Last year, I needed something dressy for a global sales meeting gala event. With Arlene's help, I found a gorgeous and uniquely-styled dress by Joseph Ribkoff, a Canadian designer whose collections I had previously only seen in a boutique in the Rideau Centre in Ottawa. This year's favorite find is another Joseph Ribkoff design: a short black skirt embellished with silver rivets for a really fun and funky effect, dressed up or down. My size was out of stock through the store, so Arlene graciously special ordered it for me. On another trip to Shirley's, I eyed a faux leather jacket, but wasn't sure of the cut; Arlene explained why the cut was wrong for me and suggested a similar jacket that was more becoming. Talk about top-quality service! I really like the designers Arlene brings in, especially Brighton and Z Supply, but the customer service is what really impresses me and keeps me coming back for more.

Their jewelry is a little more expensive than some other retailers, but they're of good quality and will last you a very long time. I love their array of home decor. I bought some paintings and assorted knick-knacks there years and years ago and they are still on display at my house because they're unique, still look as good as new, and receive a lot of compliments from guests. In my opinion, their bath and bedding section is top-notch and high-quality. My warm, fuzzy blanket I purchased from them eons ago is still in excellent shape and has only gotten softer and more comfortable over the years. The same goes for my comforter and sheet sets. You may pay a little more, but these products will last for years to come. I don't know if I'm the only one who has a bizarre graphic tee obsession, but on the off-chance you're like me, Kohl's will not disappoint. Their tees are one-of-a-kind and can't be found anywhere else. I just wish they had more of a selection. Overall, their entire clothing department is impressive and sometimes you can stumble upon some really good deals. I live in Allegheny County, which does not have a Boscov's, so this particular location in Beaver County is the closest to me. For at least a few years, I have shopped occasionally in this store. I would describe Boscov's as being between Macy's and JCPenney in quality. Products are often name-brand and designer and are often on sale for low prices. I always shop in multiple departments but focus mostly on the junior's and misses's sections of clothing, which are quite large and take much time to search through. During my most recent visit, I chose a thermal/waffle shirt that was on sale for only $7. I was standing in line at a cash register when an employee told me that I could go to her cash register a short walk away. I appreciated that she did not make me wait to be served. She correctly rang up my purchase and thanked me.

My husband and I were here most recently on Black Friday 2025, and although the mall had mostly vacant storefronts, many people were walking around. The mall was clean and maintained, and a Christmas train was set up for children. My husband made an analogy and said that the mall reminded him of an old person who was dying but was in a nursing home that took great care of them (!). I needed to use the women's restroom, and an employee kindly told me its location. The restroom was located past the food court, which contained only some restaurants. The restroom looked old but was fairly clean and worked. During this shopping trip, I shopped in the Boscov's, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Shoe Dept. Encore. I most liked the Boscov's.

The Beaver Valley Mall is magnificent but dead. It's a large mall that is smaller than you'd expect…read moreon the inside, with a beautiful fountain at center court. The interior is very pretty for a mall, and there are cute gathering areas in front of two anchor stores. Many storefronts in the interior of the mall are vacant, and finding a reason to come shop is difficult. The mall is owned by Namdar Realty Group, a known slum lord. Unfortunately, the anchors contribute to the issues. The former Macy's is used by U-Haul for self-storage with part being offered for redevelopment. Rural King does not open into the mall. JCPenney is in the process of closing, which is sad as it's a nicer store for this chain. Boscov's will be the only anchor with access from in the mall once JCPenney's closes. Dick's remains as a junior anchor. The food court is still decent and includes Chick-Fil-A and China Max, along with others. It's a shame a mall this nice looking is in this condition, with empty storefronts everywhere. The future of this mall is uncertain at best.
