This is the second time here. I decided to give them another chance. Went and asked a question of the guy at the check out. His answer, I'm only a cashier and there are workers out there. He pointed to the plants. How is it a place called "Houston Garden Center" has no one there that's has a clue as to their merchandise? I was new hire here. Although the POS cashier system is tricky to learn. The rules are strict but I had the treated the coworker. The cashier that trained me was very high quality. This is great job for in between jobs. The benefits are not that great but I really appreciated learning things and being in the flowers was so relaxing. I want to shop here now lol read more

But two bags of top shelf garden soil today that a staff recommended for tomatoes and vegetables. Just opened the bag and it is a pile of clay and mud. There is no soil in there. No one answers phone And their policy is all sales are final. I will be disputing the charge. read more

First of all their selection of tomato plants was extremely limited. Next, they sold us mulch that they didn't have and knew they didn't have. I won't be coming back. Update: when we asked for a refund of merchandise they sold us but didn't have, we were told there were no refunds or exchanges. We had to speak to a manager to get it handled. read more

I've tried many times to do business with this store. Finding someone that knows anything or speaks English is like trying to find a diamond in a community pool. I suspect that Houston Garden Center needs a hardy investigation by the dept of labor. I do not understand how you can consistently hire people that speak no English and they be legal. There is a ditzy blond at the check out counter and she does speak English but knows absolutely nothing about plants nor does she seem inspired to learn. The employees that work at this location are running a theft ring. The cashier was eyeing us up as we shopped. After making our purchase the cashier motioned to a coworker and commented in Spanish that we were money people. We proceeded home and an hour later the solid bed top on the truck I used to pick up the plants was stolen right in my driveway at 2 in the afternoon on a Saturday. It was a bold act by at least 2 people. I am positive it was the garden center employees as I have had no issues for over a year in this neighborhood concerning my truck. I totally agree with Maxine!! My husband and I went there the other day. We spent six hundred dollars on trees and plants. No one spoke any English! The one guy that did, he was swamped with questions from customers. I got home and started to plant what be bought and some of the plants leaves fell completely off and when I picked the leaves up there was bugs on them! I love Lowes plants, I went there because of my husband. I did not like the whole experience!! The place is a big mud hole!! I will never go there again, that's for sure. My first time coming here. I asked almost every employee what is the best for indoor plants, no one knew. I asked the cashier & she wasn't sure. She said the employees just get hired to sell, they don't need to know about plants. You need to go to college & get a degree to know about plants. & she told me to google it. Pretty disappointing. My family has never had a problem with this place until this year. We bought a Christmas tree and turns out, it was infested with aphids and they have ruined the tree. They are all around the room we placed it in and they won't give us back our money. read more

Yes, you do have to do your research before going to Houston Garden but the prices make it so much worth it. If you're new at gardening or wanting to diy landscape/ front yard, this is the place to go because any other garden center will sell you the same plants for double the amount they'd cost you here. read more

Worst customer service ever! We were dealing with the manager and still seemed to get attitude. Trying to ask simple questions seemed to bother the manager. They have a huge selection but unless you are pro and know about every single flower or plant don't expect to get any help. The staff does not speak English and even though I do speak Spanish they don't know anything. They all directed me to the manager. Again who is not helpful and had an attitude. I went in search of mosquito repellent plants. the girl who was sitting down got up to point to an area in the back. After looking for about 15 minutes, i almost left but I went back and asked for a few plants by name. they had marigolds and she pointed again to a corner in the back. After another 10 minutes a man working pointed them out. As I was preparing to check out I asked about lavender plants and she said they did not have any. I asked the best way to determine if another location had some. she said company policy is they don't answer the phone because they want you to come in and look around. I guess that is why she pointed. That strategy make work for most but I wanted something specific and not just pretty flowers. so, if you want pretty flowers this is the store for you but is you need help with mosquito repellent plants you will get no help just finger pointing because they think that the best type of customer service. She recommended I go to Lowe's if I wanted lavender plants.... WOW!! read more

