    Window in the room
    Karine C.

This hotel was recommended to me by a friend from New York, a famous architect, he stayed here a few years ago and spoke well about the hotel and its owner, who personally inspected the hotel. We booked the superior room for 5 days. My husband wrote email to the hotel in advance clarifying this my birthday's trip and asking for a room with 1 queen bed, he was answered that they would try as much as possible. However, upon arrival at the hotel, our room was not ready, we waited 1.5 hours, finally we were given a room not at all similar to the photo on the official hotel website and Hotel.com. The room 302 is small with a terrible view from the window. There are two beds in the room. The beds are failed, uncomfortable, the pillows are very old, small TV, there was no promised walk in closet. The beds are failed, uncomfortable, the pillows are very old. A room with old carpeting, saggy curtains, dirty bathroom porters. Different-size hangers in the cabinet. Bathroom without hood. Toiletries were provided only on the first day, towels 2 large soft and several thin non-absorbing towels - the same for the face, bidet and under the legs. Every morning, bags of dirty linen were stacked in the hallway. I was shocked, this is not a 5 star hotel! To my indignation, the hotel manager Meryem Shael offered to look for another hotel. Really? Try to find hotel in June in Rome! I have to say, that when checking in, we were asked if we booked through Expedia, and gave this room. During 2 days I asked to give us another room, we were assured that hotel is completely booked. On our floor there were 4 free rooms, I saw for myself, they were renovated, but personal on the reception answered - this is not for you, this is for special guests. Can imagine? So if you book through Expedia, Hotel.com etc for you will have the worst rooms in this hotel. And we were offered to pay extra €70 per day for the better room, and we were forced to agree. OMG, everything was as promised in this room - size, queen bed, new floor, walk-in-closet, soft towels for face and under your feet. Toiletries were brought daily. But be prepared - there is no hair conditioner at the hotel. Also, at the entrance, the stairs are high, if you have heavy suitcases, it will not be easy for you. The hotel has no facilities for people with disabilities. The hotel has one small elevator and quite narrow stairs. The service in the restaurant at breakfast is good. Unfortunately the reception staff and manager Meryem Sahel are rude and ill-mannered. This is the first time in Italy I see such a bad service, just incompetent staff ruined the whole vacation.

I don't understand all the hype. Look at my pictures and you'll see what I mean The pictures online represent the hotel as larger than it is. Our room was not quite as big as I thought it would be and the bathroom is very small. The bathtub is extremely narrow. There is a slightly moldy carpet smell. I think there must have been a flood from the bathroom previously and the carpet underneath wasn't replaced. There are some beautiful marble walls and it must have been great 40 years ago. In the room the technology is not updated. No USB's for example. The cleaning of the room is iffy. We did not have any coffee in our room. But note the dirty coffee spill stains on that side table by the bed. The hotel needs a renovation. The carpet as you come up the stairs as you enter the hotel is worn. The cupboards have chunks of chipped wood. The mirrors in the bathroom are worn out. The caulking around the bathtub is icky and when you run the water black specs of something come out with it. The toilet seat was broken too. The bed is very ok. Dips in the middle. I'm sure the mattress is extremely old. It feels like it is. The staff are very well trained in customer service and try to be helpful. But when we needed the concierge they were never there and the front desk people tried to help but couldn't. The breakfast is pretty good. The location is central-ish. It's a very long walk or a €20 taxi ride to get to the heart of Rome where it's exciting and lots to see. I regret staying here. With tax it cost €300 Euros per night. And the taxis to and from the hotel added another €50 per day on average. Would have been better to get a €350 hotel per night in central Rome.

Situated in the center of a beautiful, upscale neighborhood in residential Rome, stands the chic Lord Byron hotel. Boasting comfort and relaxation that exceeds expectations, a stay at the luxury five-star hotel is matched by none other than your own bed. A true home away from home, if your home was an homage to the Art Deco era, filled with artwork and sculptures that delight and intrigue. I had the privilege of staying at the Lord Byron's junior suite for one night. Immediately, I noticed the atmosphere felt less like a hotel and more like a warm, familiar accommodation. I walked into the villa, where I was promptly greeted and welcomed to the property. The beauty of the art and the care and consideration taken to pick out each sculpture was apparent right away. Checking into my suite was really easy, and as soon as I opened the door to my room, I sprang for the huge king size bed. I kicked off my shoes and took in the view around me. The room was spotless, styled in the complimenting Art Deco theme as the rest of the hotel. As I settled in for the evening, I found the wooden bathroom to be the penultimate luxury, as I was able to unwind in the tub, and the provided toiletries were spa quality. The complimentary bathrobe and slippers were the icing on the cake. The suite is equipped with a LCD flat screen TV, in which I was able to find my favorite channels, too! I had such a great night of sleep and never once felt like I was out of my element. The whole hotel has such a homey feel that I truly felt like a guest at the residence of one of Rome's most important people. All of this with modern conveniences and service that goes above and beyond - that's the Lord Byron Rome. I look forward to my next stay, as the entire experience was absolutely incredible.

