This was a last minute stop. Dakari Soul Food in Edgewood was closed and it was nearly 1pm (I like the fish sandwich which you can get several ways; cooked in front of you). I never planned on going here because most Caribbean food sauce in America is too salty. Well this place was empty. There was no one at the counter to take orders. The guy appeared and seemed shocked when I ordered. He then fired the stove. I stepped out for maybe 10 minutes. I came back in and he left the counter to collect my food. I already seen one person walk in and leave quickly with food before I came back in. He looked upset when I did not tip. I have consistently had bad luck with local Caribbean spots so for a lunch deal under 13 dollars; I will see first if it looks edible, smells fresh, and tastes fit to eat before I tip in the future. As soon as I opened the container (very heavy) the sauce looked too silky and dark to be a stew. It looks like motor oil. The temperature was hot. There was no taste at all to the sauce. The rice or veggies gave an old smell. I believe it was the rice because it was lumpy when you get through past the black sauce. There were some lettuce cut strips that were translucent. The chicken was tender and did not taste old/reheated a few times. I am so disappointed. I wish I would have read the reviews. Chicken was dry and the ox tail was a joke , 3 small pieces of bone with no meat on them , guy acted like I was a nuisance when I came in not a customer. This place is in a small strip of various stores (barber, cleaners, etc) and you'd miss it if you weren't looking for it. It's called the Village Shopping Center, and it's across the street from a car repair shop and a Pizza Hut. Not a lot of space inside, so dining in isn't a real option unless you're solo or just with a friend. I ordered the signature dish of any Jamaican place - jerk chicken. A large platter is 12.95 in mid 2022, and the platter was very filling. The seasoning and spice were on point and authentic. The chicken was well-cooked and tender. With the rice and cabbage, and lunch option I will happily do again. But I'm gonna have to try some other things here. I definitely want to try the curry chicken and oxtail. There were 3 others waiting for their orders when I put mine in. I maybe waited 10-15 minutes, which isn't terrible. If you have a larger order or in a hurry, calling in probably helps. read more

I have always enjoyed eating here. Especially after a long day of kayaking. I love coming in and getting the curry goat as my recovery meal. They make the best Curry goat around. The food was good but unfortunately didn't taste "authentic". I ordered jerk chicken and it wasn't spicy and had a baked bbq taste to it as opposed to a jerk taste. It was good none the less but def left me a little unsatisfied. Husband ordered curry chicken but they only had one piece. They added some stew chicken in place of a full curry order. This spot is solid, I can't speak for the entirety of the menu but Curry Goat is very good. I'm from Ny the rice and peas here are a little dry but just put curry sauce on top and your golden. The plate portion vs price is the best around. Rarely is the protein the best part for me so I was pleasantly surprised at how tender and flavorful the goat is. read more

This was my first time trying Jamaican food and it was delicious. I had jerk chicken, oxtail (with rice and beans as a side for both orders), plantains, and a beef patty. The beef patty was definitely filling in my stomach, as well as delicious. The plantains tasted good. If you enjoy eating bananas you'll most likely enjoy eating plantains. The oxtail was very good and the jerk chicken had a flavorful spicy taste (It wasn't too spicy it was light). When I put the oxtail sauce in the rice and beans, it made the rice and beans taste a little sweet. I have a sweet tooth so I was tearing up that rice/bean and oxtail. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone I know who is a novice to Jamaican food like I was. Definitely plan on eating here again. read more

I'm happy there's a Jamaican restaurant in this area but authentic Jamaican flavors was not what I tasted I ordered brown stew chicken. I was not pleased the flavor was not what I grew up on, I know everyone has their own way of cooking and each part of town cooks different, but I usually don't have this much of a taste difference at Caribbean restaurants. Trying to find good Jamaican food in the area and we were really happy overall. Friendly service, dining/waiting area is immaculate. We had beef patties, coco bread, jerk chicken sandwich, curried goat, side of rice and beans. This is definitely NOT Jamaican cuisine. First thing is they had no oxtails or curry chicken as the menu stated. I had brown stew chicken which was just bbq chicken nothing stew about it. The rice &' beans was so bland just taste like white rice. If your looking for some real Caribbean spice food this is not the location.
