This hotel was amazing, small and quaint, family run. Meet the owner while in the midst of upgrades The staff was amazing, room was clean and fresh, the view from our second floor room was fabulous and breathtaking Yes, getting out the parking lot of the hotel at certain times of the day is a little hard but bring your patience with you, I just turned on my blinker an 9 times out of 10, a local would slow/stop and let you out You have to remember this is a small island and as we are there on vacation they live an work there year round There is lots to do an see.... amazing beaches, places to eat, friendly people I will defiantly go back and stay at Hotel Coral Reef Oh they have a little cafe on property too only for breakfast an early lunch

Customer Service 5/5 : the lady helping my family and I were super nice, welcoming, accommodating to our needs, gave us great information about the hotel as well as the surround areas around it. The hotel has a lot of history which is on a pamphlet they give you at check in. Hotel itself 4/5 : the hotel inside is a-little out dated but it didn't put a damper on our vacation. Every room pretty much had an ocean view. We also had a balcony so it was nice just hearing the waves from the ocean. The room had everything we needed (ex: a comfy bed, toiletries, fresh towels, mini fridge, microwave, tv, ice machine, air conditioning, etc). They also have a private pool for the Guests which can be accessed by a code, it's a beach front property so literally you are next to the beach so perfect for morning walks, etc. they even offer you bikes so you can explore around the hotel. Parking I would honestly give it a 3/5 : very limited stalls that get taken up fairly quickly. This was the only issue we had while staying here. Would I stay here again? Yes! Would I recommend this place to others? Yes! Overall review on this place.. 4/5 definitely recommend it!

The room was dirty, even beyond what I would expect from Hawaii. I noticed the toilet and bathroom floor wasn't clean when I first entered the room. The coffee maker still had used coffee inside it. I didn't make a big deal of this. The next morning I found multiple cockroaches in the room. One ran and hid squeezing into a hole next to the bathtub. There was another up along the top of the ceiling. And another was on the bathroom curtain as I was taking a shower. When I asked to be moved to a different room, the only option the manager gave me was to upgrade to a more expensive room and go back to the same room my last night or go somewhere else. I decided to leave. I hear the ocean facing rooms are better, but for the going rate, I would pay a little more and stay at the nearby Kauai Shores.

I'm beyond right now. My first night on a beautiful vacation is ruined by a disgusting hotel room. Just ruined. And when I called the after hours she just said "sorry we are sold out.:.I don't clean the room..." no ownership. I suggested she spend the night in one of their economy rooms. I read reviews. They were all great. How was I supposed to know I was basically getting a flop house room filled with stains and roaches. Thanks Hotel Coral Reef. I have not given a business one star in years. The state of this room and the response of the after hours line pushed me over the edge. I would prefer to sleep on the beach.

This really is a no frill motel. As long you don't expect Ritz Carlton you will be fine. Yes, everything is a bit outdated. We came on a down pour Christmas Eve 2019 and the whole parking lot was flooded. There's additional parking on the back behind the juice store. There's no elevator to our room on the 2nd floor with our two heavy suitcases. But the motel is perfect for walking distance to many great restaurants in the area. The grandma owner makes the most delicious banana bread every morning. They have water and tea available til I think 9pm. Although the room is small, there's a fridge and microwave for you to use. They have fluffy big beach blankets for you to borrow. We also took advantage of the free bikes and rode up and down the coastal bike paths just out in the back. If you are out and about enjoying Kauai, you won't be long in your room.

Great experience!!! Small, open and cute resort. The stuff is very helpful and hospitable. They upgraded our room without any extra cost. We could use all the facilities, including pool, ice machine and laundry. Everything was sparkling clean. Even after the check out we were able to use their space to keep our extra bags in the lobby and explore the town. They let us use their bikes. The stuff gave us some helpful information as We usually like from locals.. Beach is right infront of the hotel. We give 5* without hesitation.

