Caked on soap scum on lavatory
Kirk K.

The only reason this is not a one star rating is that the staff is very friendly. I got to the hotel and was checked in. No problem, went to my room. The room was serviced, so I dropped off my bags and went to town. Later that night I came back and go ready for bed. Then the trouble started. The sink in the bathroom had caked on soap stains, there was a drop of blood on the floor of the bathroom by the toilet. When I tuned on the shower faucet, in the valley with chronic water shortages, I noticed it took a long time to heat up. In fact, the next morning I measured 2 and 1.2 minutes to warm up if one turned on the bathroom sink faucet as well. The shower floor is incredibly slick and I nearly slipped several times. The door was the typical auto-close hotel door with the added "advantage" of not quite closing enough to latch. This means that if the guest does not physically pull the door shut, it only looks latched. I have made and posted videos and pictures for all of this. When I came back on the second day there, and it was time for bed, I pulled down the comforter. I was taken aback to see that their method of Making a bed is simply to pull the comforter up over the rest of the bed without touching the sheets. Again I have posted a video. Their literature said "Newest Boutique Hotel" but this is hardly of that caliber. The price was excessive for service of this level. I expected much better.

The hotel location is good but overall a pretty straightforward, not too fancy hotel. The rooms seem updated and very well cleaned.

However, also in a highly attractive area for the homeless, and I don't mean as a place to beg.

One night while I was at the bar, Victor, the manager I often see there, told me about the Christmas experience on the rooftop and suggested it as a great spot for a birthday get-together. He was absolutely right. The rooftop at the Valencia Hotel was perfect. It felt like a true winter wonderland. It was beautifully decorated, cozy, and festive. There were specialty Christmas cocktails, delicious hors d'oeuvres, and even whiskey tastings where you could sample different varieties. They had heaters everywhere and plenty of blankets, which made the whole experience warm and inviting despite the chilly weather. The service really stood out. The staff on the rooftop was just awesome. They were attentive, kind, and consistently checking in on us to make sure we had everything we needed. My friends had an amazing time ordering from the holiday menu (whether custom-created or seasonal, it was spot-on), and the overall vibe spot was a vibe! This was truly one of the best experiences I've had in a long time, and it made my birthday feel special without being stressful. Huge thanks to Victor and the entire rooftop team for creating such a memorable night. I'll absolutely be back--and recommending this place to everyone.

We were told check in was at 3 pm, by 3:30 we still did not have a room but had a fussy baby who needed to nap. They were finally able to get us into a clean room by 4 pm. We dined at the Fountain Restaurant two mornings in a row, if the hotel knows there is an event happening during a weekend, I would hope they would plan in advance to provide enough employees to cover the breakfast rush. These employees were clearly overwhelmed and frustrated in their situation, as were the patrons. It took forever for tables to be turned, orders to be placed and food to be delivered. I felt we were patient with the staff, but two of the women we interacted with were short and annoyed with the guests. As far as the room, it was basic, but pretty spacious which was welcome with the pack and play provided for our toddler. Blackout curtains worked wonderfully for his sleep which was a big pro, and our bed was comfortable. I was a bit confused why there was a toilet flushing mechanism like those found in a public restroom as opposed to a bedroom bathroom (no handle). When anyone showered, water would leak out from the side onto the floor causing puddles.

The self parking was okay. We checked in before finding parking and we used the room key to enter the parking lot instead of paying for parking. The elevators were pretty cool and unique as it's a digital tablet where you can preselect which floor you need to go to before entering the elevator. This is where things start to go down hill for me... I was woken up around 3am from a lot of people in the hallway talking. Sounded like they were going up and down the hallway. Not sure that the noise was for but it was going on for about 30 minutes. I was woken up again around 4am but people banging on a door nearby for 15 minutes. And to think that was the last of it, I was woke up AGAIN at 5am with continuous knocking and opening/closing of doors for about 30 minutes. Very unfortunate that occurred throughout the night but definitely ruined my experience here as I woke up with a headache due to lack of sleep. Not sure if I'd want to come back again.

Service seemed fine, although I noticed when we walked towards the breakfast area the two staff members standing at check-in were kind of glaring at us for a good couple of seconds and I just said, "Good morning!" and then they responded with the likes...just seemed like they were bored or didn't want to be there. I was greeted by a very friendly and capable pair, Diane & Diane who were more than happy to tell me about the hotel. Usually, at other hotels, I am greeted by a very blank faced reception with minimal conversation, so this was a very nice change. The room was fantastic with a complete kitchen and very nice living room with a wall mounted TV. The bed had a great mattress and for once, I didn't wake up to a sore body from a typical hotel bed. They have free happy hour and tea time to go along with a nice breakfast. This was a 5 for 5 stay and the only bad thing I can say is I wish I came here long before this visit. I just hope we don't happen to stay with a bunch of sports families again bc it was a bit stressful for me being around that community. I think the hotel staff should've tried to place all the non-sports-team customers far far away from those customers that came all together, to avoid the noise issue. I did not rest well. Gym was clean. Pool was small but nice for kids to play around in. Hotel was a bit older but everything was in good condition. Breakfast buffet had a great selection.

We have not had the need to pay for parking at any of the other Hyatt houses and Hyatt places before. Silly, I thought. The plaza had cautionary signs about car break ins and safety every 20 feet.
