Hotel is located in a sketchy area of Baltimore. Was hard to find with GPS. And only 4 parking spaces are available on street if not taken. If taken, you will need to park at one of the local pay lots but be cautious walking to and from hotel given the local riff raff. Check in was fine. Room was clean except the couch seemed dirty. There was no toilet paper in bathroom and had to go back to "reception" to get some. Drain in bathroom would not work initially and had to fix on our own as receptionist had no clue how to repair. Come to night time, beware as the hotel is right next to a bar called "Leons" that stays open late and is very loud after midnight. Music was blaring every time their door opened around 1am. Also attracts local gang bangers that park out front in their SUVs also blaring loud music with no consideration to the neighbors or hotel guests. Went on till 230am at least. While this hotel is a historic site that should add to its "charm" in "charm city" and reasonably priced, I d rather pay extra and feel safe and have a good nights sleep elsewhere. Beware. read more

After being gone from our hotel room all day (08/20/2022), we returned to find 2 credit cards and a phone were stolen from the room. When we asked management to review the Ring doorbell footage, they said on site management claimed no one entered the room even though there were over $800 worth of charges on the stolen cards before we left Baltimore. The issue was never resolved and even though the police were involved we couldn't press any charges because the value of what was stolen would have required and on site investigation. read more

Found this hotel on Airbnb for a two day stay in MD. The total for two nights was around $405. The hotel was alright. We were excited because it looked historic and cute and was a good location. However, the elevator talked a million years, you can hear the people around you, the tv didn't connect to WiFi and anyone could get in the front door. There also was only six parking spots right outside the building. The room was a decent size and the bathroom was large and stocked with toiletries. What a shame. It's a beautiful old building but the management is awful. Also a friend stayed there, at my recommendation (yikes!) and found a USED condom and lingerie on the bed when she arrived. She sent me a photo so I can attest she wasn't exaggerating. That's a health hazard as well as absolutely gross. The first time I went I had a decent stay, despite the lack of a front desk (so no help if you need an extra blanket, etc). But the second time I planned to stay I had a problem and needed to change something about my reservation. The manager was COMPLETELY unhelpful and refused to make any changes despite 24 hrs notice. My boyfriend and I stayed here for our one night visit, and had a great time. We absolutely loved the big open windows! Granted there was not much of a view besides the gay bar across the street, but it gave us plenty of natural light during the day. Front desk is friendly and offers sound advice on where to explore. The location is sort of away from all the chaos of inner harbor which wasn't bad for us either. It is only a mile away. You can access the free trolley from here to take you down to inner harbor too. That is only a couple of blocks away for you to hop on if you choose not to drive. Hotel Brexton has only 29 rooms. I don't know if you would really consider this a boutique hotel even though it is not part of a chain. I would think it has its own little identity. It is not super upscale, but it is not low quality by any means. It is a simple place. The rooms are designed with a modern touch in a restored historical building. I think my biggest complaint was the noise level. You can't here anyone in the building itself, but conversation outside can be heard clear as day. I think it was primarily because of where our window was situation as previously mentioned and being on the 3rd floor. Though I should point out that noise we did here was only brief and it didn't last long. Otherwise, it was very quiet and relaxing. Price is reasonable. You can get some deals if you look on some the exterior hotel booking websites versus booking direct. Just be warned though if you do book from a third party, you won't be able to refund your money like you could if you did book directly with the hotel. Rates may be different though with one compared to the other per usual. Breakfast consists of bagels, select cereals, and fruit served from 7am-10am daily, respectively. Nothing hot. Breakfast is found on the bottom floor with a small kitchen area. You win some you lose some. Here is a total win if you like something unique and different. read more

This is a very nice and dainty hotel! It was built in 1810, but remodeled in 2010 from the interior. My husband and I loved the look of it, although the restroom is too damn cold to shower in this time of year lol! It seems like there is cold air going into the restroom area instead of warm. We loved the convenience of the location. About two miles from the harbor ($5-8 lyft cost) and another two miles to own station The bed was also tiny! It did not look like a queen size, more like a full size mattress. My husband is 6'1" and I am 5'6", so we were quite uncomfortable, but we made it work. If we were to come back to Baltimore, we would definitely stay at the hotel again, but request a king size bed. Staff was amazing and extremely nice! It's a historic hotel and it looks lovely on the outside. However, it is too small for me to be able to like it. The elevator could barely fit two people. The halls are narrow. The bathroom is so small you cannot turn around in it. A person with disabilities or an older person with mobility problems would hate this place. I don't think a wheelchair can fit into the elevator and there are lots of stairs everywhere. I think the limit of space made the updating of the inside challenging. The room had a noisy A/C unit located above the door to the hallway. Closets are not in the wall but cabinets that take up space in the room that I would have appreciated having. The bed was comfortable and my room was quiet. Parking is a challenge. Another resident was complaining bitterly to me. I paid $25 for one of two slots on the side street, which was very odd and very cramped. The street is tough to find at night. Lots of hidden fees and nothing is given away for free. read more

