The hotel is in an OK location where it feels pretty safe and isn't too noisy at all - I'd rather stay in the Trastevere next time though. It is convenient in the sense that you're close to Termini. But being in Rome, you'll be walking around a lot. So IMHO, it doesn't really matter if you're close to the metro stops or train stations, you'll be walking around a lot regardless. On top of that, I'm not a big fan of the Termini area - it's just so busy and crazy around there. The hotel actually isn't right in the midst of Termini but is convenient if you're arriving to Rome at Termini. I guess most people do, so kind of a moot point.
The staff were friendly overall, the breakfast was OK, and the rooms were OK too. The rooms are on the smallish side and the bathrooms are tiny - there's barely enough room to move around in those tiny stand-up stalls. Coming from Porta Faenza in Florence, this definitely was a step down. Our room wreaked of baby powder which was slightly annoying. Also, the small safe in the closet also appeared to be broken (unless I just didn't know how to use it). Didn't like the fact that the only way up to the rooms is via a lift either - it would have been nice if there were stairs to get up.
Wifi is free and we had a decent signal on the 2nd or 3rd floor.
They seemed to lightly push tours on us when we first got there, offering to arrange various tours, etc. We weren't interested because we already planned most stuff out. For instance, I was planning to buy a Roma Pass (30 euros). When I told the attendant I wanted to buy the pass, he offered that I could buy it from the hotel. I saw the fee on a sign they posted and it looks like they upcharge by at least a couple euros. I'm sure it's for convenience-sake, but it's not really that hard to find all the tourist information points where they sell the Roma Passes at.
If you're looking for really great places to eat around here, this isn't the location. Other than being relatively close to the Colosseum, there's nothing particularly special about this hotel. I wouldn't be in a rush to go back if I were ever to return to Rome. it would be nice for a night or two if you're just staying over or on a long-layover in Rome. Otherwise, it might be worth staying in a different part. I should disclose a potential bias that Rome is not my favorite city. I'm not sure how I enjoyed it so much 10 years ago; maybe things have changed a lot. I'm in favor of never returning again. read more
