My wife and I came across Hotel Ferrucci when doing our honeymoon planning. It's located across the Arno from the historic centre of Florence, but is reasonably close to the big sights (~25 minute walk), and closer still to the likes of Piazza Michelangelo and the Boboli Gardens.
After a harrowing cab ride through Florence proper as our driver thought we were on a different street, we arrived in one piece. Our room was fairly nice, with new-ish furnishings in both the bedroom and bathroom. There was a nice old wardrobe in the room, as well as a small table and mini-fridge. The bed was the typical two twins pushed together. Our room was right next to the lobby, but luckily there was another door that they closed at night and kept our all the noise. The wifi was decent and we didn't have any issues.
Breakfast was served downstairs, and was an additional 5 euro. There was a small but decent spread - yogurt, fruit, bite-sized ham and cheese sandwiches, hard boiled eggs, cornetti and a couple different types of cake, including chocolate cake which my wife definitely had a piece of as part of her birthday breakfast. The attendant made fresh espressos if you wished.
We tried to get some help from staff when we were trying to arrange a pick up with another hotel's airport shuttle in Rome, but it was a no go. It seemed like they would only do pick ups for people coming in on flights and not trains. Maybe it could have been sorted out if the other hotel had better English or if we knew Italian, but we really appreciated Hotel Ferrucci's attempt to translate for us.
One downfall of this place was the mediocre-at-best air conditioning. The unit by the window was old, and you couldn't adjust the old manual controls on it. There wasn't a lot of air coming out and in the middle of heat wave that had temperatures in the mid-40s Celsius, this was less than optimal. It wasn't boiling hot in the room, but it was certainly much warmer than we would have preferred.
Hotel Ferrucci could use a little polishing, but the price is great and so is the service. read more
