Where to start... This place has some serious organizational problems. We booked a deluxe room a month in advance, and when we got to the hotel they put us in a standard room without mentioning the change had been made. This room was extremely tiny, and we wanted to make sure we got the right room.
We went downstairs to ask at the front desk and that is when they told us our original room had been given to another patron because the hotel was overbooked... They knew this, but attempted to withhold the information in case we didn't notice. Needless to say we were very displeased with the situation. They offered to compensate us 10% off the room rate, which was unacceptable. They gave us the wrong room and attempted to slip it past us hoping we would not notice. They had a full month from our booking to notify us via email or phone call of the problem but did nothing of the sort.
They told us we could move rooms the following day, and we accepted. We were given no instructions on what to do or by when. The next day we were out and about seeing the sites and they called & emailed us telling us that if we wanted to move rooms it had to be 2pm - again horrible in explaining what they expected of us for the swap - since we couldn't make it back to the hotel until later that day they demanded permission to move our things to the new room for us. The way they talked to us was borderline rude and aggressive. Hardly the way I'd expected them to treat us after putting us through such a ridiculous series of events.
To make matters worse the staff here are clueless. Multiple people at the front desk gave us misleading and conflicting stories about the reason behind the overbooking fiasco. Different people gave us different amounts we could expect to be refunded. Also, when we inquired about other things like taxi price to the airport we were given the wrong number - 35 euros instead of 55 euro. You can imagine our surprise when the cab driver asked for his money.
The hotel itself is in an older building, and it appears that to cut cost on renovations the only redid the rooms and the lobby. The hallways have old, horrendous blood red carpet, and the location of the hotel is not good for tourists looking to see the sites. You have to walk quite a bit to get to the subway, and the closest line isn't a great one for getting to the major attractions. The only plus is that the hotel is near Sacre Cours.
The hotel rooms themselves are just weird. The standard doubles are completely ridiculous. The entryway of these rooms is so small your shoulders touch each wall as you walk through. There is hardly any space for your luggage. We literally had to stack furniture in a corner to make room in the entryway to move through and I'm not a big guy (5'10", 170lb). Hilariously, one of the many reasons they gave us for sticking us in this tiny crappy room was that it came down to a couple with a child and us - since these rooms are so small it was against fire code for them to allow 3 people to stay in the standard double room. The furniture itself is unattractive and cheap - think sheet metal cabinets painted black - painfully loud to open and close drawers since drawers don't slide in and out on rails - think loud metal on metal scraping sounds. Phone had no information on or near it about how to contact front desk. They don't even have a concierge. Elevator is not trustworthy - tiny, very old, very slow, and makes strange noises. We felt it was safer to take the stairs.
Ruined our last couple days in Paris - we were there on vacation and our experience here stood out as the single negative part of our entire trip. Do yourself a favor and pick a different hotel - save yourself the stress and annoyance. We originally booked because we had a pleasant stay in their Barcelona location, but man... Paris needs serious serious work. read more