It's a really small hotel with only 29 rooms. We were in a king room. Room is spacious and so is the bathroom. There is a coffee maker, but no fridge or microwave (there is a microwave in the basement). Everything was clean, we felt really comfortable. We paid 91$ for a king room in January, breakfast included. They put a 50$ hold on the credit card. We got it back in a week, but didn't like that. I read that some people paid for the wifi, but they gave us the password with no extra charge. There is a free parking in front of the hotel, but it's limited. The breakfast is served in the basement area. Bagels, cereals, yogurt, some fruits, basic stuff. There is a coffee machine available at all times. Cappuccino, espresso, french vanilla, hot chocolate... A lot of options, all the good stuff. Overall, we were happy with our stay in Hotel Brexton, would definitely recommend. read more

What a beautiful and relaxing stay. My husband and I came here for a nice Valentines Day getaway and I am so happy that we did. Check in: the process was so smooth and the staff was more than willing to share information. Rooms: Perfect size with a mini refrigerator and all the amenities. They even had a spa like bathroom room with the best smelling shampoos and body wash. Breakfast: They had a nice kitchen that offered bagels, fruit, cereal, and a variety of coffee. I paid $125.99/night for a Wed-Sat in late October. Pros: The room was clean and the bed and bedding was comfortable. There was very little noise from outside or from other guests. The building has been beautifully restored. Cons: cheap Ikea furniture -- the lamp was falling apart, the veneer surface on the nightstands was blistered and peeling, etc. Room smelled of bleach because of the 'bleach bomb' in the toilet. Why does a toilet cleaned everyday need a tank bomb? There are towels for two, but only one coffee cup and one drinking glass. The property is handicap accessible, but to get to the ramp, you go through the dining area on the lower level, not the lobby. For my disabled father, it felt like going through a service entrance. I'm finding that poor handicap access is the norm all over, though. They advertise 'Wine and Cheese Receptions', but it turns out only on Wednesday. The confirmation email said there was free bottled water, but the bottles had big price tags on them. No newspaper (website says there is). Not that I care that much, its just that they mislead on these little details. The breakfast was fine, but not as fancy as their menu makes it sound; basic fruit and store-brand breads and cereal. Street parking is scarce, so you will probably have to pay $25 extra for one of their reserved spots around the corner. They charge $20 for internet. The really annoying thing is the $50 per night 'block' they put on your credit card when you check in. Not for incidentals, and not a new $50 block a day either; a full $400 block on my card. I hear this is common practice in Las Vegas, but at a boutique hotel in Baltimore? Am I wrong? Do many hotels do this (i.e. via taking your cc number for incidentals) and I just never noticed? In any case, the message it sends is, "Although you (pre) paid for your stay through hotels.com, we still think you might trash the room." When I registered my displeasure, the hotel clerk was condescending, and told me is was standard procedure. It was insulting. Pros: LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! everything (and I mean everything) you could want or need is near -- drug store to 7-11 to fancy brunch to dive bar to bespoke sex toys to free Inner Harbor bus. Also steps from Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and a quick cabride from the Amtrak Station. Latenight munchies are are within (drunk) walking distance. Easy parking right out front. Keurig Machine in the room. SUPER CHEAP BARGAIN. The room itself was light and roomy. no funny smells. Bathroom was modern and shiny w/ fluffy towels. Bedding was a solid B+ and the lighting was better than average. Super nice staff, free quicky breakfast. Cons: Some of the furniture was unfortunate. no restaurant. The TV required an MIT degree to understand. Thankfully, my traveling companion fit the bill. read more

Stayed here this past weekend. Got a great deal through Hotwire. The hotel itself is beautiful and nicely designed on the outside. The renovated rooms are nice, a solid 3 stars. I find our room on the 2nd floor to be spacious and comfortable, bathroom is simple and nice, but I did wish the shower was bigger, or may be a tub. Parking is a challenge if you choose to do street parking, but I opted for the reserved parking which guaranteed me a spot, that was nice. The area itself is quiet, but like a lot of parts in Baltimore, there are some questionable characters roaming around especially late at night. There is a Rite Aid and a 7-11 that you could walk to (within a block or two), so that was very convenient. The hotel is about 3 miles from inner harbor so it's rather nice to be away from all of that. I checked out the continental breakfast, but chose to go to The Bun Shop down the street instead as they had some great coffee and tea, as well as pastries, and they're open 7am-3am. read more

