Had my first tattoo EVER done last night at Hotrod Tattoo. What a fantastic experience from first interaction with the front office team to the actual tatting. I wanted something very simple as a daily reminder. (See photo.) I was thankful that nothing seemed too small for them to tackle. I was a bit intimidated after seeing the beautiful art coming from here and all I wanted was simple text. But wow! Great service from the customer service to interaction with Jesse Kube, who did my tattoo. The room was pristine, comfortable and private! I had pictured a room full of artists work together on a bunch of clients at once. In addition, Hotrod Tattoo is immaculate and first class. Jesse was so gentle and calm, that I felt calm too. My tat was done in no time and Jesse said I did great. I felt like I'd earned a GOLD STAR! Jesse carefully explained the aftercare instructions and walked me out and handed me the product I should use. I appreciated that very much. He said he'd see me for my "next" tattoo. I was a little reluctant to leave this review, but after I shared my experience with several friends and colleagues, they thought that I should share it with a wider audience. I always do my best to be fair with my reviews. First, let me say that this place is very clean and the staff behind the counter were very professional and friendly. I was greeted immediately each and every time I entered the shop. This is different than some shops where I've walked in and was basically ignored. I'm not new to tattoos as I have several from various artists and shops. My intent was to get a Nordic/Celtic themed sleeve. After reviewing the artist, I selected Brian. It was my understanding that he is very skilled with dot work and the style of tattoo I was wanting. I provided Brian with many samples and ideas of what I wanted to be done. He was confident that it was something that he can do. My biggest concern was with scheduling, as I recently started a new job with non-9 to 5 hours and it didn't mesh well with Brian's schedule. He was flexible and made arrangements to get my first 8-hour session in. The first session went well. Brian agreed to come in after my shift at work ended so we could get started. It wasn't until later the next day that I noticed several issues with the work that was done. Particularly, there were several areas with blown out lines, inconsistent line work, and gaps in the line work. Several people noticed these issues before I mentioned it. My next 8-hour session was scheduled a month later and I hoped that some of these issues would be corrected. My next session was scheduled for a Saturday. Brian doesn't normally work weekends, but he said he'd take Friday off and do the work Saturday afternoon when they opened. Around 12:15 p.m., Brian comes to the waiting area to retrieve me. We went back to his room and I mentioned the issues that I could see. I was dismissed with, "it just needs to heal a little bit more." I was a little annoyed by it, but I shrugged it off and decided to let him get to work. He spent 45 minutes doing some rough sketches on my arm and offered me a couple options. Once that was out of the way, he began tattooing. About an hour into the session, he said that he was tired and said that he probably won't be able to do a full day. I was annoyed by this considering I had planned on a full 8-hour session. Do I make a fuss and insist that a tired artist tattoo me and possibly make more mistakes? I don't know anyone who would want an upset and half-awake artist working on them. At that point, I was agreeable and decided that I wasn't going to return to that shop. I ended up getting 2 hours worth of work done. He did correct some of the issues from the first session, but not all. I will now be looking for another shop/artist to complete this work. read more

My husband and I wanted to get our wedding date in Roman numerals. We saw that Jesse does really good line work so we wanted to book the appointment with him. When you first walk in the shop is very nicely decorated. Since we were doing lettering there were so many fonts to look through to finally get one that we wanted. The day of our appointment Jesse was really quick at doing both of our tattoos. The reason they're not getting a full 5 star even though we both really liked our tattoos is because I think they were a bit over priced. Neither one of our tattoos took an hour to do. Mine was probably 30 minutes and my husband's took about 45 minutes. And it would've been nice if he was a bit more sociable, but also understandable that he wanted to focus on the work being done. read more

I got a tattoo the other day at Hotrod Tattoo by Mario Lowman. I got an estimate through email and the receptionists were very nice and helpful. I included a picture of what I wanted but told them I wanted Mario to redraw it and add his artistic expression. I was so excited to have Mario do my tattoo that I didn't mind waiting over a month and a half for an appointment. My appointment was scheduled for 12pm but I ended up waiting almost an hour to get started. When I met Mario he was very standoffish and quiet.. During the entirety of the appointment he continued to be very closed off which made the whole appointment awkward and I was fairly uncomfortable. Me and my fiancé both mentioned getting more tattoos from him in the near future but he didn't seem interested at all. Overall I felt like he had a problem with us and tattooing me was an inconvenience. Even though he did a great tattoo, I will not be going back to him for more tattoos. Update... After taking perfect care of my tattoo and it healing completely, I notice it is scarred in multiple places. (In almost all of the bats and inside the dress) I will not be returning to this shop and will not recommend it to any of my friends. read more

