No other handyman bothered to respond except Bernie as the repair had to be done from under the house via the crawlspace. Bernie came and gave a detailed estimate and also went under the house into the crawlspace and took pictures and measurements. We scheduled the job and Bernie came exactly on time and made the repair with no complaining about the fact that working in a crawlspace is pretty hard to do and makes the job much more difficult. As a result of this we will now begin to schedule more work with Bernie for flooring as well as painting. He gave my husband and me the gift of the installation of a custom fold-down cutting board where a rickety fold-down ironing board used to be. This, of course, was totally his idea because he's creative like that. The cutting board is beautiful, solid, and functional, adding 30% more surface area to our kitchen. It's far superior to the ironing board that was there previously. He used top notch parts, sourced from specialty cabinet makers, to construct it. Ian was also timely and cleaned up after himself. I would feel confident hiring Ian for bigger projects, as I have seen him helping his former employer (my Dad) build bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and more. He didn't have a sample we specifically requested be brought to the appointment. That was the first strike. After I received the quote, I emailed twice asking for additional quotes as we chose a different carpet. No response for 3 days. That is not acceptable. They lost our business. How could we trust the rest of the process after the bad start? We did decide on Mohawk products for both carpet and laminate flooring so they had the opportunity to install flooring for most of our house. We went with another family owned business.
