We decided to stay with friends at Dans & Lynettes famous Bed and Breakfast on Kauai. To make it short: it was awesome. The rooms are great with nice bathrooms. Outdoor showers included. The backyard and the pool: beautiful. Sometimes we decided to hang out at the pool the whole day. One day Dan came over and we picked fresh coconuts from the palm tree. For our stay at the beach, they handed out boogie boards and fins. Kila gave us the sports, playing in the garden. But beware, you will never catch her. ^^ Lynettes breakfast is amazing, with home roasted coffee, eggs, pancakes and her famous banana-syrup. She surprised us every morning inclusive a self made chocolate-espresso birthday cake. Wow. Poipu itself is the most beautiful spot on Kauai and Dan, Lynette & Kila gave us an unforgettable stay no hotel can do. Thanks so much guys! read more

Very nice place to relax. Waves are little bit tricky....do not go for swim if you are not good swimmer. My crazy kids were jumping from Shipwrecks .... great adrenaline rush for them and me as well. Our home in Kauai...we wish! If you ever need someone to take care of Kila we are available. :) We just spent an amazing week here. Lynette and Dan were wonderful hosts. Kila was the cutest, most adorable little dog ever! Breakfast every morning was delicious - eggs, potatoes, fruit, freshly baked scones, juice, and any coffee drink you can imagine. Lynette and Dan sat with us and offered sightseeing ideas - Waimea Canyon, zodiac boat tour, helicopter tour, beaches and the best shave ice among others. Only two couples are at the B & B at a time so there is plenty of privacy. The pool and hot tub in the lushly landscaped back area were perfect to start and end each day. There were private sitting areas outside for each couple and the most relaxing hammock. The lawn was sprinkled with plumerias as they feel from the tree. We brought back champagne, cheese and crackers and had the best meal one night under the stars. This was a perfect place for us. We have done the big resort thing many times and wanted something more quiet. We did walk next door (literally) to the Grand Hyatt for drinks and stayed there one night, but ended up liking the serenity of the Poipu Bay B & B so much more and for so much less. I would suggest a car. While this is in Poipu, you may not want to walk all the time. That said, we walked to the Sheraton for the luau one night and it was only about twenty minutes. The Koa Kea was our favorite place to walk for mai tais overlooking the ocean. The area is very safe and is a beautiful stroll along the coast. Merrimans, the Beach House (great for sunset dinner) and Puka Dog (fun for lunch) are very close drives away. We stayed in the bungalow room. It looked out over the back area and pool. The bathroom and shower area are large. The air conditioning was nice to have at night. The entire set up is first class. We can't wait to go back! read more

Simply paradise!! My husband and I recently got married on beautiful Kauai and were lucky enough to stay at this gorgeous B&B for 9 days. The grounds are impeccable and spa-like. It's located in a neighborhood bordering the Hyatt so we were not expecting such a beautiful, private setting. The biggest advantage for us was the privacy and freedom compared to a hotel/resort in the area. We stayed in the detached bungalow and had free reign of the pool/hot tub/backyard and had our own outdoor shower, hammock, and sitting area. Amazing!! There is an air conditioner in the room (not really necessary in April but nice to have) and we were told there was a tv if we wanted it installed, but of course we opted out. Who watches tv on Kauai, much less on their honeymoon?! :) The attached terrace suite was actually vacant for a few days during our stay so we were able to check it out. It's much more spacious than the bungalow but the smaller, more intimate bungalow actually has a larger shower, which we preferred. The bungalow was equipped with a keurig and k cups (in case you need a coffee before the 8:30 breakfast) and the mini fridge was stocked with waters and juices. The bathroom had a hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, soaps, bath and beach towels. Dan and Lynette are extremely gracious and accommodating hosts. They gave us beach chairs and snorkeling sets to use throughout our stay, and offered a ton of island tips and advice! Breakfasts were fresh and plentiful and included Dan's espresso creations. (We opted for daily lattes :) Delish.) Guests eat breakfast at a large table with the hosts