It's quite astounding to find a French Bengali Degustation restaurant anywhere, but on Victoria…read moreRoad in Rydalmere is a tad mind blowing. It has only been open for three weeks, and has an eclectic variety of furnishings that works quite well, with a cute touch that involves the table legs being wrapped and draped in an under cloth. The wait staff could be a lot more polished, a napkin missing from our table setting, not bringing the correct amount of wine glasses, presenting the wrong bottle of wine and only telling us that the one we had ordered was not available when questioned about it, but that's just nit picking, as the only reason the average quality of the service stood out was because the quality of the food was so outstanding. That being said, by the way, I should add that The Chef (Or Chef / Owner, not sure) is personable and comes to your table explain each dish, and I really liked him, he is passionate about his food, and it shows. I am not sure if his food is insanity, or genius. Either way, it works. We were presented with a "Cappuccino" Amuse Bouche. A milky frothy corn soup with cummin seed, served with a smoking stick of cinnamon on the side. Delightful, if a tad large for an amuse bouche. This was followed by things like lobster and prawn parfait that had a kick, and was topped by a rice flour papadum, a Salmon Confit with pumpkin custard and burnt balsamic onion (Yes, it was delicious), Duck Breast served with Butter Chicken Marshmallow..Goodness! I am glad I took a photo of the menu! The dishes kept coming, and they were all interesting. The dessert finale was wonderful, but I just could not eat it all. I wish I could have! The Ghee Ice cream component had a salted caramel, nutty taste that was fabulous. The place only seats about 30 people, I think they must make their money from the bistro and bar. Give it a go before it becomes hard to get a table, it's worth the schlep down Victoria Road, I promise! Oh, it's $85 for 8 courses, add $45 for matched wines.

We went for dinner with friends on one of my last nights in the city recently, and had no problem getting a table for 5 on a weeknight (although I think we did have a booking). The drinks are reasonably priced, so we started with beers and a few apps. Like lots of other local places, it's a fun idea to get both apps and mains to share with your table, and it's almost necessary here with the huge menu! Everything was spiced and seasoned perfectly, and served in generous portions. Our server was attentive but not annoying. Lots of restaurants in this area come and go, but this one seems to be using quality service and ingredients to make it for the long haul. I'm honesty getting hungry right now just thinking about my incredible meal there.

After 20 mins of hand waving we catch a waitresses who tells us " No thalis available " Another 10 minutes of looking for any one from 'Billus' Then we see that two tables that came before us have no food on their table. BTW.... it's Mothers Day... so you would expect ramped up service. We gave up and went to Chatkass Restaurant. Food on the table within 10 minutes Billus.... never again !

Ginger Indian Restaurant is my new go to Indian Restaurant. Being Indian, you know you can trust my…read moreopinion on this restaurant, especially because when it comes to Indian food, I am usually WAY biased towards my mum's cooking :P Anyways though, the food here does 4 things very right that majority of Indian restaurants do very wrong (in my experience). 1. It does not finish a vat of oil per dish - there is no glistening layer of fat on top of your dishes, yet at the same time, they are generally not dry so that the spices get stuck in your throat. A perfect balance actually. 2. They have the options of spicy vs mild, and their dishes actually mean it. More often than not, even mild will be ridiculously spicy in Indian restaurants, but at Ginger, mild (for me at least) was so definitely mild. Not flavourless, but certainly not flavourful from the hit of chilli! But at least they cater to all palates. 3. They don't mess up your order. And this is after not using notepads. That is just SO boss. 4. There is no overdose of gaudy Bollywood music or overdone Indian decor. It is subtle, comfortable and smells of delicious Indian cooking scent everyone. Your meal isn't interrupted by whistles from songs or jangling, which is such a change! Overall, I would recommend Ginger to absolutely everyone! Their food is delicious, the atmosphere is homely and I have no complaints after eating there!

Ginger offers home-cooked style dishes and the restaurant is literally a converted house which on…read moreone side makes the place more authentic and homely, the flip-side is that it might be too claustrophobic and dark inside. SAMOSA CHAAT Best dish, I would describe it as an Indian pie with tangy salsa but it's much more than that. The samosa shell just melts in your mouth after that vinaigrette had broken the floury samosa sheets. That vinaigrette packed lots of flavour from spices, fresh tomatoes, onions and chickpeas for texture and body. The filling had a very dense consistency for a vegetarian dish and felt almost like minced-meat(thumbs up!). Together the samosa and other elements are well-balanced. This dish could convert any meat-lover to vegetarian. PRAWN TIKKA MASALA Curry sauce was alright, prawns were ever so slightly undercooked, I'm not sure if the chef meant it, but most people would have sent it back. Although it's much better than overcooked prawns. CHICKEN DARBARI Best curry of the two. Curry sauce was above average and the star here is the chicken which is so tender, it melts in your mouth. LAMB BIRYANI BADSHAI Not the best biryani but far from the worst. Nothing was wrong technically rice had a bite to it, lamb broke apart, there was something missing though. GARLIC NAAN Naan is an absolute must to clean up your curry. Fluffy and light, no complaints here. Conclusion Solid restaurant offering as many proper vegetarian as non-vegetarian mains that pack a ton of flavour. That said, I have tasted better renditions of the dishes above and at their price point there is somewhat a mismatch in value especially portion size. @thesydneynoob