The hotel is architecturally stunning! I am glad that someone decided to save it! The stairs, windows (original features) are all amazing! That being said, there are some areas that they could grow, a bit. They market themselves as a boutique hotel and a historic hotel, as it is historic. But, some of the historic charm is lost, as they must not have been able to salvage the hardwoods, and covered them with laminate floors. They look out of place, as they are too wide of planks for the time. The rooms also have a very oversized couch, which seem too large for a small space. Maybe a more apartment size/loveseat would be better. Then, the fridge is just sitting on it's own, next to it. Maybe a cabinet to put it in? The bathrooms are small, but functional. For the period and location, of course things will be a bit smaller. Last thing was their continental breakfast is pretty lacking. It was tiny area with a coffee/latte machine (which is nice), but don't expect any hot items (eggs, bacon). They only have bagels, cereal, and yogurt (None of which work for someone who can't have dairy or gluten). The staff all seemed friendly, the evening staff was completely oblivious to anything in the area. We asked her a question, and she said she lived far away, and didn't really know Baltimore. The day staff seemed much more knowledgeable and helpful. Our room was a bit different from the photos, but not bad. The photos show more of the canopy beds, etc. We ended up with the typical hotel headboard, which is not bad. I just think the rooms could be a bit more polished with more of a vintage/character style furnishings. They also retrofitted A/C units above the doors, which must have had some condensation issues, they had a metal plate to catch it, but apparently it was not always there, as the wall had some bubbling and peeling beside the door, which should be touched up. The stairs and architecture are memorable, but the room was not as much. Really, the vintage charm that was still present was what boosts their rating and made it more memorable for me! The only reason this isn't a "0" rating is because I can't select one. Let's start with the big things. The room (602) smells like someone urinated heavily on the carpet. The AC unit is right over the bed with a shelf under it holding an open drip pan to catch the condensation. It was overflowing onto the mattress and the mattress and bedding was wet. When we called the front desk, the response was literally "I'm not sure there's anything we can do to help you." We addressed the problem ourselves which included using bath towels to absorb the overflow. When we called the front desk for additional towels, no one would pick up. The room was also a security risk. Our swipe key didn't work initially so I went down to the front desk to have it re-keyed. The front desk attendant apologized for her mistake because "your room needs to be keyed for room 601." When I asked if room 601 could access my room, she said "yes, but I'm sure they won't try." Parking is also a major issue. There are 6 street spots for guests; if you don't get there in time for this, you pay $25 a night to pay metered parking across the street. Now to the less major issues. The room has a Keurig but no Keurig supplies. There is no way to latch the door from the inside (note aforementioned security issue). There is no "Do Not Disturb" sign to hang on the door. There is no clock in the room. There is no air conditioning in common areas (don't let the presence of AC units fool you; they're blowing ambient air). The continental breakfast is in a poorly lit warm and humid room on the lower level next to the laundry. The selection of food is minimal and the toaster oven provided is a science project to get working. If you're planning on staying here, don't just consider this review. Look at other reviews from objective sources and note the commonality in the critiques. read more

Tried for three months to book with our LivingSocial and even said we would pay more for their "premium" room and not only did it end with a null response but we returned our LivingSocial deal which involved them calling the hotel and confirming that they would not let us book. We read up and there was a complaint about the same thing. The owner even told us he was tired of dealing with the LivingSocial people of which whom he signed up with in the first place. I was very frustrated even after offering to pay extra. The owner said it would be %50 a night more and we agreed and when we tried to book with that he wouldn't let us book even then after we agreed to the extra money for the "premium" room. I give the Braxton five stars because it is what it claims to be... a charming hotel in an old building that is loaded with character. No, it is not a Marriott with state of the art rooms, and that is a positive for me. The hotel appears to be a labor of love by the owners and it shows. It is charming, exquisite, and delightful. Yes, I could hear plumbing from above and some sounds from other rooms, but not enough to be distracting or in any way unpleasant. The next time I go to Baltimore, I will stay at the Brexton again. The price is right and it The Hotel is within walking distance of so much. I would not plan on making a meal of the continental breakfast and perhaps plan on eating breakfast elsewhere. But it is fine for coffee and juice and the kitchen where breakfast is placed is cute and a nice place to sit. read more

