A local Indian/Sri-Lankan restaurant that has been around for over 15 years. From the outside it looks like any old Indian place but inside it changes. The menu is massive but they also had "spring specials", figuring we could get a butter chicken anywhere we tried some of the specials. They were great, we had the paneer tikka, chicken tikka phaal and gunpowder beef. We also had some samosas (veg) which held their shape when cut and were delicious. We also got the garlic naan and pashwari naan, sometimes the fruit naan can be a failure but it was perfect here. Also serving sizes were good, you got more than a couple pieces of meat in sauce. Service is super friendly, one of the waiters noticed we were having troubles getting our 2 year old to sit, so he came over and played with her while we finished our glass of wine. Only things that stop it being 5 stars is the service is occasionally forgetful (we had to ask for things multiple times) and it being on the pricey side of things. read more
So this isn't the most inviting looking joint from the outside. As soon as you enter you can smell the spices and the traditional Indian feel is ever present. Having said that I've not actually dined in but I've had take away from here a few times and the food is truly excellent. The butter chicken is to die for, the saag is very very good as are the samosa. It's definitely our go to place for take away Indian. read more

After just moving to Croydon, we were exploring the local shops, not expecting much. We decided to just try the local Indian, we didn't get our hopes up. But we were blown away! Nice decor. I felt a bit underdressed actually! Great service! I asked a lot of weird questions about the teas, and they answered them and even allowed me to choose exactly how strong to make it etc. After we ordered, out came a free snack of pappadoms and some nice dips. Awesome :) We had the mixed meat entree platter for 2, and although it is pricey, it's a meal in itself! And everything on it was delicious! We had just one curry to share, because we went for the giant entree. We chose chicken korma, and it was fantastic. Before this, I was unaware that korma was made of actual real ingredients, I thought it was just blended spices of some kind. But this amazingly fresh curry had proper pieces of all the original things that went in - kind of the consistency of a salsa. They must have a real chef! I think our bill ended up being about $65 for 2 people, which isn't what I'd call cheap, but I really felt the quality of food made it good value for money anyway. Next time we will dress nicer and go here for more of a night out type dinner! read more

Situated in the suburb of Croydon is a suburban Indian restaurant called Sravana Bhawan. With a bright and cosy ambience - it's a nice place to go to if you don't want to travel far and just have a delicious quite meal . The food is excellent. Fantastic garlic prawns, Mouth melting Idlis and yummy biryani left my tastebuds delighted. Overall the quality of the food is very good and that's why I didn't mind paying the higher price. I guess with the cost of living (including groceries and labour going up) it is justified. Also the servings are quite large. It was a refreshing change from the regular Indian suburban restaurants. Another little thing that I noticed was the cloth napkins and cloth table cloth, they seem to be a novelty and definitely not expected in suburban restaurants. The service was great we didn't have to really call out to anyone to serve us , very swift. Definitely worth going again, especially for the south Indian food. read more

Lived in Croydon for 13 years and left 3 years ago. Returned today to visit this restaurant, and it had nut failed to impress again. It is simply the best Indian/Sri Lankan I've had...full stop. Not cheap... But worth it and well worth the trip back to my old hood. Get the seasonal specials. They are memorable. read more

Food was delicious and fairly well priced. The service was a little bit slow but the restaurant was full on a Tuesday night so not surprising. Garlic naan and butter paneer masala blew my mind! read more