We had to make last minute hotel plans so we started off at the Hotel Coral Reef with plans to end up at the Hilton using bonus points. We had such fun and a warm welcome at the Coral Reef that we stayed on and canceled our 2 free nights' stay at the Hilton! Auntie Peggy Sue makes banana bread everyday for her guests. Her laughter fills the reception area all day long. She is a treasure! Pall just started working here and is so outgoing that he makes you feel like a VIP. He can answer your questions about travel plans and tours. Peggy Sue's family all work at the hotel so this establishment embodies the true Ohana spirit. Mahalo for a great time!

We just completed a our 2nd stay at this Motel; the first was in June of 2017. The location was and remains well situated for access to restaurants and shops in Kapa'a, as well as the trail that fronts much of the coast in this area. And room comes with a free cold breakfast, with good quality baked goods daily. Beyond that it is hard to find a positive, particularly when every day and almost everywhere one looks is a huge un-maintained mess from many of the details in the room, to the grounds. Examples: stoppers in sinks either missing or not operational, burned out light bulbs, safes either not operational or not bolted to wall, shutters broken in multiple ways (looks like every room on 1st and 2nd floors), chairs cracked and worn, the dryer in the (filthy) laundry room heats up clothes but no air movement for actually drying the clothes, lose or missing knobs on furniture, varnish worn off of furniture, springs worn out in mattress, trash piled up around bicycle area, bikes rusted out and barely functional. We stayed in a period of periodic heavy rain and one evening a large swath of the parking lot flooded; the sump pump which had been rolled up and unplugged was eventually repaired and the excess water was dumped into the street. This was a very nice and freshly remodeled place when we stayed here almost 3 years ago, but it has been missing a lot of very simple maintenance along with things that have not aged well (like the furniture and JACUZZI tubs) and it is really showing. I am very unclear on what happened; our inquiry to the staff blamed the absentee owners (was not the case 3 years ago). They recently added a 3rd story to the building (which uses curtains instead of broken shutters, so being newer the issues we had with our rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors might not be as pronounced). Another issue is that the staff generally cuts corners on servicing rooms, including being very stingy with extra requests (such as additional towels). Unfortunately after this most recent experience for a week long stay, I can no longer recommend this Motel despite the excellent location.

Nice location next to Lydgate Beach park and an amazing playground area if you have little ones. Tiki Bar is pretty meh food wise, Garden Grill has a good breakfast though. Rooms are pretty spotty. First one we got was very run down but we switched to a slightly more modern one that was better. Specifically need to shout out to their employee Curt - dude is by far the best hotel employee I've ever encountered. He was amazing, helping us with our bags, then helping again to switch rooms, entertaining my 2.5 year old, giving him multiple presents for no reason and allowing him to feed the fish. He was so kind and funny and just the best. Without him, our experience would have been much less memorable.

They just encourage you to tip the valet every time. The rooms were spacious and clean. The lanai (balcony) was great also. We stayed on the 2nd floor and my kids would sit and eat outside thanks to the amazing Kauai weather. I like the filtered water dispenser machines throughout the property. We didn't have to buy water because we re-used the water bottles they gave us. There's a restaurant on the property that we did not get to try. The hotel is located on the beach also. Too bad the waves were too rough so we did not go in the water there. There are 2 pools and 1 hot tub. You can also rent free bikes to bike around the property. They even have a free text message program where you just click on the link to retrieve your car, they will get it for you while you are walking to the valet circle. Reduces time and inefficiency, great perk!! HOTEL: It is not a part of a larger hotel chain or corporation. The buildings are old and retrofitted, but honestly I am picky with hotels, and this place is great. It is on the beach, maybe not a good idea to go for a swim on that shoreline, but just being so close to the ocean is wonderful. Each room has a quiet AC unit, and a ceiling fan. They offer Kauai Coffee K-Cups to use in the Keurig in your room. Includes disposable hot cups, little creamer cups, and sugars. All rooms have mini fridges. They have a handful of kitchenette rooms if you needed a sink, bigger fridge, and microwave. All rooms have a lanai, the 1st floors have a lanai that leads directly to the lawn or pool area outside your building. There are 2 pools, 1 hot tub, and fire pit, lawn games, and beach cruiser bikes you can borrow (for free!!) to cruise around by the hotel. There are free filtered water stations around the property. There is even a free photo booth in the corner of the lobby, and it prints out 2 strips of 3 photos, so retro! The Lava Lava Restaurant is on site, and a good option. NEARBY: The hotel is also located next to Coconut Marketplace which includes a large general store (it's the same company as ABC stores) but they also have prepared foods, coffee bar, and smoothie bar. There are also restaurants over there to choose from, and small shops to browse. Just past that shopping center, there is also a Long's Drugs (aka: CVS) if you want to go for a long stroll.

