Great historic hotel. It was remodeled about 10 years ago. The rooms were modernized. Antique fossits and sinks were replaced, but there are still a lot of the original features and it is beautiful ! We had breakfast at the grill inside the hotel and enjoyed the food and service. Beds were very comfortable but I did have a hard time to use the remote for the TV lol read more

Make sure to lock in you room rate in advance. They will screw your here. The claim that now they have fluctuating rates. They have put me in the smallest room in the hotel and are charging me the same rate as the King suite. I have stayed here several times and they don't give a damn I'm a returning customer. I have a friend who's company was getting a corporate rate they found out it was more than the normal rate. The Settles should be called the "Screw You Suites" read more

What a great hotel. They have restored the elegance of this 30s era hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful. Our anniversary fell during the middle of the week so I decided we'd make the 45 minute drive over and spend the night. Glad we did. Much better than going out to dinner at a crowded restaurant then back home. They don't make hotels like this anymore. Had dinner at the restaurant. Avocado fundido appetizer was great. I had a tossed salad too. It was enough for a meal. Ranch dressing was awesome. I had chicken fried steak. Very very good. My wife had the pork chop. It was probably 2" thick and very tasty. Chocolate torte for dessert was good. A little too chocolate for my taste. Can't wait to see what is for breakfast. read more

I have stayed in this hotel several times. They are located in down town Big spring. There is a club directly across the street from the Settles hotel. There are not many rooms Per floor so I know that I want to stay in a #5 room. Which the furthest away from the loud bass that goes into the night and the roar of large Duly trucks . The hotel itself is wonderful and is very beautiful. But if you check into a hotel it is nice to sleep. They either need to change the windows to a double pane sound barrier or move that club out of town. It is terrible. read more

We took the long way to Big Bend to stop at the Settles. The detour was completely worth it. Big Spring has a long way to go, but the Settles is impressive rebirth of an old landmark. Our room was very large, and obviously brand new. The attention to detail on the renovation was truly impressive. The grill is very good, and the staff is great. They do need to practice a better answer to "what is there to see in Big Spring". Parts of the renovation are still under way, like the whole pool area. I'll be back when its done. read more

Beautiful hotel, great service and historic feel to this gem of Big Spring TX. I came here on a business trip with my mother. We staid in one of the historic rooms that were renovated to look like the original rooms of this glorious hotel. The bed was super comfortable, the linens very nice and our stay was short but sweet. What a terrible dining experience! Watched our entrees sit in the window for almost 30 minutes as Im pretty sure someone forgot about our mediocre appetizers. Glasses became empty at the table. When I approached the chef and asked him why the hell I was being served food that sat that long...he denied the time. A hotel manager approached and told me to sit down or I was going to be thrown out. WELL...he ended up throwing me out and threatening to call the police. Today is my first bad review...ever! Worst hospitality. Worst kitchen timing. Overpriced Denny's food at best. The poor girl waiting on us was not failing...the kitchen and management were. We bid on this hotel in a silent auction in Dallas not really knowing anything about the hotel or Big Spring. We had no idea when we "won" how much we would love it. I must start by saying this is a 4 hour done from Dallas with not much to see on route and the downtown of Big Spring is either closed and boarded up. So this hotel is a destination into itself. ... and my review is of the hotel and not Big Spring (which sadly would rate low) Also please bear in mind we did not pay the full amount for our room and if I had paid $200-$250 I am sure my review would be different. The fact is this hotel is about the only thing open in the small downtown and until recently was also closed. They have renovated this hotel to its former splendor and what an amazing job. The hotel has a restaurant (Settles grill) and a wonderful bar called The pharmacy (once an old drug store) The lobby is stunning and a beautiful pool complete with cabanas is outside (wasn't warm enough for us to enjoy this) Our room was just gorgeous and had a view of the flat plains all around. I don't know how busy the hotel was but our room was incredibly peaceful at night. I don't know if I would travel back to Big Spring just for a full price night here but I certainty would for the right price. My only complaint at all is that the staff in both the hotel and the restaurant seemed so young and inexperienced. They were all very sweet and friendly but just not very knowledgeable about the area, the food, the hotel. .. anything. read more

This place is amazing! After being closed and sitting vacant for 30 years, it was completely renovated and reopened. All floors, except the 3rd floor, were enlarged and are HUGE! The 3rd floor was left original and even those rooms aren't too small. Elvis once stayed in 311. It has a beautiful outside pool and hot tub and a restaurant and bar inside. The lobby is quite grand with a very elegant staircase. Definitely an amazing place to stay, if ever in the area. read more

My mom had been raving about the Settles Hotel in Big Spring. I live about 45 min to an hour away from Big Spring in Odessa and while Odessa is nothing fancy, Big Spring is basically Midland-Odessa's much smaller ugly sister nobody ever talks about. So I was skeptical that anything in Big Spring would be worth visiting for fun. But I admit, I was oh-so very wrong. When we were driving up to the Settles for the first time, I realized it was a building I had seen standing tall in Big Spring. It's the only tall building there. Anyways, we parked and walked in. I knew the basics of the history. It was left rotting and abandoned for 30 years and some rich local savior swooped down and revived it. It was clear from just walking in that this place is immaculately and perfectly restored. The lobby greets you and you are aware it's decorated like the 30s, but it really has a feel that lets you know everything is brand new. Yes, you can think back to a whole other era and imagine yourself there before the hotel had wifi, but you'll feel assured that you will, in fact, have wifi. The rooms are big and beautiful. The restaurant is NOT to be missed. That may be the best food in West Texas and I hate saying that because Odessa has some epic Mexican food. The corn chowder is perfect, the bread is warm and the avacado fundido (whatever that means) is mouth watering. Do yourself a favor. Give the Settles (and Big Spring) a chance. You won't be disappointed. read more

