This is a difficult one to rate as the hotel has both pros and cons. It wasn't so bad that I wouldn't stay here again but there are a lot of small annoyances that add up and make it difficult to give a higher rating.
Pros
The location is great, it's less than a block to a metro stop and is located in the Latin Quarter.
Staff is friendly and spoke more English than I expected
The rates were reasonable during the off season.
Although there was a size issue with the bed (see cons), the mattress was comfortable.
Cons
Although adequate, the rooms are shabbier than depicted on the hotel website.
I expected a small room and it was small but the disappointment was that it had no storage so we couldn't unpack our suitcases and stow them away leaving us with little space to maneuver or dress. There was small closet area to hang a few things but not a single drawer in the room and no where for toiletries in the bathroom.
There is not a room safe so we had to padlock items in a suitcase. When traveling in a city known for pickpockets, you don't want to have to carry all of your cash, credit cards and passport around the city.
We reserved a king bed and upon arrival, we were given two twins. It was late so the night clerk asked us to check with the manager in the morning. The manager was friendly but unfortunately their fix was to push the twins together and "convert" it to a fake king bed. It was not ideal for a couple.
The bathroom is in need of updating. It has a small shower in it rather than the large one shown in photos. The size wasn't an issue but it's a hand held shower and the holder was broken so you had to hold it the entire time. The front desk said they were aware and most rooms had that problem but there were no plans to fix it. The water would not get warmer than lukewarm most of the time. The shower had a little bit of mildew around the lower portions.
Additional info
Breakfast consists of some deli meats and cheese, yogurt, fruit and pastries.
There are several cafes and restaurants in the immediate area and a McDonalds around the corner if you can't live without American fast food. There is a small grocery store a few blocks away.
The area felt very safe and we often saw the French soldiers patrolling the area. read more