and other B&B guests, so this could be a drawback for less sociable people. My wife and I stayed at this bed and breakfast just last weekend, we already miss it. It was our honeymoon and my wife found this place here on yelp, and thanks to all the helpful reviews below we where able to enjoy a great experience and meet some great people. Everything is just like in the pictures above and it truly makes it feel like your own private jungle escape. First and foremost, Dan and Lynette are great people, from there awesome breakfasts, story telling, tips on day trips, to even tips on marriage (-- I asked it was our honeymoon). There house is beautiful filled with everything you can imagine. Keyla made us miss our dog a little less as she was, cuddling, playing, and just being a great dog. Dan made us great lattes which include a story behind his design, and also provided entertaining stories throughout breakfast. Dan also takes care of his lush back yard with his green thumb, he was kind enough to use his outdoor surround sound to play some music while we dipped in the pool. Lynette is a truly amazing cook along with a great host. She makes you feel welcome, give you advice on things to do where to go and really anything you ask her. Dan and lynette balance each other out and make you feel really welcome in there beautiful home. The grounds are just beautiful makes one dream of a vacation/retirement home like this. We stayed in the bungalow and wow it was great. Dual headed shower for two, his and her sink, comfortable bed, small fridge and sink for beer of course. Not to mention all the beautiful flowers in the room, and all the garden outside. You are surround by beautiful garden all around the bungalow. We left the window open all night and you truly feel like your in the middle of nowhere so peaceful. Right out your door your greeted with a great saltwater pool with a smooth bottom and just the right temperature heated pool. Also are outdoor furniture to lay out sit and eat even a hammock and outdoor shower. Location is great right in the middle of Poipu, lots to do beaches, the hyatt, the canyon is about a hour out, waterfalls about 35 minutes, and beaches up and down the coast. We loved Kauai the island as a whole is simply paradise, we hope to make it back to visit Dan and Lynette. read more

My husband and stayed at the Poipu Bay B&B at the end of August 2012 for our honeymoon. (Lynette and Dan, sorry for the late review!) We had decided to go to Kauai, and when we were searching for a place to stay, we spent HOURS trying to find the perfect place. We looked at hotels, resorts, and B&Bs. Since it was our honeymoon, we wanted to stay in a luxurious, beautiful place. After reading the reviews for a lot of the nicer hotels and resorts on the island, we came to the conclusion that they were crowded, full of families (fine, but not ideal for a romantic honeymoon!), expensive and... without breakfast! My Italian husband LOVES American breakfast, so this was a major con for the hotels. I suggested staying in a B&B, but my then fiance' did not like the idea at first because he thought of B&Bs as kitchy and certainly not fancy enough for a honeymoon! And then he randomly stumbled upon the Poipu Bay B&B. It was love at first sight! As we looked at the pictures, it seemed too good to be true. It was very different from the other B&Bs we had seen pictures of on the island. Poipu Bay seemed beautiful, classy and luxurious - perfect for a honeymoon. We were especially enticed by the separate Bungalow, the pool and ... the breakfasts complete with lattes! When we arrived, we were not disappointed. From the moment we got there, we were welcomed with utmost hospitality by Lynette & Dan, the owners. We were in awe of the impeccably landscaped grounds. From the front, the house looks pretty, but normal. Then you take a little path around the side to the back and it opens up into a tropical paradise. The little Bungalow set a little apart from the main house has it's own entrance. It was beautifully furnished and clean complete with a Keurig coffee maker, his & hers sinks and an enormous, gorgeous stone shower with two shower heads. We could not have asked for a more luxurious room, and I am 100% sure that even if a resort we would not have had a room that nice. The Bungalow has two entrances in reality, a regular door from the path and on the other side, a sliding glass door which opened up to the pool area. Just around the corner there is an outdoor shower and a private patio complete with comfy outdoor furniture