Hotel Sint Nicolaas earns 5 stars for being convient, comfortable, free breakfast, free wifi, and super helpful -- it is not a Ritz Carlton or Renaissance, but it has so much to offer. It is close to Amsterdam Centraal -- a 5-10min walk depending on how much luggage you may have. It is an easy walk to Dam Square, the Anne Frank House, and many other things you want to see in Amsterdam.
I stayed in a room with a full sized bed. It was a really cool room on the top floor, and the walls were angled with the angle of the roof -- it was fun. The bathroom was small, but functional. I wouldn't want to stay in that room with more than 1 person, but it was perfect for me. There is a flat screen TV with several English (and German) channels, and what's nice about the Netherlands, is they put subtitles on most shows.
The breakfast area was a bit dark, but it was small. The breakfast was excellent -- bread, yogurt, cheese, meats -- some of my favorite things about breakfast in Europe. One day they had Poffertjes!
Check in is at 14:00. I arrived about 10:00, and I was able to put my luggage into their locked storage area until I came back later in the day after exploring. When you book on their website, there is an option to buy a canal tour. The tour was a good overview of the city, so I recommend buying the tickets -- they're at a discounted price when you book your reservation.
On future trips to Amsterdam, I would love to stay at Hotel Sint Nicolaas again! read more
