Amazing beautiful hotel! I'm so glad we booked this. It was perfect walking distance just far enough away from the main hustle and bustle. It was about 10-15 minutes walking to the duomo/city center area. The room itself was so clean and plenty of space. The bathroom was amazing, nice big rainfall shower and tub. The water pressure was insane!!! Nice big closet and comfortable bed. We booked a garden view room and it opened up to the lush garden area. Right outside our window was delicious smelling gardenia flowers. It was so peaceful walking out there to hear the birds chirp and smell the flowers. The breakfast was so good. Ate there every morning! Staff was so helpful and friendly, we had cappuccinos delivered to our table. The coffees were so good and the breakfast selection was excellent. Staff was so friendly and helpful. They were so nice and greeted you as you enter every time! Within the immediate area of the hotel are some nice restaurants and cafes! This is THE place to stay in Florence It was our first trip to Italy and we couldn't be more happier with this hotel in Florence. We stayed here for five nights and got plenty of rest after miles and miles of walking thanks to a comfortable bed and a quite neighborhood. As others have said, the hotel is not far from major attractions such as The David, Uffizi Museum, and Piazza Duomo. And when we walked to further attractions such as the Ponte Vecchio or Piazzale Michelangelo, how comforting and relaxing it was to return to the hotel for a rewarding cocktail. It's such a convenient location but on such a quite street, it was hard to believe that the chaos and crowds were just minutes away. We got a room with a balcony and had lovely views of Renaissance style rooftops and a stunning night view of the Dumo. We enjoyed a lunch and some restful, quite time. The people working behind the front desk were friendly, personable, and helpful. They took care of calling a taxi for us on that sad day when we had to leave. We hope to return to Florence one day. If we do, Orto de'Medici Hotel is where we will stay. read more

I can't believe I have to write this, but this experience was the WORST hotel experience I've had In years. I chose this hotel because of the great reviews, but unfortunately my experience was not the same and it seems like management could honestly care less. I had multiple nights of people above me stomping, dropping things, and dragging things on the floor (these noises went at least till 2300hrs). This small glimpse of a video is that experience throughout my stay. I contacted the front desk, nothing changed, so I ended up writing a message hoping it would find its way to somebody who could help. For a 4star hotel charging €400 a night, you would think you are paying for an experience and service, but I was wrong. When I went to checkout, they offered to cover a €7 a night city tax for compensation, which I do not think is equivalent to being able to relax and sleep in your room. At this point there is nothing I can do but share my experience with other guests, so they can fully understand what you could experience or the lack of care from a management team. I asked if they needed anything before I departed and they said no. To make things worse, they start calling a couple hours after I left because they forgot to charge my credit card before I departed. So now they want me to start emailing me credit card information, which is not something I feel comfortable doing over a non secure platform. This place ruined my experience of Florence!!! read more

This hotel is beautiful! The rooms are immaculate and very spacious! The staff is extremely helpful and friendly! There is a beautiful terrace to have a delicious and expansive breakfast. I wouldn't stay any where else and highly recommend! read more

