While the staff is super friendly and helpful, that's unfortunately the only good thing about the hotel. The property itself looks ok from the outside but if you look closer you'll notice that pretty much everything metal is corroded or rusted (including TVs). Unlike the other Sheraton, their parking situation is much better as the lot is huge and will never fill up. The oceanfront suite is very large but full of issues: - AC unit is insufficient even on colder / cloudier days and extremely loud - To make things worse, the AC filters are filthy and looked like they haven't been changed in years (which is probably true) - The room has no carpets and the floor looks just ugly and cold (although it's not actually cold because the AC is garbage) - The shower has the most idiotic design where someone turned a great idea into a flooding situation and every time you use the shower the whole bathroom fills up with water To top it all, there are no decent restaurants on the property and pretty much all the food you can buy onsite is overpriced food court stuff. If you're on the island of Kauai and must choose one of the 2 Sheratons, definitely go with the one in Poipu.

The kitchen has modern, high quality appliances. I can only wish my fridge/freezer was this big at home. Ice maker kept with our demands. The onsite restaurant, Oasis By The Sea, had good food and fabulous drinks. Drinks poolside is hard to beat. The beach is enjoyable, but not for swimming. The pool more than makes up for that. My little one loved the kiddie area in the pool.

We arrived early in the day so we're not able to get into our room but the staff held our luggage and recommended a few places to eat and watch football. Once able to get into our room which was on the 3rd floor looking over the pool area but far enough away from the noise. The room was quite large with a great kitchen area with granite counter tops and nice appliances. Also a large bathroom with tub and separate shower area as well as two toilets. It was a one bedroom. There was a small lanai off the bedroom and you could open the sliding door from the living room. There was also a washer/dryer in the room. The view from the room looked over the whole pool area which has a winding pool that you can walk around over to the main pool. They also had gas grills to use and many people did. One note is if you open the sliding door in the living room area and don't match up the line in the top of the doors, the air conditioning doesn't go on. We thought the air conditioning quit. After calling the front office someone came within an hour. Told us about the line. We also had an issue with the washer and after a call to the front desk a maintenance person was there within an hour. The staff we interacted with were very friendly and very helpful. Giving us recommendations for a place for fresh fish to grill. There is also a small restaurant which we tried a few nights for some drinks and appetizers. The views of the ocean are great. There are also chairs to sit on the beach area and enjoy the water. The beach is not large but very clean and nice to relax at. There is a shopping center across the street to buy things for the condo. We will stay here again next time in the area.

We didn't eat at the restaurant due to cost and minimal options. Staying in this area puts you mid island with access to great beaches, but, know you are still driving every day a min of 30 minutes to get to a more desirable beach if you're looking for calmer water and the ability to snorkel. The room was fantastic and slept my family of 5 well. Well stocked for cooking. My biggest complaint was the "Mountain View" is more like a parking lot and grocery store view. Also, if you're a lite sleeper, the roosters and road noise will keep you awake. I won't miss the roster crow at 4 am.

The lobby hours are limited, like 9am-7pm which is ok but not if you run into an issue past 7pm (which we did) The front desk staff is lovely and welcoming no complaints with them at all, they are doing their best with what they have. The room was ok it was clean but dated you can tell they havent updated things in a long time. The lamp covers are dusty and the sofa in the room has lost its shape. Our room upon entering was soo hot! We turned on the ac and headed to the pool. When we got back to the room it was even hotter like a sauna the front desk sent a guy to fix it but it didnt work so they were able to move us to a different room. The new room was exactly the same but with working ac. Thankfully our friends were at the Royal Sonesta so we would spend our days over there but upon arriving back to our room on day 3 we were greeted by a puddle of water at the entrance coming from the water heater/ac closet. The front desk was closed and we're checking out the next day so we just threw towels at the puddle and were happy to be leaving the next day. All night it kept leaking we used up all the towels available. I'm sure this resort was great at one time but now its dated, sad and lonely the pool water is murky and the surrounding area is covered in chicken poop. The whole resort could use a refresh. The onsight restaurant was closed during our whole stay, it's good the resort is across the street from Safeway and lots of restaurants. I would not return!

