Rats. Rats. Rats. Everywhere. In the beds, in the luggage, in the ceilings. I. witnessed a large run across a bed with a sleeping man in it, and then run up the wall above his bed. I lived on Kauai during Iniki and the condemned houses that we played in after the hurricane were in better shape than this place. I'm not sure how this place is even able to be open. It is disgusting and unsafe. There was a homeless man that repeatedly broke in each night we were there and stole things. The staff was very friendly but honestly, were a bunch of kids that clearly get a free place to stay if they work a little. This place is shady af. Cash only payment, no receipt. At least the bathrooms were decent.

If you're looking for an affordable place to stay, look no further! We got lucky and booked a private Queens room. It included two full size bunk beds. We stayed here because we wanted to explore Kapaa and Poipu parts of the island. If I could, I would rate it a 3.8 stars. It's quite a maze / walk just to get to the shared bathroom/showers. You would need to pass by two different dormed/open bed rooms just to pass by and quite frankly I felt so bad interrupting sleep when I needed to go use the restroom during the night. Our door doesn't easily close shut and LOUD when wanting privacy Nonetheless, the staff was extremely friendly and gave us a cool secluded recommended beach area called Donkey's Beach nearby. The community area and kitchen has all the necessities-- from kitchenware, stove, microwave, and everything. There's also the BEST view of sunrise right in front of the hostel

The Location works with dorm beds with a water view the place does get quiet at 10pm so getting sleep is possible parking is tight but made it work. Although they pack the guests in dorm areas. There are some common areas to sit and chat but all the real social interaction goes in the dorm area when people pull them selves from their devices. I still getting used co-ed hostel dorm but they work as long as I decent nights rest. I met some nice guests during my visit including a Canadian Firefighter with hopes of being and MMA competitor. Young Artist the used the term a-lase to me and I still don't understand its usage even looking for it on the urban dictionary. Kauai hostel attracts the outdoor adventure types with was fine with me My negative on the place is the bathrooms / shower set up are a bit weird with no mirrors over the sinks and simply not enough of them during peak times. I used the location again as a base camp to explore Kauai The Kitchen did look clean the staff were friendly like the guy at the desk reading the Dali Lamia at check in internet site works

I really wish I had paid more attention to the negative reviews on TripAdvisor (including the owner or manager's unprofessional replies), Yelp & Google. While I absolutely LOVED my stay Kaua'i, coming back to this hostel every night was definitely my least favorite part of the trip. PROS: - The location is great. It's close to shops, restaurants, grocery stores. - The view. Watching the sunrise every morning was amazing. - BRIAN, the nicest guy on staff - The quiet hours, which are great when you're up early. CONS: - This hostel isn't cheap. If you're travelling with someone, you might want to spend a little more and get a hotel room or an AirBnb. - The day I arrived (around 9:30 PM), the bed wasn't made. I was given sheets and a pillow case. I decided to take a shower first since I had been travelling for 22 hours and when I returned to the room, it was pitch black. Fun times trying to make your bed in the dark... Sidenote: the pillow was as flat as a pancake. - Except for Brian, who is an absolute GEM OF A HUMAN BEING, the staff wasn't the friendliest or most helpful. The first day I was there, I asked the girl at reception (one of the international staff) if she could recommend a place nearby for breakfast, which isn't an uncommon question when you work at the reception of a hostel. She just said "no". I can understand that maybe she didn't know the area or really couldn't recommend any place, but the least she could've done was to direct me to the binder of menus that was right next to her. Honestly, most of the international staff who was working there didn't seem like they cared or wanted to work, with some exceptions. After that first encounter, I only talked to Brian if I had a question or needed help. - The bathrooms look run down. They're old and dirty. And there's not enough of them. Everyone wants to use them as the same time, so you end up waiting, sometimes for a while. - Considering the fact that food is expensive in Hawaii, you can expect a lot of budget travelers to buy groceries and cook. There are only 2 fridges and 1 stove, and obviously, everyone wants to cook at the same time, which leads to a very congested kitchen... And everyone buys groceries, which means there is no room in the fridges... - The kitchen opens at 7, which means that you basically can't make anything to eat early in the morning if you're trying to head out before 7. The kitchen also closes at 9:15, which means you're out of luck if you return late and have not eaten. - I slept in the girls dorm and there are NO WALLS between the dorm and the kitchen (they literally had blinds between the two rooms), which means you hear everything going on out there. - Several people arrived and did not have the bed they had booked, so they had to sleep on a mattress that was in a corner of the room... - The door to the girl dorm's terrace was difficult to open and close, so it stayed open most of the time. There are windows all along the walls, so with the addition of the open door, it meant that some nights, it got really windy and even cold. - Anyone with a top bunk bed had zero space to put their stuff, so everyone stuff is lying around at the bottom of every bunk bed. - There are several couches and two long tables in the common area. While it's nice that there is a lot of seating, I did not feel comfortable sitting on any of the fabric couches because they looked dirty as hell. - They were supposedly renovating (the 3rd floor and terrace were closed for renovations) but I hardly saw any work happening. - Once, I encountered a couple at reception that booked a private room, which was not available somehow, so they were given a "room" with no walls (again with the blinds). When they voiced their discontent and asked for a refund so they could get a room somewhere else, they were told the hostel doesn't give refunds. The woman said if she had know how run down this hostel was, she would've never booked a room there. I feel the same way. The pictures they have on their website make it seem like a much nicer place, and it isn't. They basically don't let you cancel so you're trapped and have to stay or decide to leave without getting your money back. I'd love to go back to Kauai someday but I definitely won't be staying at this hostel.

