I was in Big Spring for a business trip. This hotel came highly recommended by my coworkers and business partners. Boy am I glad I stayed here. This renovated historic hotel is a gem. It is absolutely beautiful. They have a restaurant and bar inside the hotel, a beautiful pool with a jacuzzi , a gym and a spa. I was in room 902. The view is of downtown which appeared to be abandoned and old. Next time I will request a pool view if they have it. I work for a government insurance company so I was able to call and get a Government rate. The government rate is not available on their website. You do have to call. I called and booked with Zoe and her customer service was second to none. She was so pleasant and very informative. She answered all my questions. I arrived on Sunday just before midnight. They do lock their doors at midnight so if you don't have a room key you will need to call to be let in. I like that they have lots of cameras and they lock the doors to keep people safe. They have free street parking and a parking lot across the street that is free. The parking lot has a lot of pot holes. Pay close attention to the street you exit on because the street on the main road is a one way street and the other road is a two way street. That's the fun part about being downtown, you get to guess if this is a one way street when signs are not visible. The Greyhound bus station is not to far from the hotel. I noticed that while driving around at night. I felt like I had the hotel to myself most of the time. Only after work hours did it seem to have more people and most of them were heading to the bar. I am looking forward to my next time in Big Spring. I will stay here again and next time I am going to the spa. I highly recommend this hotel.

I don't care if you have to drive across country to visit this 5 star luxury hotel in an abandoned, original ghost town. Do it. You'll have the time of your life. Original cowboy style ghost town still existing with a few small businesses? Check. The hotel will blow you away. Similar to the old Ritz Carlton in Pasadena, CA. Stunning. Love the pool, hot tub area. Perfect wooden cozy, high ceiling bar, great restaurant on site. What more can I say? Bedding and pillows were perfect. Hotel rooms so quiet. Hotel staff, perfect. Cannot even think of one slight downside and I'm very critical and picky about hotels and restaurants. Downside? Weather was cold so we couldn't get to the pool without freezing. lol Note: don't even think about wanting to get into the mind blowing antique stores a block away. Owners don't care enough to open them. EVER. Oh! I also heard there's a spa at this relaxing hotel but didn't get to try it out. Stay here if you love luxury hotel getaways and adventure! You'll thank me later.

This hotel is glorious. Watched the sunset from our room, wearing the Settles robes with a beer. It's a truly lovely place and an amazing deal.

    So fancy, it hurts!

We were driving into Big Spring after having spent the better part of the Sunday at Carlsbad Caverns. My wife and I were both weary of having spent the past eleven days on our road-trip when unexpectedly rose on the horizon, this hotel. What the hell was this doing stuck way out here in the desert?! I had no idea, but I aimed to find out. Besides, the wife wanted to stay here as soon as she laid her eyes upon this place. I pulled up beside the hotel and we went in. Not knowing what to expect when I walked in, I must say I was taken back by how immaculate everything inside this place was! I took a quick look around and I had to check myself because I felt I had stepped into some sort of time warp back to the 1930s or something. Everything inside the lobby floor of this place looks amazing! With my AAA discount, they would let me a room on the 13th floor for $179. Awesome. I must say I was surprised at that Hotel Settles includes an official "13th floor" because most hotels seem to skip that number. For some superstitious reason, a lot of building elevators list the 12th floor, omit 13, and go directly to the 14th floor. Essentially, they pretend there's not a 13th floor (when in reality, their 14th floor is the 13th floor). There's probably a story as to why the 13th floor is included here at Hotel Settles. I'm guessing this Settles fellow wasn't at all superstitious, and thumbed his nose at the notion not to include it. Also, there's an actual 14th floor here as well - the top floor. I was told by another guest who had been staying at the hotel for the past month that the 14th floor is the penthouse, and that they charge $2500 for the weekend for it. Yikes! Too expensive for my blood, but I'm sure that's nothing for some oil or wind turbine baron looking to party out here some weekend. Our room on the 13th floor wasn't so much a room as it was a suite, way more than ample space for two people. It was on the southeast corner of the building, and the view from our room was amazing. You can see for miles and miles! The bed was super comfortable, but for some strange reason, there wasn't a fitted sheet on our bed, only another regular sheet which did not stay put. My only complaint about this place, really. The shower was huge! All in all, the room was downright super. We could see the pool from our room, so we got ready and went downstairs to check it out. The pool area is really, really cool, and the place we choose to hang out at for the rest of the evening. We were able to order drinks and food from the hotel's Pharmacy Bar up until they closed at 9:00, and they even delivered it to us outside to our table beside the pool. The door to the pool area locks from the inside out at 10:00 pm automatically (when the pool officially closes), but as long as someone is already inside the pool area before 10:00 pm that person is able to come and push the door open from the pool side to let you in. We hung out in the pool area until around 11:30 pm and no hotel employee ever appeared to kick us out.