Beautiful historical hotel. Rooms recently renovated. Great location. Friendly/helpful staff at the front desk. We'd definitely stay there again. Needed a room for 3 with elevator, shower stall door, great location and great reviews. (You'll find many Florence hotels don't have elevators or shower stall doors.) And then Orto de Medici became our home for the 5 nights. Rooms - got the junior suite which included 2 twin beds and 2 chairs that could convert to a twin bed. Mini-fridge. Toiletries - olive oil bar soap, conditioning shampoo, shower gel, etc. Two areas to hang clothes. Bathroom had a toilet & sink with door in the back part, and sink & shower stall (very nice rain shower head!) in the front part. Free WIFI. Unique to us was the front doorknobs located in the center of the door which you'll see on the historic doors all over Florence. Interesting is that 2nd key is needed to power all the lights and air/heat -- so when you leave the room, everything is powered off. Also you're required to leave your key w/ the front desk whenever you leave - which you'll want to do based on the heavy weight of they keys :) Oh don't forget to enjoy the complimentary popsicles next to the front desk ... although I think the orange flavor was the only one we liked :) Elevators - just one elevator and it's tiny ... fits 4 people max but just 2 w/ luggage :) Complimentary breakfast - one of our favorite times of the day! Croissants/pastries, cake, toast, scrambled & boiled eggs, bacon, meats, cheese, fresh fruit. Our favorites - the caprese bar (cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, olive oil, balsamic), blood orange juicing machine, coffee/cappuccino machine (every permutation of coffee imaginable!). Everything was good! Andrea was awesome - very friendly, personable and like a ray of sunshine for all of us just waking up :) Nice sunny room too and patio too. Great location - everything is within reasonable walking distance. The Accademia and San Marco museums are really close by. Also some good restaurants nearby too - we enjoyed Simbiosi. Da Mimmo not so much. FYI we booked directly w/ the hotel website - slightly better rates than Expedia. FYI it's about 25 euros taxi ride to/from airport. read more

The hotel is in a historic building about 0.4mi north of the Duomo and two blocks from the Galleria dell'Accademia de Firenze (where Michelangelo's Davis is located). A laundromat (Il Defino) is only one block away and a small inexpensive grocery store (Pam local) three blocks away. I thought my hotel room in Rome was top notch but this one beat it by a mile. The room is spacious and modern with plenty of outlets, with top notch fixtures in the bathroom. The large shower (6'x3') even has a rainfall shower head in the ceiling. Also plenty of counter space, which my last place did not. The best feature of this hotel was the outstanding front desk staff. They were super-helpful with reservations and other requests, especially since I don't speak any Italian. They made me feel like their friend. I got a great rate through Tripadvisor with free WiFi and free breakfast, although breakfast is not the best I've had on this trip. In fact, the breakfast was my only complaint. There was no hot food, limited selection (cereals, yogurt, a few pastries, one type of fresh cheese, 3 types of lunch meats and hard boiled eggs & you have to ask for coffee (or cappuccino) and it is hard to get more from the busy staff. I always wound up going out and getting another cafe americano. If I had one suggestion, it would be to have some coffee (even instant) in the room with a hot pot. Anyway, I still highly recommend this hotel. (Note: outdoor patio was under renovation, so cannot comment but too cold anyway). read more

This was my favorite hotel we stayed at in Italy. We took a taxi from the train station and were dropped off at our hotel a little earlier than our check in time but Judith checked us in and told us we had been upgraded - which is always nice. Our room was off the little garden or "orto." The room was beautiful room, large and most important to my husband, it had a bath tub! Our stay was fantastic, the staff was friendly and attentive. I watched the staff go above and beyond. Another guest asked for a 3 minute egg, even though only scrambled were served. One of the staff went and made one for him. It rained most of the time we were in Florence, but the staff had a stack of umbrellas ready for the guests to use. Despite the rain, we were still able to enjoy the grounds which were beautifully well kept. Very florentine feel to it. We had forgotten to print one of our tickets for one of our tours. No worries, there were two mac computers ready at our disposal. The only annoying part was someone had set the default language to French. Unfortunately, we had very long days and never made it back to the hotel for their happy hour. The only thing I would change was the hand towels/second towels in the rooms were more like cloth napkins than actual towels. However, the bath products, which I NEVER use at hotels because they dry out my skin were actually really nice and not drying at all. If we go back to Florence, I would stay here again and have recommended this hotel to friends already. read more