Super great experience. Very professional when I came in to check it out. Front office staff was able to tell me the process and were able to consult (based on pictures) and provide an estimate via email. We set the appointment and paid a deposit (also via the phone) to work with Mario, based on his portfolio. The shop very clean, and Mario was the consummate professional, answering all my husband and I's stupid questions while maintaining a clean and sanitary environment. I have very dark skin (African American) and his black work was amazing and works well with an already existing tattoo - very detailed and clean. Their collaboration and support of each other was apparent and each artist seems to have a passion and a drive to continually develop their skills. They provide a digital portfolio in the lobby displaying work by each artist. I chose Brian Hall to do my tattoo because I really like the aesthetic quality and detail of his style. I gave him an idea and he made it into a true work of art better than anything I could have imagined. The artists and staff at Hotrod Tatttoo exemplify what a tattoo studio should be. The work it top-notch. You get what you pay for and this place is worth every penny. The environment is sanitary and the equipment is well-maintained. The aftercare products are also high quality. I've used Aquaphor for tattoos in the past but the Tattoo Goo from Hotrod healed my tattoo so much better and it's made with natural ingredients, using soothing oils to heal your tattoo and minimize ink spreading and fading. The staff is very friendly and not intimidating at all. For those first timers- feel free to be anxious, ask stupid questions, it's all part of the experience and at Hotrod Tattoo they get that! Really love the location and front desk staff. There was approximately a 6 month wait for Jesse, which is the norm for all quality artists. I am doing a half sleeve, which is going to cost me about $2k, which I feel is worth it. Once you set your appointment, you must put down 1/2 of the $$ in a deposit. But, I have stopped in a few times to pay cash toward my art, which I like doing, since I have so much time. I am really excited about my tattoo!!!! Based on the photos, there are actually a few artists I could have chosen, but I am thrilled Jesse accepted me. Note: Protect the skin you want tattooed...no cuts, burns, or sunburns. I was very impressed with Shay Milford's work on this tattoo. It had been 15 years since I got a tattoo and this one was a coverup. I'm not particularly proud of the original so I won't post it here, but Shay met with me for a consultation and really tried to get a good idea of what I wanted. I recently had to cancel an appointment with Matt at Hot Rod Tattoo which was a 4 day notice. I was told that they needed a week notice or they would keep my deposit. I told them if they were to take my deposit I would go somewhere else. We made another appointment and then tonight the owner and artist sent me this. I read over your email response with the Hotrod Staff and you stated you would go somewhere else if we didn't apply your deposit to another appointment.  I asked Cassie to go ahead and transfer your deposit to a new date out of respect to you but I wanted her to reiterate our policy. I understand things come up, but we can't always get times filled on short notice.  There has been a couple times you have rescheduled without the proper notice so with all due respect I am going to refund your deposit and cancel you next appointment, you will see a refund in the next couple days.  Sincerely, Matt Mooneyham I only changed appointment once and I run a business just like you and things get canceled all of the time. You are lucky that you are in a line if work that allows you to demand a deposit and then use it as leverage. You are booked out over 30 days so you should have no reason to not be able to fill that spot.  Unfortunately I  was thinking the same thing, canceling my appointment.  The customer is your priority not an artist who leaves people sitting way past their appointment time and now tell me that you have the right to take my deposit. My time is money as well, maybe it should work both ways? Originally I had a different artist his name is Brian. He left me waiting on three different occasion for 20 to 40 minutes never coming out to the waiting area to say anything. After the 3rd time I complained about wait time and charges since I had to wait. Matt the owner took over for Brian but with an attitude as as had an attitude as well, but we moved on. Excellent! I wanted a tattoo of a ram on my right upper arm as a birthday present for myself. I set up an appointment with Brian and I have good things to say about him and the shop. The staff were very professional and very pleasant to communicate with in setting up my appointment and design pre consultation. My husband and I got our tattoos from Kris yesterday, after being referred to this shop by a close friend. From the moment we say down in his chair to discuss our concepts, Kris was awesome.
