I loved this place. Spent winter here a couple of years ago while running around Rome doing research. The place got a high recommendation on Trip Advisor and the prices (at least for winter) were extremely reasonable for Rome. Had a double for a week or so and then was on my own and switched to a single. (No, I wasn't dumped...sheesh...you people.) The double was incredibly spacious; sparsely furnished but huge. The single was a crackerbox of a room...I mean supra-tiny...but wonderful. I loved it. It was right below the penthouse and looked out at the Opera across the street and I was able to hear the musicians practicing everyday while watching the sun set across the rooftops of Rome. Sweet!
The morning breakfast is limited, but the cappuccinos were delicious, particularly in the cold weather, and the wait staff uber-friendly.
Location wise, it is hard to beat. No, it's not located in the older section of Rome BUT it is well within walking distance of the train station. DON'T get a taxi at the train station to get to the hotel. It is literally less than a ten minute walk...closer to five. If you take a taxi, they'll drive you around for a while and charge you a fortune.
It is also just a step away from the Piazza della Repubblica with all sorts of bus connections (both tourist and regular routes). You need go nowhere else. There is also a handy metro stop located right there, right next to McDonalds. Yeah, McDonalds...sadly enough. And the magnificent basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore is just a couple of blocks away, which has a nice open air market several days of the week. You can buy some cheese and salami here.
Restaurants line the street, but most of them I wasn't too fond of...except right next door is a Chinese place where you can get a filling meal for almost nothing, something I did on several occasions to save money. Also, just across and a bit up the street is a market where you can shop for groceries.
Price, location, pleasant staff. Hard to beat. read more