Had the pleasure of staying at Orto de Medici while visiting Florence for the first time. The hotel was so incredibly nice for the cost. To provide a frame of reference, my fiancé and I came here for her birthday since it was a short trip from Edinburgh. We're in our mid 20's. Our room was on the 4th floor. Unfortunately, we didn't have a view. That can be expected since we opted for the cheaper room. Regardless, the room was quite large, had double doors, armoires and a wonderful bathroom. The only issue here was that our room door was about 1in thick and it was directly in front of the elevator door. I would imagine that if we could hear people's conversations in the hallway, they could hear ours. The morning breakfast was stellar. Grant it, we had to fight off a pigeon or two but it was worth it. We stayed post-renovation. The entry to the hotel was wonderful slick marble, clean lines and modern while maintaining the classic look of a Florence establishment. Bonus that the lobby had two very new iMacs for use free of charge. The location is also stellar. There's a great little shop across the road where you can get wine/beer at a decent price. There is also a cafe at the corner and tourist sites are nearby. This was honestly one of the most pleasurable stays I've had while traveling Europe. Extremely friendly staff, clean rooms, good food and a beautiful city. read more

This hotel is a mix of the ancient and the modern. Once a home for a Medici family member and where a teenaged Michelangelo practiced his handiwork, it's now a nice hotel. Lovely, lovely, rooms that are modern and clean. We opted for a deluxe room with balcony (with table and two chairs). Nice choice as when the weather cleared up it was lovely to sit out there a while and take pictures of the Duomo in the distance. Oh, the bathroom is so modern and has a lovely rain shower. Excellent amenities too especially the olive oil based toiletries! Staff are helpful if one needs it and unobtrusive. Breakfast is fantastic as well. We ordered in our breakfasts and the espressos and/or tea came in lovely wares emblazoned with the hotel's logo. High end jams in pots and fresh, delicious cornetti and bread plus mortadella and cheeses were offered. Highly recommended! read more

Traveled to Italy with 4 friends for 11 days and visited Rome, Florence, Venice, and Milan...Florence was my favorite! Great shopping very close to hotel...loved the San Lorenzo Market, which is just a couple of blocks from hotel. And watching the sunset from the bridge was beautiful! read more

My adult daughter and I stayed here for five nights in May 2013. It was wonderful. Charming and old world while at the same time, clearly recently remodeled and convenient. And totally non-smoking. Location--excellent. A very short walk from the Duomo and other major sites, yet out of the real crush. There were shops, restaurants, etc, right on the street and the Accademia is only two blocks away, as is Piazza San Marco. The Botanic gardens are also very close by. Breakfast--superb. Of course, we had sunny days and were on the jasmine scented patio, which is a plus. But the food was very good and there was certainly plenty of it. Staff--great. Very friendly and helpful. The only exception was we left early in the morning and the person who was n, someone I had never seen before, did not even say goodbye as we left. Too bad because it was such a friendly place. Room--We were on the second floor in front. The room was large enough for two, very clean as was the large bathroom. I have asthma and my number one concern is always smoke or mold. (You get so many places that are "non-smoking" but in fact, people have been smoking there and the room smells. Not here.) The room itself was just fine although I have to say we could not use the big wardrobe or the extra blanket in it because it was so musty in there. There was some street noise at night but we really did not care after our very full days walking across, around and UP everything Florence has to offer. Public areas--lovely. The garden area was beautiful and offered several places to sit, including a quiet area where we read surrounded by the jasmine and roses one pretty afternoon. There are two computers opposite the desk when you enter (Macs, I believe) and there is a very pretty sitting room on the second floor. Wifi worked well. There is even what I think is a free little ice cream freezer at reception. I would love to go again. read more

Loved this quaint boutique hotel. It was close enough to the center of Florence and in walking distance to the train station. We stayed in the "simpler" rooms which was cost effective and clean. While the room did seem like we were staying at an old grandparent's room, the rest of the building didn't have that feeling. Again, yes the plumbing, bathroom and bedroom were not modern by any means, they were extremely clean and comfortable. The bed (which seems to be an Italian thing) are low and firm. The breakfast we perfect to start your day and included hard boiled eggs, pastry items, fresh squeezed OJ, salumi, mozzarella, breads as well as an assortment of coffees and teas. The hotel was not overwhelmingly big, but offered you enough space to enjoy your stay peacefully. The staff members were always extremely cordial and helpful. On a side note, they make you leave your key upon exiting the building, and then you pick it up again when you return. I thought this was a great way to monitor who was entering and exiting and felt very safe using this system. read more