We arrived early in the day so we're not able to get into our room but the staff held our luggage and recommended a few places to eat and watch football. Once able to get into our room which was on the 3rd floor looking over the pool area but far enough away from the noise. The room was quite large with a great kitchen area with granite counter tops and nice appliances. Also a large bathroom with tub and separate shower area as well as two toilets. It was a one bedroom. There was a small lanai off the bedroom and you could open the sliding door from the living room. There was also a washer/dryer in the room. The view from the room looked over the whole pool area which has a winding pool that you can walk around over to the main pool. They also had gas grills to use and many people did. One note is if you open the sliding door in the living room area and don't match up the line in the top of the doors, the air conditioning doesn't go on. We thought the air conditioning quit. After calling the front office someone came within an hour. Told us about the line. We also had an issue with the washer and after a call to the front desk a maintenance person was there within an hour. The staff we interacted with were very friendly and very helpful. Giving us recommendations for a place for fresh fish to grill. There is also a small restaurant which we tried a few nights for some drinks and appetizers. The views of the ocean are great. There are also chairs to sit on the beach area and enjoy the water. The beach is not large but very clean and nice to relax at. I wish I could give zero stars…read more Our stay started off on the wrong foot, and unfortunately, it set the tone for the rest of our trip. We checked in, and right away, the room wasn't impressive. There was a strange scent lingering in the air--like something was being covered up with multiple plug-ins. Everything felt dated: the furniture, the decor. The kitchen looked decent with updated appliances, but that was about it. We tried to brush it off and went to the pool (which looked much smaller in person than in the photos), then came back to the room. That's when the real nightmare began. My youngest daughter went to take a shower in one of the bathrooms. Moments later, I hear screaming. I run in and see sewage--yes, actual dark, smelly sewage--coming up from the shower drain. My daughter is crying, I'm shaking, and the stench is overwhelming. We immediately called the front desk, and someone was sent to "unblock" it. I begged the manager to move us to another room due to the smell and potential health hazard, and all he said was: "There are no rooms. You can check out, or stay and we'll send housekeeping." Excuse me? This isn't a spilled drink--they're talking about cleaning up sewage with a mop? I asked if they planned to professionally decontaminate the area, and the answer was no. Just their regular housekeeper. It wasn't until I was clearly desperate--three kids, nighttime, a trip we booked months ago--that they finally offered to send us to their sister hotel for one night. But we'd have to pack up, drive there, then return the next day--basically waste precious time and energy. This was a special occasion trip. We paid extra for an ocean view, and it was supposed to be an anniversary celebration. And to make things worse, nobody seemed to care. The manager responded with a condescending tone like I was overreacting. He actually said, "These things happen once in a blue moon." Okay--then have a plan for when they do! It honestly felt like he thought he was doing me a favor by offering a one-night refund or a small room at a different hotel. No real apology. No accountability. Just a lot of shrugging and gaslighting. We ended up staying, but were only refunded for one night. The second bathroom was out of commission (we didn't feel safe using it), so our whole family had to share one shower for the rest of the trip. The awful smell never fully left the room. Also--the in-unit washer and dryer? The washer smelled horrible, was full of sand, and looked like it had mold in the plastic lining. Just gross. This whole experience left a horrible taste in our mouths. I honestly don't understand how this place is being managed. If the rooms are owned by individuals and managed by this hotel group, do the owners even know how badly things are being handled? What was supposed to be a beautiful anniversary trip with our kids turned into one of the worst travel experiences we've ever had. Stay far, far away from this place!!!
