Do you enjoy shopping at boutiques? Do you like supporting…read moreindependent artists and unique designs? Do you like buying cool gifts for loved ones? If you have answered "yes" to all of these questions then I recommend visiting the Montavilla neighborhood in SE Portland to check out Union Rose! Here there are many local designers and artists which create unique gifts and clothing (from men, women to children). Union Rose lives and breathes the "Portlandia" vibe and is highly recommended if you're looking for something along these lines. I recently purchased a turquoise-white dandelion-imaged tie for my brother's birthday and he was blown away by how "awesome" it was. The owner of Union Rose is also a designer herself and currently has about 20-30 independent designers who sell their cool crafts at her boutique. If you're ever in the area, check this place out. You probably won't go empty-handed.

I had a friendly employee guide me to an open fitting room, but once I got to the register (with a different employee) she had hardly said a word to me. I don't think I did anything to warrant a no-talking experience over the counter. Maybe she thought I wasn't the right size to be shopping there, I don't know. She just seemed really talkative to the customer ahead of me in line and fell silent when it was my turn to be rung up. I left happy with my purchase but that interaction just made me feel defeated. I know how it feels when someone thinks you don't belong somewhere. I was surprised that I dealt with that here.

The sales person did the measurements in the doorway to main fitting room, not even in a fitting room. She then proceeded to walk in on my mom as she was changing once she finally got a room to change in - no knock on the door, no "are you ready", nothing, just opened the fitting room.
