I have found that many fancy hotels put most of their money into how the lobby looks, but the guest…read morerooms are neglected. This is not the case at all in this hotel. The entry way to the hotel is stunning with a sweeping circular staircase, which is dramatic, but perhaps a bit scary for some people. large windows and a modern appearance made for an inviting welcome. As impressed as I was with the lobby, I was more impressed with the actual room, which was spacious and actually had room to unpack and store items. I loved the wood design (see photos) and the overall appearance of the room looked very Scandinavian. As noted by other reviewers, there is a hidden closet near the bathroom (which is also a bit hidden). The door swings out to reveal a hanging closet and a couple of storage drawers). The location of the hotel is perfect because it's very near the waterfront and very close to the old city. The access to restaurants and shops is close enough that you can walk anywhere. The included breakfast buffet was excellent with an egg station that made some of the best omelets I've ever tasted. I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel.

Nestled near the Slussen metro station, the hotel offers stunning views of Gamla Stan and Riddarfjärden, making it a perfect spot for exploring Stockholm's historic charm and Södermalm's trendy scene. Check-in was smooth, with the staff warmly acknowledging my Diamond status. The room was spacious, modern, and impeccably clean, with a comfy bed and those iconic floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the waterfront. But let's talk about the design since nothing in this hotel is quite what you'd expect! Downstairs, the lobby and public areas are a maze of curves, with hardly a straight line in sight. It's like walking through a piece of modern art, which adds a fun, quirky charm to the experience. The room itself felt like a Jenga puzzle brought to life. The closets had an unusual, almost playful layout that made unpacking an adventure. The bathroom was anything but boring as its bold, unconventional design stood out with creative fixtures and a layout that kept things interesting. While the quirky aesthetics were memorable, they might not suit everyone's taste if you prefer straightforward functionality. The Diamond breakfast was a highlight, served in a bright space with a jaw-dropping view of the water and Gamla Stan. The buffet was fantastic, offering everything from fresh pastries and fruits to hot dishes and Swedish specialties like herring. The executive lounge, another great perk for those with access, was a stylish haven with tasty snacks, drinks, and that same gorgeous view. It was perfect for unwinding or catching up on work. The bar was a great spot for an evening drink, and the hotel's location made exploring nearby attractions a breeze. My only minor gripe was occasional Wi-Fi hiccups, but they didn't overshadow the stay. The gym and sauna looked nice, though I didn't get a chance to use them. For Hilton Diamond members, the breakfast and lounge perks elevate this hotel, and its bold design adds character you won't forget. The Hilton Stockholm Slussen is a fantastic choice for a unique, comfortable stay just be ready for some architectural surprises! I'd recommend it and would return, though I docked a star for the slightly impractical room layout.

The Rica Talk Hotel is located in one of the southern suburbs of Stockholm. Note that it is not (as…read moreone previous review claims) located along one of the subway lines. It is however located close to the commuter train station Alvsjo. It is around 10 minutes by train from the central station but it is worth noting that the commuter trains do not run all night (the subway does) and in winter time the commuter trains are notorious for being late. Still the location is OK. If you are going to the fair it is located in connection to that so then it is an excellent location. The hotel itself is fairly new and it has a Scandinavian feel to it with light colors. The hotel staff were all very helpful and very polite. Check-in was very efficient and they made sure to ask if I wanted the Internet password. The room was also fairly nice and had the same type of design as could be seen in the lobby. Decent size as well which is nice for those who stay longer periods. Most things are fairly standard in the room; wireless Internet, TV, desk, a few chairs, 'minibar' (or at least some snacks, drinks etc - do note that there is no fridge so the drinks are not cold), water kettle, iron (very difficult to find) etc. The bathroom was also nice, no bath tub but I only stayed for one night so no problem. The only thing that annoyed me and I am actually not sure what they were thinking was the fact that they provide soap, shower gel and conditioner but no shampoo. For me it would make sense if they did not provide conditioner but still just a minor issue. The breakfast was great. Large selection of both hot and cold food. Numerous different types of bread (and even some sweets and pastries if that is your thing). The best part was without a doubt the juice/smoothie bar where they made fresh juice and smoothies. There was also an excellent selection of different newspapers. If I would have known that the breakfast was this good I would have made sure to have some more time to spend there. To summarize the hotel is a great choice for anyone who do not mind being based a little bit outside the city. The rates are rather low when there is not a fair going on so it is possible to stay at this hotel for a fairly good price.

If you want night life there is an adjoining bar that is open well last midnight (not sure about the tired 80s music constantly being played...). Small little touches like free coffee/tea available on every floor and a container of port wine free in each room are both surprising and nice. The rooms are a little small but have all the creature comforts. Pillows are numerous and the bed is soft and comfy. Although the Victory is in the heart of Gamla Stan it is relatively quiet in the area late at night and early mornings....good sleep was in the cards for us. The breakfast is also free, and is pretty darn good! I highly recommend the Victory is you are open to something traditionally Swedish. Will come back for sure.

There is also a subway stop close-by to cut the walk by half. On our recent stay we were amazed at the friendliness of the staff and the lengths they went to ensure we had a nice stay. Our room was clean and comfortable and although the building was very old, we had some creature comforts we didn't expect. Heated towel bars in a very nice and up-to-date bathroom. Dimming accent lights so you didn't bang around the room while the mad Russian ( aka Sveta, my love) was sleeping. An evening port wine cordial set up on a tray when we returned from a full day and night of sightseeing. There is an elevator right in the lobby that will take you to your floor and allow you to see the uncountable number of nautical ships and paraphernalia on display throughout the hallways and in your room. Literature describes the family's history and tells how an obsession with collecting became the theme for the family business. Prices were very reasonable and although we arrived very early in the morning the day of our arrival, they checked us in and let us have a nap in our room hours before check-in. While visiting Stockholm, you'd be hard pressed to do better.
