We recently renovated our front lawn starting with removing our trees, tearing out the existing sod and laying NEW SOD from Houston Grass. This company was AMAZING. Michael and Bo were SO HELPFUL and FRIENDLY and answered all my questions. We got the "normal" Raleigh St. Augustine since our yard will have plenty of sun. The Cobalt variety was intriguing BUT it wasn't going to be available until at least July so we just went with "old reliable" Raleigh. 2 pallets of grass was needed to complete our project. Each pallet was around $200, perhaps a little more than other companies but the quality is top notch. Our yard turned out FANTASTIC and we have been getting so many compliments from the neighbors. Contacted them about regrading my lawn. They came out and provided a written estimate that included "removal of 4 inches" of my lawn prior to re-sodding. On second day of work, I arrived to find them installing new grass without any significant removal of soil. I had to argue with the installer to get him to remove more soil on about 1/3 of the lawn nearest to my house (which was the part most in need of regrade). I shouldn't have paid, but it was such an unpleasant experience, I wanted it to end. The owner did call me to apologize. He said they don't do regrades! Bizarre, since my original message to them explicitly asked for a regrade, and their quote explicitly said removal of 4 inches of soil! read more

16 Jul 2021 **Updated review. The owner, Michael himself reached out after my review and was apologetic and was willing to work with us to replace out the dead sod. He assigned a different contractor (Omar) to come out and re-do the grass, who was very easy to work with. Thank you Houston grass for standing behind your work and making things right! You have won back our trust and business. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sod was provided by Houston Grass and installed by a guy named "Anderson" who came recommended by the company. This was done in February 2021. Grass was brown upon arrival - and Anderson informed us this was normal and it would 'come back' after watering. We should have sent it back on the spot. The prior grass was weedwacked off and new sod was thrown on without any topsoil. At the time we didn't know this was important (we thought we were hiring professions who would had advised or done this). A month later it was still brown. 2 months, 3 months later still brown and dead. Called company and Anderson several times- no help. It is such a shame you pay this kind of money and you are left worse than where you started. I advise you find a company that is reputable, professional and stands behind their work. Unfortunately we are going to have to spend thousands more just a few months later to replace it again. read more

The guys did a good job on the install. The quality of the sod was excellent. I arranged some extra work while they were here, and that was done exceedingly well. I had the work done 9 months ago. It still looks outstanding. Only one or two things I would have liked done.. Prep the ground after the old grass was removed and before the new grass was installed. Then after installation roll the grass for good contact with the soil. I am to blame for not being specific in my requests. The bottom line, the lawn is very good. read more

Update to prior review: My husband and I were having difficulties with communication from the contractor which was used to install our grass. However, after leaving reviews to the company, we were contacted by the company owner to make everything right. He was very polite, honest, and did what was necessary to make us satisfied with our installation. Overview of contractor issues: -Required multiple visits (2+) to complete the job, did not bring enough grass -Difficult to schedule & communicate with -Concerns on installation quality -Had to purchase grass and labor hundreds beyond the initial quote amount My concerns with the contractor were eliminated after speaking and working with the owner. He apologized for the communication issues that went along with the contractor. He explained they continue using the contractor because of his quality work. We were given the option to have him assist in completing the job, which he did. When he was out at our home, he reassured that the grass installation was quality work and would take (which was a major concern with my 1st review). He helped to fix issues with the contractors installing grass over holes without leveling. Grass was installed over weeds and construction debris, but the damage was done there. The professionalism to ensure we were satisfied with the work. 4 stars overall. 5 stars for the owner, 1 for contractor. Recommendations: -Have an employee provide quote of work that can be held responsible for the $$ provided. I provided square footage of the work area and had to purchase pallets beyond the quote. I understand mistakes happen, but it hurt in budgeting this experience. read more

The lady working was really nice and helpful in person although it was hard to get a hold of them through the phone. The price for a piece of grass was extremely cheap compared to buying a tray of grass at your local Home Depot or Lowes and even local plant/garden shops for 8x the price for a smaller piece. They have a few selections to choose from (about 4-6 varieties) if you're buying in pallets or bulk. I know they do deliveries as well, but the one thing I wish they did was to help load the pieces into your car as you have to do it yourself. I highly recommend this place. I can't wait to grow old so I can yell at kids to stay off my grass!! read more

I was between Houston Grass South and one other sod company earlier this year. The other company had more competitive pricing, but when I went to order, they were out of stock in the area due to rain. I called Houston Grass South and they initially connected me with one installer, but he never came out. I followed up and asked for them to put me in touch with someone else and they connected me with Omar. Omar was great - came out quickly, provided an estimate and was able to start around my schedule. He knocked out my entire back yard in a day with his crew and it looks great! He gave me good instructions for after-care and would be happy to call him when I'm ready to tackle my front yard next. read more

This is the best grass I've ever purchased, it is amazing!!!! I bought hundreds of dollars of grass from a certain garden center named after a city. That grass turned out to be weeds dressed up as grass, literally a complete waste of money. Houston Grass sells perfect grass, I could not be happier. If anyone needs high quality but very affordable grass sod, I recommend trying Houston Grass South off of Hwy 6 South, a couple miles North from Hwy 288. They sell by the piece, half-pallet, full pallet, or roll (depending on type). We purchased a half pallet, 85 pieces, of Raleigh St. Augustine to repair muddy spots in our yard. This is normally about $64, already much cheaper than a few other places I checked like Houston Garden Centers which requires a minimum purchase of at least a full pallet, plus a delivery charge. The service I experienced at Houston Grass Sod was stellar, without any extra fees other than sales tax. We called a day in advance to reserve the half pallet of grass sod. The next day we arrived, but unfortunately their delivery driver was running late. They offered us a 50% discount for the inconvenience and said we could either come back later the same evening or the next day. We opted to come back the next day, and they had it ready and waiting for us. If you have a pickup truck or trailer they will load it for you via a forklift, but we had just an SUV we so we opted to self-load. Per their recommendation to carefully stack and layer the grass, we were able to fit all 85 pieces into our vehicle. To keep hands cleaner while self-loading or unloading, be sure to use a pair of gloves; we opted for blue-colored nitrile rubber gloves because they are low-cost and disposable. Be sure to bring some gloves when loading and unloading. The grass sod pieces stayed intact and match very well with our existing grass. Beautiful Palmetto St Augustine grass. Delivered on time and at a reasonable price. I needed to purchase a half pallet more than I had delivered so I went to Arcola/Rosharon and they loaded it on my pickup with a forklift. The place is easy to locate and a quick on and off hwy 6. From website research to phone order to delivery and storefront purchase, everything was professional and seamless. But most of all, they are really helpful, and nice people. I am SO disappointed in this company. In October I had grass installed. It was beautiful, green and lush for three weeks. It then simply DIED. I noticed it was full of little brown moths. I called the company and the girl told me there was nothing they could do, but I (almost 80 yrs old) could treat if with insecticide in a spreader..Which I DID. In December. I talked to Michael who came to the house and promised to correct it. I called in the spring and was told I was on the list. I have emailed several times and also emailed Omar. Bottom line is I paid a thousand dollars, for a bad product and have nothing to show for it,. If you are interested in Sod I found good recommendations on "Nextdoor.com". And I am using one that I like. I also see negative remarks on Houston grass on this site. Also, Facebook is a good place to get recommendations. What a shame this company didn't follow thru. There R now people Who tell me they won't buy their grass there. read more
