Ah, Hotel Marco Polo. As I skimmed through yelp I was asked to write its first review. As an American, I crossed the pond to stop in Italy for the very first time. This Hotel is rather far from most of the main landmarks of Roma. HOWEVER, as a tourist, you come to not just sleep in your hotel. You come to visit these famous locations.
The distance is walkable, but I highly recommend you wear comfy shoes if you're not used to walking 10k+ steps a day. This hotel has a very luxurious feel to it when you enter. The steps that lead up make you realize that you are in Italia.
The hotel itself seems to be quite compact though. The rooms are very tight, but again, that's the perspective from an American. The shower that we were given was extremely tight, and you couldn't bend down in case you dropped the soap (pun intended). I suggest obtaining a room above the 2nd floor or else you'll have to keep your curtains closed all day as their windows are at the exact level of the patio in the back of the building.
The night life around this hotel is small with two bars/dinning restaurants attached to the side of the hotel (no direct access from the hotel). It's a very quiet little area, not much noise and everyone is kind so long as you follow proper customs.
The Hotel itself has a kitchen and a dinning room in its second floor with complimentary continental breakfast. At night, it has a small bar for drinks if desired. However, the bar itself closes early so keep that in mind if you are planning on sneaking a few drinks before going out at night.
The main entrance doors are locked in the evening and there is always someone watching who enters and who leaves. It is secure in that aspect and it feels like you're being taken care of properly.
Employees are kind and keep to themselves. Doors use physical keys and they ask that you turn in your key before you leave to explore during the day. This is not required, and you can take your key with you in case you are worried about your belongings.
The hotel loses one star because of the 2nd floor unfortunate event. At times it felt depressing keep the thick curtains closed up without a shed of light. Also, we were disappointed in the shower, but overall it was an amazing experience. Our journey took us through the Hotel Marco Polo, but our memories will always remember this place. It is a quiet, memorable, and enjoyable location to stay if you don't mind the suburbs of Roma. read more
