We had an excellent experience here. The food is priced great, so we ordered a few items. I had the chicken lo Mein and it was absolutely wonderful! I had some extra left over that I ate later in the day. My wife had the fried rice and she enjoyed it too. The shrimp was the star of the fried rice as it was cooked perfect and was delicious. We also got some eggrolls and Rangoon. Those were absolutely delicious! Overall a wonderful experience here! read more

The food is a notch above average for a Chinese restaurant of its type and the prices are a notch lower, especially when compared to what you'd pay for similar food in a bigger city. What's not to like about that? My order of curry chicken included a nice variety of vegetables and just the right amount of sauce - unlike some places where you'll get mostly onions and a sea of goopy sauce. The pork fried rice that came with the combo meal was moist and had a nice flavor of Chinese BBQ style pork, again better than what I might expect. On another visit the "Four Seasons" dish also offered a good variety of vegetables, generous meat (including plump shrimp) and just the right amount of sauce. I can imagine finding some more pleasant surprises on the menu that could edge me up to a full five stars here. Take out only Chinese food. The food and service are okay for the price and you'll probably be fine with it as long as you manage expectations. The portions are large, but mostly rice or veggies. The "fried rice" resembles Spanish rice more than actual fried rice which is disappointing as it's a very simple and quick dish to prepare. Small gem of a Chinese restaurant in Lumberton outside of Walmart parking lot. My sister and I were in the area and decided to go try it out. The place is small but was decent, granted neither of us used the restroom so about that I am not sure. We placed our orders for dinner specials that come with pork fried rice and an egg roll. I had the General Tao's Chicken and she had Sweet and Sour Chicken, both of our dishes were delicious. I would recommend to anyone who likes Chinese food. read more

When we lived in Lumberton this place was my go to for take out. They have the best egg foo yung in the area. I also enjoy the fried wontons, egg rolls, and sweet and sour chicken. We love the buffet, although very small, the food is fresh. The hot an sour soup is also a must have. I started going to Hot Wok when this place first opened maybe 8 years ago or so. Truly, I'm surprised that this place is still in business, especially given how many other businesses in this small shopping center in the Wal-Mart parking lot open and close in a very quick amount of time. In high school, this place was the first Chinese or Asian food in general in Hardin County to open up for us, so it was very welcome. I'd go here frequently with pals and always enjoyed it until one time when I attempted to eat a combo meal that came with a standard fried rice. I think it must have been tiny cubed pork pieces, but whatever it was, I found disgusting. And I just went here a few weeks ago with family and they still serve that standard recipe, so while it doesn't work for me, it must be working in general. Their buffet is right at or maybe less than $5 per person at lunch, but only has about 10 tins of food, not a large buffet like many of the Chinese restaurants in Southeast Texas. It had small cream cheese wontons, sesame chicken, fried rice, and some other standard items. After the bad experience with fried rice, I've stuck to ordering the appetizer order of wontons, which has for many years cost me only $4.60 for I think 5 or 6 large cream cheese wontons and a big side order of delicious, bright red sweet and sour sauce. Despite occasionally needing that fried goodness, I have *serious* concerns about the cleanliness of this place. It stinks. Big time. There are flies everywhere, the kitchen visibly looks disgusting, the bathroom is right next to the counter, the chairs are filthy, just not a place that I want to be in. Maybe the place scores okay with the health department, but I strongly recommend that if you can stomach the food, you take it to go. read more

I have been eating here since the age of 17; at that age I didn't care for anything but general tso's chicken. Since then I've realized that there are countless, excellent dishes in ethnic food of this nature that are not served in this establishment. That being said, they are on the smaller scale of Chinese restaurants, yet pull it off quite well! They NAIL the food they do serve & supply a very large quantity/quality of it. Aside from the lacking menu - it's still an excellent place to go for the basic traditional Chinese & leaving satisfied with leftovers. Look, I'm not sure why Hot Wok gets such a bad rap, because I have honestly never had something from there I didn't love. And I have eaten a ton of Chinese food in my day lol. The place is not fancy by any means but they make most everything to order, it's so good it is literally my comfort food for when I've had a crappy week. My fav is the pepper chicken and hot and sour soup (love that when I'm sick). Buffet is super cheap, like $5. There's not a lot to choose from on it because this place is sort of a hole in the wall, but the food on it is good! I hear they have gotten some bad health inspections in the past but they must be doing something right because there are always people in there waiting for food. Helpings are VERY large and prices are cheap as well. Husband and I can eat 2-3 times on $30 worth of takeout. Free sodas if you spend over like $20 also. read more