    Very pretty entrance to hotel.

Went to Rome with some friends and they picked the Lord Byron hotel as part of a package. We found a great rate on Trivago so we joined them there. Our friends were staying for over 2 weeks, and we were there for a week, and Lord Byron felt like home. The ONE thing to keep in mind if you stay here is that it is a good distance from the tourist stops. Its about a 30 minute walk down to the Spanish Steps (through the Borghese Gardens, pretty walk) or a 10-15 minute cab ride to pretty much anywhere. BUT keep in mind that there aren't any cabs to be hailed, rather the hotel has to call one for you. And something I didnt know until this trip, when you call the cabs they start the meter from the time of the call. Sometimes our cabs had an extra 6-8 euros racked up when we got in the cab, and one time we were totally catfished with a 12 euro surcharge even though the hotel called the cab about 5 minutes earlier! Rude! Uber exists in rome but is pretty spotty, not a ton of cars and no UberX like we are used to. I took a nice Uber Mercedes Seden from the train station that was $14 euro. A regular taxi would have been probably 10-12, so not bad! All of the staff at the hotel are super nice and accommodating. My absolute favorite part of the hotel was the included breakfast! Wow! I overdid it every single morning and regretted it but also didnt regret it, ya know what i mean. Fresh cured meats, cheeses, eggs, bacon, toast, smoked salmon, fruit, you name it! The coffee was heavenly! We didnt have a chance to eat dinner in the restaurant, but hung out at the bar a few times and had some delicious cocktails!

That made the location extremely convenient. The hotel sits a short walk from Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, where Pope Francis is buried. Some areas near the main train station are often described as unsafe by Italian standards. We did not experience that near the hotel. Tourists and locals were out late, and the neighborhood stayed active into the evening. Rome is compact and easy to navigate. Most major attractions felt reachable within about 20 minutes by taxi, bus, or rail. We tried to visit the Trevi Fountain at 10:00 pm to avoid crowds. That plan failed completely(see pic). It was packed. Locals eat later than in the U.S., and many parts of the city stay busy well into the night. Restaurants remain open late. A note for U.S. travelers. European hotel rooms run smaller for the price. Even using Hilton points, our room would have cost close to $700 per night USD and felt small. The hotel offers a pleasant rooftop bar and a spacious lobby with multiple seating areas. The buffet breakfast was a solid, comfortable way to start the day. It was included for us as Hilton Diamond members. I am unsure of the cash price. Overall, the location and amenities make this a smart pre-cruise choice, especially for travelers relying on rail connections.

However, it is quietly nestled in a beautiful little neighborhood. It is very quiet and quaint. Upon arrival we were greeted with the welcoming staff and escorted into the ruins beyond the lobby where we were brought a lovely tiramisu welcome treat to enjoy while taking in the ruins. The room is impressively large with a huge bathroom. We had a plush king sized bed with cozy down bedding. The thick beautiful curtains ensured that the room was perfectly dark for great sleep even if we wanted a mid day nap. There was a lovely little balcony with a view of the courtyard. With the curtains open the natural light is perfect. The bed was comfortable and we Sisto very nicely here. The bathroom is very big with a walk in shower and bidet with all toiletries needed to have a comfortable stay. I will say I was a bit bummed that the tile warmer was not functional but the hotel was very kind offering anything to make sure that we were happy. This was not a problem and we stayed in this room as warming towels us a perk but not a requirement. I would also note that the building is quite old and the bathroom had a metallic smell perhaps from the pipes of older plumbing but it was fine as long as we kept the bathroom door closed. I think the hotel was really concerned that we were upset but we absolutely were not just keep in mind this building is antique and if you are coming from the US where everything is new and not used to a potential aroma of antiquity be prepared to experience a true European city and do not complain. All details are thought of here including mini bar, clothes steamer, hair dryer, toiletries and a welcome gift. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. They are always ensuring that we were comfortable and happy. We absolutely loved our stay here. The hotel is a special place and experience. The nostalgia of standing and staying where the Romans once stood 2000 years ago was definitely a treat! The hotel has a rooftop terrace where we enjoyed breakfast in the mornings and wine in the evening. The lounge just inside of the terrace is cozy and comfortable to enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail in the evening and there's a cozy fireplace to warm up, which we took full advantage of after a long wet rainy day in the colosseum and Roman forum. We had a great stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a special Roman experience. We will definitely be back!

After my hospital visit was over and we went back to the hotel the staff helped translate my order and prescriptions. They were so helpful with everything else. They gave us a very good walking map of Rome with highlighted routes, a list of restaurants that they recommended and we were not disappointed in any that we went to, they scheduled taxi pickups, had umbrellas for the rain a great breakfast with awesome cappuccino and lattes and a happy hour.
