This place is GREAT! Stayed here for an extended time (10+ days), so I really got to know the hotel and the surrounding area.
The best part of the location: close to everything (public transportation, shopping, touristy-sites, not-so-touristy sites) BUT also relatively insulated from street noise. We were literally steps from a major thoroughfare (Drottningatan) and very close to a subway line (Rådmansgatan station), plus walking distance to the Central Station and T-Centralen
(note -those two are not the same station!). However, street noise was only noticeable during 'day time hours' (about 7 am to 8 or 9 pm), and that's important because this hotel has no air conditioning or central ventilation - and the windows do need to be open for air circulation.
The rooms are fine. I had a double bed, with a window and 'door' that both opened. I didn't have a balcony-rather, it was fence/bar across the bottom of the larger window. No screens in the windows. The best part of the rooms were the sound insulation: the doors and walls seem to be well-sound proofed. I heard minimal noise from the hall outside my room, and minimal noise from the rooms on either side of mine.
The breakfast buffet is good - and I never got tired of it, even after 10+ days. Hot items included eggs, bacon, sausages. There was also pickled herring as a cold item, in addition to a few vegetables (cucumbers, tomatoes), meats and cheeses, plenty of breads (yeast and crackbread), milk, coffee, tea, and juices. There were also dry cereals, fruit salad, whole fruit, yogurt, and small selection of sweets (cookie and quick bread of the day). The buffet is located on the 6th floor of the hotel, and the view is INCREDIBLE. The hotel is located in a part of the city without too many highrises, so the 6th floor actually gets you roof top views. The main dining area has 180 degree views of the surrounding area (lots of big windows on two of the four walls of the room). The dining area was flooded with beautiful natural light every day (even when it was drizzly).
The lobby area is nice and neat, with the reception area and a bar on one side. The staff are friendly and helpful. When I went to the front desk, and told them I forgot to bring an adaptor/transformer, they lent me one for the duration (no charge, but there was a deposit that would have turned into a charge if I didn't return it).
There is a mini-refrigerator in the room, which makes it very handy for keeping food for meals and snacks, if you don't want to eat all your meals at a restaurant.
Now...some of the downsides.
-Ventilation is not great. The bathroom especially got very stuffy.
-The shower door is a bit odd. It swings in or out, depending on whether or not you are taking a shower, but did not stay put. read more
