Hotel IX was great and the perfect location. Stayed in the Wolvenstraat Suite. Very nice, clean, modern room. The bed was very comfortable and a nice big open space.
The minibar was stocked daily and was free. We took advantage by drinking the water, sodas and nespresso. Wine and Heineken were provided but we aren't big drinkers.
The shower had plenty of hot water and the shower amenities were very nice.
In our suite we didn't have a TV, not a big deal to us. We were usually quite tired from a full day of sightseeing.
WiFi was fast, password protected and included with the room.
The location was about 3-4 blocks from Dam Square. Close enough to the madness of downtown Amsterdam but quiet enough you could get away from the crowds easily.
One thing to note, if you have a 4 wheel spinner suitcase it is a fools errand trying to get from Amsterdam Centraal Station to the hotel by walking. Get a 1 hr or full day pass on the GVB, walk out the front and take tram 13 or 17 to the Westermarkt Stop, think it's maybe 2-3 stops from Amsterdam CS. That will drop you 2 blocks from the hotel.
Only downside about this location is the church bell chimes. There didn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to them, sometimes they rang every 15 minutes, sometimes every 20. If you are a very light sleeper this may trouble you. If you live in a city it'll seem like background noise to you.
There are plenty of great cafes and restaurants in the area along with nice bridges and canals to explore. (Check out Libertine Cafe around the block, great food and a very nice atmosphere)
They do use an electronic keypad system for hotel and hotel room entry. If it doesn't seem to open try turning the handle left after you pull the handle out slightly. It can be tricky. The stairs are also very steep. For those who are older or have a cane, walker, wheelchair, physical impediment this would not be a good option for you as there are no rooms on the first floor. read more