Hmm...I'm somewhat surprised that no one as of yet has written a review on Yelp about this place. But, I don't mind being the first, because people need to know what they're getting themselves into if they shop here. I kid you not--one person speaks English here. One. But ya know what? That's not my biggest gripe. I'm more upset at the fact that when you do ask for help (from the employees who don't speak English), they systemically put their heads down and reply, "no." Not, "Sorry, I don't speak English," or "Pardon, No Habla Ingles." Just a "no" and a slide attempt to get away from dealing with the conversation. No one even tries to be helpful. Seriously! No one goes to get the manager to see if he can help. No one goes home and practices their English for future situations that might come up. These folks might as well put up a big 'ol middle finger for anyone non-Mexican who might happen to patron the store. Returns, exchanges, and even valid coupons aren't honored (Inbox me if you wanna know that story). It's just an unreal place... Their plants and flowers are gorgeous. But in my opinion, I'd buy some seeds from HEB and grow some myself before I ever step foot back into the Houston Garden Center in Humble (FM 1960). read more

Absolutely no customer service. Arrived at the Humble location with a plan for 20 to 23 new plants, but I had some questions about plants I selected. No one could answer any questions, many of the signs had all boxes checked like plant good for Full Sun, Partial Shade and Shade - it made no sense. I loaded the plants I felt good about on to 3 carts along with soil and fertilizer but couldn't get anyone to help me get them to the cash register. I finally managed to push all 3 carts up front. I have an hour + drive and it was windy so I asked if they had anything to help protect the plants during the drive, like plastic that was wrapped around the pallets of dirt. No they weren't willing to help with that either so I decided to leave it and drive to the Conroe location to see if the customer service was any better. I asked the cashier for assistance, he pointed me to a man at the back of the store. I walked down to him, showed him my plan and wanted to start selecting plants. He said, " I am way too busy to help you, I have a lot of work to do." After seeing all the commercials, I was shocked at the lack of professionalism and service with Houston Garden Centers. I left with over $250 on the carts and that wasn't even everything I needed. read more

Silly me! Thought I would go to a garden center and get to talk to people who knew things about plants and flowers! They literally said they didn't have anyone to help us that knew about the plants and flowers. We walked around trying to figure it out on our own but it was impossible to tell which sign went with which plant. We finally decided that we refused to give our money to a place with such horrible service and as we were leaving the staff was sitting on the soil bags playing on their phones. No reason to try to call this location, no one will answer. No stock on St. Augustine grass for past 3 days even though they will tell you a truck load is on its way later in the day. Absolutely the worst customer service! I have spent over $1,000 there this season alone. I accidentally picked up a mixed flat of jasmine instead of ivy and I went back three hours later and tried to resolve the situation. They would not even stand up. They said "read the receipt" - and the policy is no refunds or exchanges. The situation was actually a result of the stock being disorganized and they refused to do anything so I called the corporate office and I was as polite as I could be and Jennifer started screaming at me. While I never raised my voice I asked for the owner and she said it was the owners policy and refused to connect me. It was a small purchase $23 - they have lost a customer and I hope the owner realizes how bad this store is! They will never leave the shaded area to show you where something is and no one will help you load your car. Go to Houston Plant and Garden World - it is worth the drive. Home Depot has a warranty on plants! read more

Before you go to this garden center, you need to know exactly what you want, have researched your own varieties and be willing to hunt to find it on your own. They do have beautiful plants at great prices but if you need to ask anyone a question, you'll find the staff is beyond clueless. Just Google your question on your phone right there - it's much faster than trying to find one of their nonexistent staff members. If you want to go somewhere that has knowledgeable people, you'll need to go to a nursery in Kingwood. This is more like a discount store located in a mud pit. Wear shoes that can get wet/muddy because there is usually standing water in the herb/veggie/flower section. That being said, they have a good selection of herbs for cheap early in the season (March) but you 100% need to have done your research and know what you are doing because the staff is there to ring up your purchases and tell you "no refunds". The no exchanges/no refunds thing is serious. They don't even train staff on how to do an exchange. If you aren't sure or you want to get a plant home to see how it looks before you make a final decision to keep it, this is NOT the store for you. Also, be careful with their fruit trees and DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU GO! Their fruit trees may not be the best variety for our area. Often they are intended for zone 7. Had a nectarine and peach tree die after pampering them only to be told the varieties I had were for zones 5-7. My friend who bought a Texas A&M variety elsewhere had massive, sweet, juicy peaches on an 8 foot tree by year 4 while I was digging out my dead twig. I did research before buying my blackberries and found the correct native variety I wanted mingled in next to zone 6 varieties and if I didn't know the actual variety name I needed for Houston, I would have had more dead plants. Seriously, do your research before you go because they are very happy to sell you whatever came off the truck whether it grows here or not. read more