The chic rustic look always compliments the decorations you add for your event. As a photographer, the venue has a great number of spots to shoot, i.e. the bar in the "hardware store," the outdoor courtyard has a fountain, a long hallway, & rustic doors, an upstairs room that is furnished with some vintage looking chairs. I will say that I know the venue is pricey but the place is huge (approx 11,000 square feet! including the hardware store, party room & outdoor courtyard.) I also know that the tables and chairs are available for rent if you do not have your own. I don't know specifics of the contract they have for renting the venue, but the supply of paper towels and toilet paper in the restrooms NEVER meets the demands. It would seem like a good idea to use one of the industrial paper towel/toilet paper dispensers or even an air hand dryer found at most public restrooms. I walked out of the restroom with wet hands every time due to no paper towels. On the subject of the restrooms, the trash cans ALWAYS overflow with waste due to the fact that they are so tiny. Now on to the HVAC system, the AC in the hardware store isn't up to par or had some issues because it was sweltering hot! Almost everyone hung out in the party room & outside in the courtyard because of the heat. They need to have the HVAC system serviced or upgraded to properly cool a venue of that size. All in all, this is a nice place to have your wedding, reception, family reunion, etc. Just make sure to bring extra paper goods and some fans.

We wanted to stay in unique places and I feel so incredibly lucky that I saw this place!! The entire experience started off so nicely when Kim (one of the owners) called us the day we were arriving to ask about our arrival time so her or her husband Mark could be there to welcome us, and she also offered to make us an early continental breakfast since we were leaving before 8am the next day. It was so kind, but we declined because we were good to grab food on the road so we could get home. But that level of customer service and genuine kindness was a perfect example of our stay! Mark met us and gave us a tour of the BEAUTIFUL house, told us about the history, showed us historical photos they got from the granddaughter of the man who first built it. He offered us wine and coffee and the best banana bread I've ever had (seriously I need to email them for the recipe), and he even let us meet his puppy which made my daughter so happy! The house itself is incredible. Mark and Kim did an impossible task renovating it from abandoned nightmare to a breathtaking home that feels luxurious and so special. It really would be perfect for a small family celebration or wedding! Our favorite parts were the atrium in the center of the house that still had the 100+ year old birds of paradise plants that the original owner brought there from Guatemala, and the fact that their beautiful Christmas decorations were still up. We were extra lucky to be the only people staying there, so we really had the run of the house and got to hang out in their gorgeous living room to enjoy the Christmas decor and watch a movie together on our tablet. Everything was clean, the beds were so comfy, the amenities were awesome, the owners are SO SWEET, and Mulberry Manor is one of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed. A week before we finally agreed lets Celebrate at a Winery in the area with our Sunday School Class we asked them where would be a good Winery to check out - and you all are invited. Various places were suggested. We heard the name of one place in particular - Christoval Vineyards. My Wife and I stated that we would announce the location soon and it will be scheduled for next Sunday. That same day we went out to Christoval Vineyards and discovered why friends in our Class suggested this place. It is Absolutely Beautiful everywhere you look. We drove up to the Tasting Room and spoke with the Owner, Wendi Neff and the Assistant Manager, Isabel. We talked about what we