Side door also locked. Don't want anyone coming in unless the have booked the non refundable accommodations

My thoughts on Kauai Beach House left me in disbelief that they are allowed to actually operate this disgusting place in a building that's about ready for the junk yard. You look at their web site and see this picture which must have been taken years ago. Attached pictures actually show this place in a different light. No wonder they don't offer a refund. Can't get the images out of my head. I've definitely learned why there are no refunds. Disgusting place period.

If you're looking for chill vibes with a welcoming community, this is the spot. Brian is the best and very accommodating to your needs. Loved sleeping out on the covered patio and waking up to the beautiful sunrises. Highly recommend this hostel!

We checked in, and right away, the room wasn't impressive. There was a strange scent lingering in the air--like something was being covered up with multiple plug-ins. Everything felt dated: the furniture, the decor. The kitchen looked decent with updated appliances, but that was about it. We tried to brush it off and went to the pool (which looked much smaller in person than in the photos), then came back to the room. That's when the real nightmare began. My youngest daughter went to take a shower in one of the bathrooms. Moments later, I hear screaming. I run in and see sewage--yes, actual dark, smelly sewage--coming up from the shower drain. My daughter is crying, I'm shaking, and the stench is overwhelming. We immediately called the front desk, and someone was sent to "unblock" it. I begged the manager to move us to another room due to the smell and potential health hazard, and all he said was: "There are no rooms. You can check out, or stay and we'll send housekeeping." Excuse me? This isn't a spilled drink--they're talking about cleaning up sewage with a mop? I asked if they planned to professionally decontaminate the area, and the answer was no. Just their regular housekeeper. It wasn't until I was clearly desperate--three kids, nighttime, a trip we booked months ago--that they finally offered to send us to their sister hotel for one night. But we'd have to pack up, drive there, then return the next day--basically waste precious time and energy. This was a special occasion trip. We paid extra for an ocean view, and it was supposed to be an anniversary celebration. And to make things worse, nobody seemed to care. The manager responded with a condescending tone like I was overreacting. He actually said, "These things happen once in a blue moon." Okay--then have a plan for when they do! It honestly felt like he thought he was doing me a favor by offering a one-night refund or a small room at a different hotel. No real apology. No accountability. Just a lot of shrugging and gaslighting. We ended up staying, but were only refunded for one night. The second bathroom was out of commission (we didn't feel safe using it), so our whole family had to share one shower for the rest of the trip. The awful smell never fully left the room. Also--the in-unit washer and dryer? The washer smelled horrible, was full of sand, and looked like it had mold in the plastic lining. Just gross. This whole experience left a horrible taste in our mouths. I honestly don't understand how this place is being managed. If the rooms are owned by individuals and managed by this hotel group, do the owners even know how badly things are being handled? What was supposed to be a beautiful anniversary trip with our kids turned into one of the worst travel experiences we've ever had. Stay far, far away from this place!!!

