4 Star Hotel - 5 Star Location - Yet Receptionist with Bad Attitude Equals 3 Stars
My family and I just spent 10 awesome days in Rome. We stayed at the Hotel Memphis.
This hotel deserves a 5 star rating and would have received one, had it not been for a couple of awkward encounters with one of the receptionists.
Yet, let me start with the pros!
The hotel is very clean! When I say clean, I mean they cleaned our room everyday, in a time when most hotels only clean every other day.
The second pro was location! We were 4 minutes from the Trevi Fountain, 7 minutes from the Spanish Steps, 21 minutes from the Colosseum and Roma Termini, and 13 minutes from the Pantheon.
Now the cons. The breakfast was a plus, but the breakfast was not always tasty. There was steamed zucchini on the buffet, but they were cold and tasted odd.
The eggs were good, and you had a choice of scrambled or hard boiled, but wieners for breakfast? Wieners for breakfast? There was bacon sometimes, but the bacon
looked undercooked.
The texture of the salami on the buffet was soft and gelatinous. A second con was the attitude of one of the receptionists.
He, is actually the reason why I cannot give the hotel 5 stars! On the third night of my stay, he had the audacity to ask my wife and I where my daughter was staying?
He stated that it was two to a room. I was appalled because it was obvious that he was accusing my wife and I of wrongdoing, when in all actuality we had a family room (adjoining).
I did not appreciate the random audacity of the I got you moment attempt on my vacation! I also did not appreciate his competence level in calling for a taxi, where I could have missed my train to Florence because of it.
He could (older gentleman/receptionist with long gray beard and gray hair), use some hospitality training. For this reason I give the Hotel Memphis 3 out of 5 stars, because I found it awkward that he would be telling me two to a room after we were already checked into the hotel, booked through United Airlines Vacations. read more