wanted to do. Wendi explained that they are also open to the Public but can provide an area for our get together Celebration. We sampled some of their Award Winning Wine and chose Five types and Meat & Cheese Platters along with Sodas, Coffee & Water. They said that we could bring Desserts. While we were there we also joined their Wine Club and became Members. During our discussion with Wendi some of our Sunday School classmates were at the Winery enjoying Breakfast and Wine. We joined them and also had Breakfast; a Cheese Omelet stuffed with various items of my choice - it was loaded, and prepared by their Chef in the Covered Patio area. I shared my Omelet with my Wife and she loved it as much as I did - and we tried another glass of Wine, Sparkling Almond, which we added to our list for our Celebration. When we arrived back to the house, I prepared a flyer via email to announce our "150th Month-i-versary" Celebration at Christoval Vineyards that takes place the next Sunday from 1:30 to 3:30pm (or later). The Wines we chose were Angelo Red, Rendezvous, Angelo Blush, Petite Sirah, Angelo White & Sparkling Almond (3-Red & 3-White). We also chose an 'Epicurean Meat & Cheese Platter'; a generous assortment of handpicked, Specialty & Cured Meats. Served with Artisan Crackers, Olives, Fresh Grapes and an assortment of other Seasonal Items. I also printed off some copies of 'How Nancy and I Met' and planned to hand them out to everyone who attends. This is actually the First of our many Stories. We had an overwhelming response to our invite. I contacted Wendi and informed her on how many will attend, ordered unlimited Meat & Cheese Platters and Wine. We decided to bring Desserts for everyone, assorted 'Cake Pops' that my Wife suggested. On Saturday my Lovely Wife had picked up the Desserts at various stores throughout the San Angelo area and came back with 80 assorted Cake Pops, Chocolate, Strawberry (which is birthday cake) and Cookies & Cream. The Vette-Jet is all shiny and ready to Cruise to Christoval Vineyards, which we did and arrived by 1pm to help set-up the area. We are Inside the Tasting Room that also has a Covered Patio with many tables. The Tasting Room also has a lawn area with several tables set up with Beautiful Views of the Winery. Lots of area for our get together and also open to the public. Everyone started arriving and signed there names to Special Name Tags we prepared for them. This enables them to enjoy the Wine and Meat & Cheese in various areas of the Tasting Room and Covered Patio. The Epicurean Meat & Cheese Platters are Beautifully Presented and everyone is enjoying them. The Staff here is keeping them Freshly Filled and the bottles of Wine being replaced when emptied. This was the Perfect Way to Celebrate our "150th Month-i-versary". Everyone had a lot of fun and enjoyed lots of Meats & Cheeses, like 14 Platters, and a lot of Wine was consumed - and the Cake Pops were the Perfect Choice for our Dessert. We also gave some Cake Pops to the Staff, along with some "Special Bow-Tie" Awards for all that they do - Very Well Deserved. There was a few others that were not part of our group that I gave some Cake Pops to enjoy because they were a delight to talk too. You meet the Best People at Wineries - Everyone has Fun. With only a few days notice, our 150th Month-i-versary Celebration could not of been any better. Christoval Vineyards has the Best Wines around and they Grow the Grapes and Bottle themright here on site. Check-em out on Facebook and On=Line - and join their Wine Club - it cost nothing. They also have Scheduled Entertainment on certain week-ends and events, wine tours and tastings - and even Cruises for the Wine Club Members. This Place Is AWESOME. My Wife and I, along with everyone who Celebrated with us, are Extremely Happy with everything Christoval Vineyards provided for our Special Occasion. And a Special Thank You goes out to all our Friends - We Love You All. Happy 150th Month-i-versary Baby - Love You Bunches & VineyardMunches.