We arrived early in the day so we're not able to get into our room but the staff held our luggage and recommended a few places to eat and watch football. Once able to get into our room which was on the 3rd floor looking over the pool area but far enough away from the noise. The room was quite large with a great kitchen area with granite counter tops and nice appliances. Also a large bathroom with tub and separate shower area as well as two toilets. It was a one bedroom. There was a small lanai off the bedroom and you could open the sliding door from the living room. There was also a washer/dryer in the room. The view from the room looked over the whole pool area which has a winding pool that you can walk around over to the main pool. They also had gas grills to use and many people did. One note is if you open the sliding door in the living room area and don't match up the line in the top of the doors, the air conditioning doesn't go on. We thought the air conditioning quit. After calling the front office someone came within an hour. Told us about the line. We also had an issue with the washer and after a call to the front desk a maintenance person was there within an hour. The staff we interacted with were very friendly and very helpful. Giving us recommendations for a place for fresh fish to grill. There is also a small restaurant which we tried a few nights for some drinks and appetizers. The views of the ocean are great. There are also chairs to sit on the beach area and enjoy the water. The beach is not large but very clean and nice to relax at. Check-in took awhile, but the front desk people were super friendly and provided us a complimentary bottle of wine when they heard that we were staying for our honeymoon. Daily housekeeping is apparently not offered, but we did ask that fresh towels be provided daily. This request was hit or miss, and we often found ourselves needing to go to the front desk to ask for a change in towels the next day. The room itself is surprisingly spacious and clean, although older and dated. It was quite amazing to wake up to the sight of the beautiful Pacific Ocean right outside our patio window every morning. Although the waters on this side of the island were not protected and too rough for us to think about jumping into the ocean safely. We were told that seals and sea turtles would occasionally make their way onto the beach, however this was apparently more of a rare sighting and never materialized during our stay. We actually just wound up going to Poipu most evenings to see the sea turtles come in to rest on the beach. There is a DVD machine near the front desk where you can rent movies for free. And a Playstation in the room to watch the DVD's with. However, the dual shock controller definitely had taken a lot of abuse and would just rumble randomly whenever the power was turned on. And most of the buttons either did not work or would only work sporadically. There are no elevators here, despite the various buildings being at least 3 stories tall. We wound up having a 2nd floor room and found ourselves hauling all of our heavy luggage up multiple flights of stairs. If you are elderly or disabled, you should definitely request a 1st floor room. Additionally, they do not have any real lighting on the outdoor common areas that connect the rooms with the front foyer. Instead, there are just the small, garden solar lights stuck into the ground along the paved path. This is honestly quite a safety issue as the area is literally pitch black at night as you're either leaving the property or coming back. With only the small lights on the floor to guide your way while you hope you don't trip over any cracks or unseen objects. The hotel has a large, private parking lot that is shared with the nearby businesses on the same property lot. However despite the large amount of parking spots, we constantly found ourselves needing to circle the lot looking for a free spot whenever we returned back later at night. We suspect that some locals may be using their parking lot for temporary/long-term parking, as we did see a few vehicles that had multiple tickets on the windshield during our stay with warnings of towing due to abandonment. Despite the tickets/warnings, we did not see any of these vehicles actually towed during our entire stay here. Despite the issues outlined above, we did overall enjoy our stay here. And would recommend this property if you're looking for a slightly more affordable option than many of the high-end resorts that dot this island.