and a hammock. Dan's fabulous landscaping has created a lot of little nooks in the yard so that you feel like you have complete and total privacy. Near the pool there are also lounge chairs and umbrellas. You have free access to the pool, which was so nice. Even though other guests were staying there while we were there, we only saw them a couple of times and we had a lot more privacy than we would have had at a large hotel. And oh, the breakfasts! Every morning, we went up to the main house (also gorgeous!) where we were welcomed by Lynette, Dan and Kila (Keila? Not sure of the spelling!), their cute dog! Lynette is a fantastic cook and she prepared the most incredible breakfasts! They always included fresh tropical juice and fruit, hot, freshly baked muffins or pancakes and some type of egg dish. Some of our favorites were egg and artichoke souffles, ham and egg cups and the banana coconut muffins! Trust me, you will not find this kind of quality breakfast in a hotel. Dan would make us lattes (latte macchiatos!), entertaining us by always interpreting the unintentional "foam art" that appeared. We really enjoyed just relaxing and chatting with them every morning! We still miss those breakfasts! Finally, Dan and Lynette offered everything you might need - beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas, bug spray, plenty of toiletries, coffee in the room, ice, etc. They are some of the sweetest people you will ever meet. We have nothing but good things to say about Poipu Bay B&B and we would HIGHLY recommend it. It is also in a very good location, within walking or short driving distance to beaches and even restaurants). Sound too good to be true? It's not. It was truly the most romantic, luxurious, peaceful, private and relaxing vacation ever - and the perfect honeymoon. We could not have asked for more and we hope to return some day! read more

This bed and breakfast is a hidden gem! My husband and I were visiting Kauai for the first time and we stayed a couple days in the Princeville area (St Regis and Westin) and decided that for the south side of the island we would try something more low key and local. Upon finding this stealthy B&B on Airbnb we decided to book it for 6 nights, WOW we are so happy that we chose this retreat! Dan and Lynette are fantastic hosts, they are gracious and care about their guests. We shared our stories at breakfast and enjoyed delicious homemade breakfast that included Dan's awesome delicious lattes and his espresso beans beat Blue Bottle coffees! They have two different types of lodging, one is the bottom floor of the main house and we stayed in the detached bungalow on the property which was fantastic with its own private entrance and modern decor! The pool that they have is beautiful and private, not to mention it is a saltwater pool so you can open your eyes and not feel like they are burning through your eye sockets! The Hyatt is RIGHT next door and we were the riff raff enjoying there pool, sneaky and ninja style! The property is beautiful and lush, its as if you are a celebrity! Shipwreck beach is a 5 minute walk on a paved private walkway behind the house. They also have a very cute/friendly dog named Kila, she is absolutely the best behaved dog that I have ever encountered. If you get a chance to visit Kauai, forget the overly priced resorts and stay at the Poipu Bay B&B, it's an experience you will never forget! This was my first B&B experience and I had tremendous expectations. We recently stayed in the Pool Terrace Suite for 4 nights- I would give this 3.5 stars if I could, below is why: Pro: +Gorgeous sunny garden +Access to snorkel eqpt and beach chairs +Great water pressure in the shower +Owners are lovely people +Maximum of 4 guests at a time at this B&B- so lots of privacy when using the common areas +Very clean and relaxing in-ground pool and above ground hot tub +Comfortable bed and robes +Sound machine (you can fall asleep to the sound of the ocean) +Reliable and quiet AC +Great breakfast every morning- standouts were egg soufflé, toast with butter and pineapple jam (logic doesn't explain why it was so delicious, maybe because I was on vacation?), coconut scones, and the FRESH FRUIT +They were respectful of our dietary restrictions +Access to Maha'ulepu Trail +Quick drive to Poipu Beach Park +Pool Terrace Suite is a HUGE space +Good point to stay on the island if you plan to spend the day at the canyon- its about 30 miles away +Very comfortable patio and pool furniture, great place to nap +You have to drive through the Tree Tunnel to get