Chicken fried pimento olives! Hello my new favorite fried food. Settler burger had me at "how would you like that cooked?" Yes to medium rare! Had Dripping Springs and Tito's vodka in their bar! Also had several other Texas labels and the usual suspects in a well stocked bar. You can wear casual or be all gussied up. The food was all delicious! Service was excellent! Everything all the other posters said except the 4* local as nothing needed improvement when we were there. We stayed in 302, which is one of the historic rooms. Small, but just what you need. The Pharmacy Bar is fantastic and the Grill restaurant just fine for breakfast. We didn't eat dinner there. The pool area is beautiful. The attention to detail in the restoration impressive throughout the hotel. Period pictures are all over the hotel and in many of the regular (non historic) rooms. Be sure to check out the large print of a party in the banquet room hanging in the banquet room (It's around the corner.) and even if you don't use the fitness room, check out the picture of the T&P Railroad maintenance crew on the wall. If you do use the fitness room, you will be impressed. read more

I don't even know where to begin! The staff here is friendly, hotel is astonishingly beautiful, the shower (high velocity water) was fantastic, and the bed was sheer comfort. The only reason that I am not giving it 5 stars is because, when I asked, they did not have an alternative to down pillows and comforters. I found that quite difficult to believe. I've never been to a hotel that did not have an alternative to down. I was rather disappointed because I am allergic to feathers so while the bed was comfortable; I struggled to sleep due to the to continuous scratching throughout the night. Luckily, I purchased a throw blanket earlier that day. I ended up, in the middle of the night, having to retrieve it from the car. As I stated, that is my only real complaint. All in all, this is a BEAUTIFUL hotel! read more

My family and I stayed at the Settles Hotel on a road trip to the Grand Canyon. I reviewed the hotel before coming here and it had high ratings, so I booked one of the nicer rooms (the balcony rooms are nice ... huge balcony). The hotel is beautiful. Still has some renovations to complete, but the rooms are great. Furnishings are very tasteful. We ordered room service and the kids and adult meals were great. We went swimming in the new pool and the kids loved it. The front desk, restaurant and bar staff were all great. I highly recommend that if you stay in Big Spring, TX, you should stay at the Settles Hotel. read more

In my line of work I do a lot of driving to and from the cities and small towns of West Texas, and over the years I've gotten to know many of the more notable places to have lunch. I always look forward to a lunch hour in Big Spring because it means I might get to eat at the Settles Hotel Grill. They have good American grill food in a really nice, upscale-but-not-ostentatious atmosphere. I typically get a salad; today it was the Chipotle Caesar with grilled salmon. I wish it was better so if have something nicer to write, but my order was incorrect (requested avocados were missing) and the salmon was way, way over-cooked. Hopefully today was an off day. This hotel is hidden jewel. I almost didn't stay at this hotel because of the pictures of the surrounding neighborhood posted on the Internet. Most of the buildings/businesses are boarded up and it didn't look like a safe area. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The hotel is located in the old town district and is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in...that includes hotels like the Embassy Suites, Hilton, Hyatt, JW Marriott, Millennium and similar. The $30M hotel restoration is the best I've ever seen and is as good, if not better than any modern-day hotel. They spared no expense and used the finest construction materials and craftmanship that make it a world class hotel. The ONLY downside is it's location. While most of the surrounding buildings are unused, this place is an awesome "old town" restoration site. It is clean, safe, and has that historic charm you find in many restored "old towns." It is an absolute gold mine for investors or individuals wanting to take advantage of it's potential. AND, having a great hotel like the Settles next to your business is an added bonus. read more

We have lived in Big Spring for over 30-years and were excited when this hotel was refurbished. Wow. What a great job. Rooms are huge and modern. Bathrooms are granite and tile and beautiful. Restaurant is great. Bar is great. I will recommend this to every visitor of Big Spring I come across. This is a gem. I travel all around the world, and would put this hotel up against the best of them. It's still being worked on at this date and some areas obviously need improving, but this hotel is fantastic. Booked special Valentine dinner at grill. At $60 per plate, my expectations were for something nice. I was terribly disappointed! I could have saved $50 per plate and had better quality with more variety at a cafeteria. Server rushed us dining and even brought the desert selection prior to our finishing of the meal. Not going back to this place for a meal! Only thing nice about the experience was the Settles Margarita in the Bar prior to the meal. It's a shame that they have spent that money on such a special renovation and then let the grill become so poor! read more

After reading the recent article in Texas Monthly, and heading West, we decided to visit Hotel Settles. The art-deco hotel exceeded all expectations. On par with any hotel in New York, Miami, or San Francisco. The Pharmacy Bar was also really chic, complete with a gameroom, pool table and friendly, attentive, servers. The wine list was very nice however, we decided to try the icy cold draft beer. Is there any chance of bringing in Boddington's? Our breakfast server was very nice and talked to us about the room Elvis stayed in, the John Wayne Festival and possible plans to open an Alamo Draft House. We look forward to visiting again after the pool and hot tub are open. read more
