The manager used a bullhorn to talk to guests standing on their verandas to update the resort's response to the debris and damage. General Manager Owen let us know that communal-use barbecues were being set up for our frozen and refrigerated food. Gas generators were set up for cell phone and digital equipment recharging. As guests left the resort, their extra food and water were placed on a table for anyone to take. The front-desk staff, operating on card tables outside the entrance, continued to answer our questions confidently and compassionately. I can only imagine how wonderful this resort is when not in emergency response mode. I'm sure - just incredible!

The resort is right next to Lawai Beach, which I personally think is one of the best snorkeling spots on the south shore. It's rocky, though, so definitely be careful getting in and out. The beach is also a great spot for surfing, and the famous Beach House Restaurant is right across the street. The resort itself is a little outdated, but it's clean, functional, and perfect for a family. Having a kitchen is essential for us when we travel with the kids, and this place gave us that home-away-from-home feeling. Another huge plus is that it's almost like an Airbnb. There were tons of beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, and floaties for the kids, which made beach days so much easier. They even left welcome snacks and coffee packets in the room for us when we arrived. Those little personal touches were really nice and made the stay feel extra welcoming. And the best part? Being able to sit on the balcony and watch the sunrise and sunset over the ocean. I could definitely get used to this.

My brother and his wife were celebrating their 20th anniversary. He surprised her by renewing their vows on Kekaha Beach and presented a beautiful diamond ring symbolizing their four kids and two decades together. She knew family and friends were joining for vacation, but had no idea the real reason we all made the trip was to be there for his surprise. While they stayed in an Airbnb, I wanted a more authentic island experience. My travel agent (who knows Kaua'i well from family trips) recommended Waimea Plantation Cottages, and we booked months ahead for what felt like a solid deal. I was pleasantly surprised by how roomy the cottage was. Like a well-equipped Airbnb, the kitchen had everything--dinnerware, serving bowls, knives, silverware, the works. The beds were extremely comfortable, and they provided plenty of pillows (I used at least four and was happy). We had three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and a beautiful covered deck with comfy chairs perfect for watching the ocean waves, plus a table for breakfast and a coffee table. Individual climate-controlled AC units in each room kept things as cool as we wanted--impressive and much appreciated. The plantation grounds were gorgeous, the weather was ideal during our early September stay (quiet with kids back in school), and we were close to the beach. I loved having the bar and restaurants right on the property. Front-desk customer service was excellent, and every staff member we encountered was friendly and professional. We arrived Thursday, September 3rd, and Thursday through Sunday were wonderful. My brother's surprise went perfectly. Then talk of a Category 5 hurricane approaching started. Many thought it would stay farther west, and Kaua'i hadn't seen a major one in 34 years. With my elderly mother with me and our cottage so close to the ocean, I was cautious. My brother's group (in a bigger second-story building even closer to the water in Kekaha) felt more confident, but by early afternoon Monday the 7th we all decided not to risk it. We booked rooms at the Sheraton at Coconut Beach on the east side--still near the ocean, but with the island between us and the storm. It proved to be a smart move; we fared much better than we would have on the west side. Thankfully, we brought all our belongings when we left (not planning to return ). The Waimea Plantation Cottages survived with quite a bit of damage but will recover. Without us even asking, they refunded a generous portion of our booking costs before we left the island--more than fair and greatly appreciated. This was just the start of some challenges, but I'll save those for another time. I plan to return and finish the vacation we started. If you have the chance to stay at Waimea Plantation Cottages, I highly recommend them. Beautiful grounds, comfortable cottages, great location, and thoughtful staff--even in the middle of an unexpected storm.

This place is beautiful, amazing, peaceful, and incredibly relaxing. In my opinion, it's even better than a "luxury" resort. It feels like you've stepped back in time to an era before technology took over, while still having all the comforts you could want. Each cottage has air conditioning, ceiling fans, and a TV, along with a full kitchen equipped with almost anything you could think of--a rice cooker, microwave, toaster, coffee maker (with coffee!), tea kettle, and even a blender. And if you choose, you can leave the screen door open and fall asleep to the sound of the waves crashing all night. It's truly a special place, and I can't wait to come back!