here- its beautiful +Owners are coffee lovers and if you are too, you will be very happy every morning +The amenities include shampoo/conditioner and body wash in the shower- feel free to use the bug spray I left under the bathroom sink Con: -You have to park your car along the main road on Poipu Rd -It's not a quick walk to the beach- you have to loop all the way around the Hyatt -If the other room isn't being occupied you should not expect an extravagant breakfast -I missed the anonymity of a hotel -You have to provide an estimated arrival time which is hard when you are on a spontaneous vacation -Why are eggs included in every breakfast? I wanted more variety -Difficult to access the outdoor shower, you are hit in the face with some plants -Pool was too chilly for me, but then again I imagine it feels amazing on a really hot day -Its Hawaii so I shouldn't be surprised but I found bugs in the room, a beetle on my robe in the morning, a bug crawling on my leg at night. Nothing to do with cleanliness, but it just skeeved me out, certainly not luxurious -If you have an early outing, you miss out on breakfast and that's a bummer because you know it would have been delicious -In the Suite you can hear everything going on upstairs in the main house because you are attached and under their living room, although the owners said they couldn't hear us at all, it still made me feel uneasy -The closet left much to be desired, it was dingy while the rest of the Suite was perfectly set up -No extra small towels to scrub with in the shower read more

My Husband and I stayed here for 1 week for our 1 year wedding anniversary. We stayed in the detached bungalow. The pictures don't do this place justice. Everything about Dan and Lynette's property is stunning. The room itself is perfect, the outside patio area is a great place to relax, and the dual shower head in the stone shower is really great. The bed is very comfortable. I can't say this enough: it is a beautiful space. Dan and Lynette may be the nicest people I've ever met. Lynette's gourmet breakfasts each morning were worth the cost of the rooms by themselves, and Dan's lattes are legendary. They give you the perfect mix of gracious hospitality and respecting your privacy. While we were there, a tsunami warning was issued after an earthquake off the coast of Alaska. Dan and Lynette invited us up to their place, turned on the news and made us tea. We were never in any real danger but they offered to pack up their van and drive us to higher ground if we were nervous. They are such wonderful and caring people. You will feel right at home. There are two beautiful beaches within a mile, the closest being Shipwreck Beach a few hundred yards away. The sunrise from Shipwreck is stunning. The Hyatt next door has some great restaurants and features a luau. There are a myriad of fun events to do within 20 minutes of driving, so you'll never be bored. And then there is Kila, Dan and Lynette's dachshund/chihuahua mix. If you are a dog lover you will fall in love with this little princess. She is sweet and playful! We missed our small dog terribly and Kila filled a little bit of that void. All in all we loved this place and the hosts. If you want a more personal atmosphere and the feeling of staying at a friend's house instead of an isolated room in some hotel. Stay at Poipu Bay Bed and Breakfast. Dan is really funny and Lynette is the best cook ever. The rooms are beautiful and really clean. The pool is really nice and the garden is amazing. I would recommend this to 10 out of 10 people. My wife and I had the pleasure of staying here on the first leg of our Hawaiian honeymoon in October and couldn't have been happier. From day 1, Dan and Lynette made you feel right at home. Both being as genuine and kindhearted as they come. We always looked forward to Lynette's incredible breakfast spreads and Dan's famous lattes. Each breakfast varied in choices and each were equally delicious. We stayed in the bungalow which was quiet, clean and comfortable and offered great amenities. Their surrounding landscaping was beautiful and their dog Kila was adorable. Dan and Lynette would always offer great suggestions for some Hawaiian fun while staying there. Since my wife and I love snorkeling, Dan was kind enough to let us borrow his snorkeling sets in addition to anything else we thought we might need. Being conveniently located, we were never more than a short drive away from our daily destination. Should we venture back to Kaua'i, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
