Overpriced, pretentious service and unacceptable food quality
We chose this restaurant for its advertised rooftop setting and views over Rome, which were indeed pleasant and one of the very few positive aspects of the experience.
Unfortunately, the overall service and atmosphere were deeply disappointing. Despite there being only a small number of occupied tables, the floor was crowded with staff. Around five to six employees were constantly hovering around, not to provide attentive service, but to display an unnecessarily arrogant and condescending attitude toward guests. One staff member appeared to be doing the actual work, while others stood around issuing instructions and asserting themselves in an unprofessional manner.
The service felt performative rather than genuinely welcoming. At times, interactions with guests came across as judgmental rather than hospitable. The overall presentation and behaviour of the staff felt excessive and outdated, adding to an atmosphere of pretension rather than refined professionalism.
The food was vastly overpriced for what was served. Simple green salads that required self-seasoning were charged at premium prices. A so-called "caviar starter" consisted mostly of leaves, with only minimal and barely noticeable traces of the advertised ingredient.
The most serious issue was the main course: swordfish priced at €37, served with frozen spinach, minimal sides, and vegetables that did not appear fresh. The fish itself was clearly spoiled, with a strong and unpleasant smell. Even after adding lemon and black pepper, it was evident that the problem was with the fish itself.
As the fish was clearly spoiled, we were unable to eat it and left the dish untouched.
After I pointed out that the fish was spoiled, it became apparent that the staff were already aware of the issue, yet chose to serve it regardless. Despite this, no apology, replacement, or price adjustment was offered, and we were charged in full.
Later in the evening, at the bar area, the tone of interaction noticeably changed only after it became clear that I was celebrating my birthday. Good service should never depend on personal disclosures or assumptions about guests -- it should be consistent, respectful, and welcoming to everyone.
For a restaurant positioning itself as upscale, this combination of poor food quality, pretentious service, and lack of accountability is unacceptable. I would strongly advise other guests to be cautious. read more