Got some supplies and got here around 1:30 pm. Surprise that they had our room ready for us. The lady who helped us was really nice. Check in was a breeze.thanked us for our loyalty and showed us the resort on the map. I was surprised that we were on the first floor. I usually like the top floor since you don't heard the neighbors as much. Plus when we got to the room it had rails in the bathroom which means handicapped. Which I don't like. The wife said t was fine so I didn't complain. One thing I am not to keen on is the wristband key card. Everyone knows that you are staying at the hotel which is good and bad. It identifies you right away to everyone including the locals. I always get mistaken for a local so this can be bad. So when away from the resort I put it in my pocket. The room was clean but seemed small than my other timeshares in Hawaii. We were here for only a week and just the two of us so I didn't bother. Notes about the room. The shower curtain was weak and didn't really stop the water so always water at the foot of the tub. There is only one mirror in the bathroom and no full length one in the room. The washer and dryer are a combo and take at least 3 hours for a load. You can't do 2 loads at a time. I feel like there isn't enough lighting in the room. Plus no night light to get around at night so you have to turn on a light which wakes up the wife. The resort was ok and the pool was outside our room. Pretty quiet place. No services at this pool. You had to go to the main Sheraton Resort across the street for a larger pool and food and drink service. Plus three restaurants are at that location but none at our villas. I guess they expect most people to cook in their rooms or bbq. They wanted me to do an owners update but I'm done with those. So they gave me some points and a free bag. Talked awhile with Antonio our assigned concierge who was very friendly. The beach area is very clean, not much debris in the sand. It is totally walkable. We had a great vacation and would come here again. I was on the first floor. Next time I am asking for the highest floor. I don't know why I got this floor as i never do. Too much noise from the neighbors and bugs. There was a cockroach in the dishwasher when we used it. Yuck. Plus everyone can see into your room. The higher floors are harder to see in. Much better. You can leave the curtains open and not worry like you do here . Less real light. Still a nice place to stay.

I listened to others get the standard offer to get gifts to sit thru a pitch. My room was studio 3rd floor, 44 steps to top. No kitchen, but microwave and fridge. Interesting note is that AC unit is connected to sliding door. If open, it shuts off. Patio is nice, overlooking grass area with BBQ spots and tikis. Grill equipment is in room. Main lobby has bar and restaurant. Coffee in AM and juice is early PM. Good middle spot on the island so you can go north or south when exploring. Due to (prior?) homeless issue (I had no issue), they only have ice at the main desk, also you can get other items like coffee refills there as well. Limited gift, food shop area, but there is a nearby store with all you need. We had no significant issues, other than avoiding the timeshare pitch. Nice location, clean, it is a humid location because it is near the beach and it rains regularly. There are sometimes they leave remodeling items in parking lot, which fills quickly after dark, and the outside trash can also fill quickly. Lots of chickens, which you can't avoid in the islands. I would return in the future.

She insisted that all guests go through the process to maintain the "safety and security" of the resort which was completely false and untrue. Instead of feeling the Aloha spirit we felt intimidated and unwelcomed. Aside from the timeshare aggressive pressure sales pitch from the concierge the resort was great. The units have a full kitchen, large living room, separate dining area and comfortable bedrooms. The ice maker in the freezer does not work but ice is provided at the front desk. The pool and hot tub is beautifully maintained and the grounds are groomed daily. The housekeeping and grounds staff are very helpful and friendly.

This place was recommended to us from a work colleague. Months ago my wife asked for us not to be placed in a room on the main street. Well, that just where we were placed. And it seemed like we were told to just accept it and like it. During a week's stay, we got to hear every fire truck, ambulance, etc. at any hour. Think you can enjoy a week of that for your vacation? I think I got better sleep on the plane home. We have stayed in Princeville, like 6-7 times in the past, and I think we'll go back to Princeville in the future. Honestly, I don't think I'd waste my time going back to that resort.

It was absolutely beautiful, well appointed, and had everything I needed to enjoy a comfortable stay and respite. Parking was very easy right in front of the complex. It is located within a nice easy stroll from Brennecke's Beach and Poipu Beach. The Villa itself is the most private in the complex, and surrounded by lush landscaping. The grounds are very clean, immaculate and well-maintained. Trash and recycling receptacles are well hidden but still accessible. Inside the Villa, I was greeted with a pitcher of ice-cold and refreshing fruit juice. It was so delicious, and I'm glad I was able to enjoy it throughout my stay. The 2-bedroom Villa is beautifully furnished with newer kitchen appliances, dining table and chairs, ceiling fans, air conditioners, comfortable sofa and large screen TV, a queen bed in the Master, and a king bed in the second bedroom. There's also a TV monitor in the Masters bedroom. The centerpiece for me was the Jacuzzi hot tub, located in the master bathroom; the master bathroom is not very large, but the jacuzzi tub with rainfall showerhead head was my little slice of Heaven inside the Villa. It was also equipped with BBQ grill, beach chairs, and books to read. I treated myself to an in-room Lomi Lomi massage and facial. Call Vanessa at Garden Island Massage for more information! The innkeepers were not on the premises when I arrived or throughout my stay, as they were away, but they were always very communicative and responsive. Herb especially was very gracious. Overall, I'd give my experience a solid three stars. First off, the staff was wonderful. Peggy at the front desk was the sweetest and made us feel right at home. The hotel grounds were stunning, with a beautiful pool area and lush surroundings. And those chickens? They were everywhere! A fun surprise for a first-timer like me. We had a garden-facing room on the third floor that still offered a decent ocean view. The room was a bit dated, but I loved having a little kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, and sink. Plus, the DVD rental in the lobby was a nice touch since every room has a DVD player. There were a few surprises, like no elevator, so lugging our bags up three flights was a workout. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived, but we got two free drink tickets for the Tiki Bar, which made the wait more enjoyable. However, the Wi-Fi in our room was spotty, and there wasn't much help available. Luckily, I managed to hop onto the neighbor's Wi-Fi to stream Netflix, though the local TV never worked, which was a bit of a bummer.
