    Rooftop bar - American bar
    Sam S.

This review is about the rooftop bar called American Bar that you enter from this restaurant. I have not eaten at this restaurant so cannot comment on the food or the service here. The rooftop bar is small but very cozy and has fantastic views of the ruins in Rome. Go there before sunset for a cocktail and watch the sun go down. It's magnificent. The bar has a decent cocktail menu. On suggestion of a local colleague I tried the Americano cocktail which is a Roman invention named after the American tourist, who seem to like this cocktail. They brought out chips and snacks for us throughout the evening and the bar tender was pretty good and made a decent cocktail. If you are looking for a rooftop bar in Rome, I would definitely recommend this one. It's classy, cozy and has an amazing view.

Black ink pasta with crustaceans and clams

I made reservations for dinner here about a week ago and I'm glad I did. As in, make a reservation if you want to eat here, but eating here is not a "must do" when in Rome. The reason being, the gripes with reservation get priority seating with the views, and this place is all about dinner with a view. Customer service- highly trained and qualified staff who cater to all your needs, making sure your glass is always full. One of the severs was Reno who was wonderful, he was friendly, well mannered, offered to take pictures of my us and and I and just very pleasant. He made the whole dinner worth it. Ask for Reno. Dinner itself- the menu offers a variety of selection including plenty of wines. They also have a chef selection tasting menu which was 75 euros. You are able to order off the tasting menu a la Carte as well. I ordered the black ink pasta which was good, but I found it to be really salty. If it went for that, it's a great dish to try. My husband got the ravioli which was delicious, but very creamy so it made us very full. I would def recommend this. We had drinks earlier upstairs in the American bar which was an experience itself. So for two dishes, two cocktails is and half A bottle of wine the bill was just over 120 euros. By all means, I think there is better food other places, and their food is good also, But keep in mind that it is all about the view.

The beautiful crepes...skip them though and have the pear cake.

We stumbled onto this place kind of by accident. What a happy accident indeed! The location is of course fantastic- we expected that part. The food however, turned out to be quite awesome. I had the Sicilian Swordfish with capers, olives, and mushrooms. That is the best fish I have had since Hawaii. Absolutely delicious! The shrimp salad- though it arrived with eyeballs... It was amazing!!! Dessert was a bit underwhelming for me. I should have went with my first choice and had the pear cake but I decided crepes would be more authentic Italian fare. Forget that---go for the pears. I had to bribe my son to get bites of his. :) it's definitely a do! Great place

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

Great first meal in Rome!…read more I loved my artichoke pasta dish with bacon, it was a daily special. The amaretto dessert was delicious! Carbonara was super al dente. Seafood risotto was fresh. Grilled radicchio was like stir fried. Dinner for 3 for 77 euros, impressively busy for a Tuesday night. Friendly staff, easy for English speakers. :)