There are few hotels in the United States that are this breathtaking in a variety of respects…read moreincluding the location, ambience, view, and the price. But it is not unexpected that a location this majestic carries a high price premium. Right from the very first steps into the entrance, you know this place is very special. This modest sized, largely open-air luxury hotel sits on the hillside with a spectacular panoramic view of Hanalei Bay and the surrounding mountains. The hotel has a very laid-back atmosphere with an emphasis on holistic health with lots of free (and paid) activities. The 10,000 sq ft gym is impressive for not that large of a property. There is an Adult Only section with infinity pool which seems to attract a younger demographic with upbeat music constantly playing in contrast to the more traditional expansive resort pool area down at the beach level. Our suite was spectacular with amazing decor and comfortable bed, although we missed not having a deck to sit on. The windows that slide open are large enough in the sitting area that you could still easily enjoy the view and sound of the ocean. The food is excellent although very expensive due to the location. I'd try to dine before dark in the evenng otherwise you're paying a premium for the view without the view. The Breakfast buffet has one of the largest varieties of dishes I've ever seen but very little seafood which might be different for Sunday Brunch.. Of interesting note, the alcoholic seltzer selection here is fantastic. Service is warm, friendly and attentive in most cases. The beach is nice but fairly modest compared to what you might see in Maui or the Kohala Coast on the Big Island. Keep in mind, this is a rainy area of Hawaii. It would be a major crap shoot for sun worshipers. Although the off and on rain and fog is quite majestic and the temperatures remain in the upper 70's making it quite comfortable for lying at the pool while not having to worry about sunscreen on the cloudy days. Our bathroom door in our suite was sticky trying to slide open and close which seemed odd for this level of resort, but it was a minor nuisance. For those with a relaxed budget looking for a truly spectacular location in Hawaii, rain or shine at Mother Nature's whim, this should go on your bucket list. Especially if you are into the "fitness / clean" lifestyle but you can also get your fulfillment of things like pizza, burgers, and great drinks if you so desire.

When you check-in, they will take a credit card for incidentals and charge about $18/day resort fee on top of other costs. Then they will direct you across to the concierge/1st timeshare contact to get first sales pitch. You can skip and just leave after getting key. I listened to others get the standard offer to get gifts to sit thru a pitch. My room was studio 3rd floor, 44 steps to top. No kitchen, but microwave and fridge. Interesting note is that AC unit is connected to sliding door. If open, it shuts off. Patio is nice, overlooking grass area with BBQ spots and tikis. Grill equipment is in room. Main lobby has bar and restaurant. Coffee in AM and juice is early PM. Good middle spot on the island so you can go north or south when exploring. Due to (prior?) homeless issue (I had no issue), they only have ice at the main desk, also you can get other items like coffee refills there as well. Limited gift, food shop area, but there is a nearby store with all you need. We had no significant issues, other than avoiding the timeshare pitch. Nice location, clean, it is a humid location because it is near the beach and it rains regularly. There are sometimes they leave remodeling items in parking lot, which fills quickly after dark, and the outside trash can also fill quickly. Lots of chickens, which you can't avoid in the islands. I would return in the future.

She insisted that all guests go through the process to maintain the "safety and security" of the resort which was completely false and untrue. Instead of feeling the Aloha spirit we felt intimidated and unwelcomed. Aside from the timeshare aggressive pressure sales pitch from the concierge the resort was great. The units have a full kitchen, large living room, separate dining area and comfortable bedrooms. The ice maker in the freezer does not work but ice is provided at the front desk. The pool and hot tub is beautifully maintained and the grounds are groomed daily. The housekeeping and grounds staff are very helpful and friendly.