LivingSocial customers are not the only ones Hotel Brexton refuses to accommodate. Having purchased tickets to see Louis C.K. at nearby Meyerhoff Symphony Hall on New Year's Eve, I booked a room for two via www.hotels.com six months in advance. I received an e-mail confirmation immediately after, and another on Thursday, December 27 (this one saying explicitly, "You don't need to call to reconfirm.") When we showed up on what was supposed to be the night of our stay, we were told that they'd had some "unexpected overstays," and that they'd instead booked me a place at a Doubletree hotel two miles away, and relatively removed from any bars, restaurants, stores, or anything else of note. I should note here that we were lied to about how far away the Doubletree was, and also about the circumstances of our relocation: the hotel manager tried to get in touch with us repeatedly, it was claimed; our phone and e-mail records tell a different story. The whole point of our reserving a room at Hotel Brexton was that it was within walking distance of the show we'd already paid to see. Instead, we had to waste money (not to mention compete fiercely with hordes of other fares -- it was New Year's) to take cabs from place to place. A minor inconvenience, certainly -- but that's not the point. If a reservation made so far in advance is treated with the same disdain as LivingSocial customers apparently are, then whose reservations are secure, exactly? Unacceptable. Avoid. read more

When planning my trip to Baltimore, I was torn between staying at a big name chain hotel, or Hotel Brexton. I'm so glad I made the right choice by staying in this unique and adorable hotel, in a beautiful and historic building. The neighborhood is quiet but charming, and there is plenty to do within walking distance or picking up the free bus that takes you right to Inner Harbor. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly throughout our stay, and we had no complaints about our room (seriously, who cares if the furniture is "cheap"). If you are looking for something with a little more charm and character than the big name hotels that are the same in every city, I recommend staying at Hotel Brexton! read more

Charming boutique hotel in the heart of Mount Vernon. As a Baltimorean looking for a place to stay for a few days while a condo was being renovating, I stumbled upon the Hotel Brexton doing a quick internet search. The hotel is in a historic building, in a great location and reasonably priced. I paid $119 for a weekend and $125 for the weekend, including breakfast. The price included on-street parking in front of the building. Our room, on the fourth floor was quite large, with a spacious bathroom (in the turrett section of the building which provided great angles). It's walking distance to the City Cafe and neighborhood bars - with a Starbucks a few blocks away. Would absolutely reccomend to any out-of-town guests - or even for a hometown stay-cation. read more

Staying in the hotel Brexton tonight. Unfortunately I think I had a guest below me that was unreasonable. I ordered a pizza for my wife and I. When the front desk called me they let me know my food was here,and we had a noise complaint for a lot of noise from the room below. The only thing I can think of is when I moved my suitcase from the bed to floor(which I admit banged loudly) that was all,one bang. I really can't believe I got a complaint. If anyone had came up to listen they would have maybe heard our TV on,that was all. The hotel is nice,and the girl at the desk was nice but that was all, one noise. The front desk should really check out these claims of noise to see if it's happening,before they confront a guest. I wasnt even in the same state to be able to use it. When I told the customer service rep that I did not approve of the charges he informed me that I would need to take the issue up with my credit card company...can you believe that? We stayed at the Hotel Brexton for one night while visiting family in the area. To decide whether this is a good hotel for you, you should understand what the Brexton is and what it is not. If you are looking for a clean, spacious, decently priced room in a convenient, but less touristy area, the Brexton is a good choice. If you are looking for a luxury hotel experience with plenty of amenities, or need a hotel with large public areas or want to be in the center of the city's activity, you will probably be disappointed. We paid for the internet and parking package. The hotel has 4 spaces in front that are first-come-first-served, and 4 in an adjacent courtyard that are reserved for those choosing the parking package. We found it worth the extra $30 for the peace of mind of having a space waiting for us at night (plus included internet, which is otherwise $10). The building is old, but quirky and charming. It has been nicely renovated and is clean and well kept. Our room on the 5th floor was oddly shaped in an interesting way, but spacious and spotless. The large bathroom was updated. The bed was extremely comfortable. There was a well placed flat screen tv hanging from the ceiling. Service was friendly. We skipped the provided continental breakfast and the staff at the front desk recommended a nearby restaurant where we could get a full breakfast. My stay at the Hotel Brexton was pleasant. My bf and I arrived late, around 2am, and check-in was no problem. The meters out front are free on the weekends, so no need to worry about searching for parking or if the lot is full. The complimentary coffee and continental breakfast in the morning was definitely appreciated. Two things to note though. We were staying on the 1st floor and since the hotel is an old townhouse, the noise abatement between the walls and the floors above has something to be desired. We could hear guests moving around as early as 6:30am. Also, there is no central air and the air conditioner in our room was not very powerful. The room was a little stuffy. Awesome place. Rooms are immaculate and it's in a great area of town. First time staying in Baltimore and so glad I picked this place. Staff are very friendly. Don't be put off by outside it's an historic building. Once inside you can see that the owners have put an lot of money into this place.