Overall, I'd give my experience a solid three stars. First off, the staff was wonderful. Peggy at the front desk was the sweetest and made us feel right at home. The hotel grounds were stunning, with a beautiful pool area and lush surroundings. And those chickens? They were everywhere! A fun surprise for a first-timer like me. We had a garden-facing room on the third floor that still offered a decent ocean view. The room was a bit dated, but I loved having a little kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, and sink. Plus, the DVD rental in the lobby was a nice touch since every room has a DVD player. There were a few surprises, like no elevator, so lugging our bags up three flights was a workout. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived, but we got two free drink tickets for the Tiki Bar, which made the wait more enjoyable. However, the Wi-Fi in our room was spotty, and there wasn't much help available. Luckily, I managed to hop onto the neighbor's Wi-Fi to stream Netflix, though the local TV never worked, which was a bit of a bummer. The early morning rooster calls were definitely new for me, but I came to appreciate them as part of the island charm. Parking was tricky if we got back late, but on the bright side, the location was fantastic. We could walk to the Coconut Marketplace, and the vouchers and coupons we received were a nice perk. Overall, despite some hiccups, the beautiful island setting and friendly service made my stay memorable.

Didn't get a message 1 week prior to checkin so was pleasantly surprised to find all comforts of home. Master bedroom was big with 2 closets. We stayed in the other bedroom with king bed and closet and bathroom just outside the bedroom door. Great set up for 2 couples or family. Wifi and TV worked perfectly. Place was clean when we arrived. It's an updated unit with island feel. It's not the Ritz but for the price and amenities we would stay again.

This place was recommended to us from a work colleague. Months ago my wife asked for us not to be placed in a room on the main street. Well, that just where we were placed. And it seemed like we were told to just accept it and like it. During a week's stay, we got to hear every fire truck, ambulance, etc. at any hour. Think you can enjoy a week of that for your vacation? I think I got better sleep on the plane home. We have stayed in Princeville, like 6-7 times in the past, and I think we'll go back to Princeville in the future. Honestly, I don't think I'd waste my time going back to that resort.

We loved our 2bedroom villa, while we had plenty of space the property itself is small enough that walking anywhere doesn't feel like a chore. Here is where we fall off and don't quite hit the 5 stars. Our villa was super clean. Toilets weren't fully cleaned upon arrival and they definitely didn't do a better job during our stay. The couch and blankets had a few mystery stains that grossed me out. Cocktails and the restaurant are insanely expensive. We are talking 28 dollars for a cocktail. Additionally the staff member Nancy (pool attendant) was rude to me. I wasn't able to locate a dry chair in the sun at 4pm. so I asked an employee for permission to use a chair near the cabana. Permission was granted but she wasn't happy about it. So asked me to move, while I didn't have issue with moving I did find it rather unprofessional of her to yell at me for not reading the sign and while she offered to help me when I asked to a dry chair on the sun she walked away ranting about my lack of awareness. To make matters worse the same employee had a separate issue with my husband in reguarda to pool towels. When I tried to address it with the front they weren't very helpful. All in all we did have a great week there and hope to go back.

It's an open restaurant with no doors and being steps from the beach it should've been breezy, especially New Year's Day. They had fans over head but were not using them. I asked if they could turn them on and the lady said she would and never did. That was horrible. Trapped heat and me do not agree. The other thing is the bathroom. It's in the hotel and when asking where it was, I was told "that way" with a point. I went that way and entered the first doors but those were the hotel rooms. I left and went in the next doors and there they were. There was no sign. The "that way" direction was not helpful besides knowing which way not to walk. I've been to a few luaus and they usually split up the different islands in dance and it's apparent. Here, I was lost. It felt rushed and the story didn't -- well ?what story? Really. It was still a wonderful night. We celebrated my son getting engaged that day. Nothing could've killed our night. There is another one on Kauai that is more authentic. I forget which one since it was in 2012 when we went but it was amazing. One thing that was very disappointing was being steps away from the beach yet no viewing of the pig being unearthed. That's a huge part of the luau experience and that was the biggest disappointment. My sister, nephew and (now) daughter-in-law had never been and we were excited for them to see it.
