a kid! I'd highly recommend this hotel if you need a rest stop. Friendly staff and clean rooms/bathrooms. The breakfast room is very small, and it was very busy. I'd suggest that they have someone man the area on busy days, as there was no coffee available at 6:25am! AVOID AVOID AVOID! My non-smoking room wreaked of stale cig smoke. The bed sheets had stains on them and when i tried to have them changed I was told someone would be right over..they never shoed up. Upon calling again nobody answered. I deadbolted both doors (the one to the inside hall and of course the outside parking lot) and never felt really safe as the drunk patrons of the bar thats attached to the building tried to get into my room instead of their own. Our friends room had dirty towels, it smelled and the wall paper was coming off the walls. Our room was better but still and our other friends was better. The only redeeming thing about this hotel is cleanliness and saying that is kind of pushing it. Everything is cheap, like they advertise. I have stayed at worse but this is one I would avoid. I do like that there are doors to each room on the outside and inside of the hotel. The wifi is terrible I can't even use it it's so slow and goes in and out. The staff is friendly. Our room is on the east side. The sun rises at 5:15 am and wakes us up because there is only 1 light/thin curton(?) compared to most hotels which have 2. In my job I have to stay at many hotels and unfortunately this was the only hotel in town with enough room for our guys. The rooms were big and they did have fridge/microwave, but this hotel just seems like they tried to cut everything to save money. No pool. No fitness center. Sub par breakfast. Crappy to non existent wifi. Un comfortable beds. It's on the out skirts of town in the "ghetto". read more
