Anthropologie is a chain retail store that sells women's clothing (e.g., tops, bottoms, and wedding dresses), shoes, accessories (e.g., handbags and jewelry), home goods (e.g., dishes and candles), beauty products, etcetera. For years I have occasionally shopped for clothing at Anthropologie. I think that the styles are creative and that the clothing is well-made. As other reviewers have noted, the prices are higher than what some other stores charge, but the quality is high, and the store has a sale section that most people could afford. During my most recent visit, I browsed around the store for minutes, and then an employee asked me if I needed any assistance--while very obviously looking me up-down. Eek! My household income is in the top 1%, but I was wearing middle-class attire such as HOKA (which Anthropologie sells!) and The North Face. I think that her verbal communication was fine but that her nonverbal communication could improve. I saw a dress and shirt that I liked, but I did not buy them. I love Anthro so it is nice to have one in Pittsburgh. The store is located in Bakery Square and it is a large storefront. Everything is spaced out well and they have a variety of items (I.e clothes, housewares, bridal). Additionally their sale room is great and I've found some great gems in there. Everytime I go in, the staff have always made me feel welcomed and they always start a dressing room for me, if I'm clothes shopping. Another reviewer mentioned that they wish there were more housewares, but I think we are lucky because we have a anthro home outlet in the north hills. Overall, I love this location! read more

Anthropologie bakery Square has the best selection and always such a good sale room. Well, I was there. They had black Friday sales across the store on various items and everything was fully stocked. The staff was very friendly as I did a return and I always love the value of my items I get at anthro. Always a great value for the quality of the items I get there. read more

I love Anthropologie and this location is pretty good! The store is nicely laid out. I wish they had a little more home decor. They have a decent range of clothes and their sale room is nice. Anthropologie has always been in my top 5 of mainstream, but unique clothing stores. This Illy Philly was out after church and the weather was nice so I decided to head over to Shadyside and then to Bakery Square to have some retail therapy for my stylin' soul. :) When you walk in the design of the store is always fresh, eclectic and beautiful! The staff has always been extremely helpful at this store and I'm never disappointed in their suggestions and their assistance. The clothing is so, so unique and although their pricing is on the higher end, it's absolutely worth it! I also love that they have a divine bridal boutique with lovely gowns and bridesmaids dresses. They also have a room in the back with sale items and I have to say I always find something in there! They sell decor for the home, jewelery and sometimes shoes. It's really just nice to go, try on some beautiful clothes and then venture outside to restaurants and other stores. There is a free garage for parking attached ( you can park up to 3 hours free) or you can do the one hour parking in the parking lot. read more

Poor customer service. Staff were socializing with each other and never acknowledged my presence or offered to assist. There were no other customers in the store. I selected an item and searched for a staff member to ask for help. A member asked if it was a gift and then just walked away. The individual at checkout was pleasant and identified an issue with the gift box, which was resolved. Very disappointed in this shopping experience and would not recommend this location. read more

Delightful store to stop in! It's laid out in that quirky elegant trademark style of Anthro, with some clothing right up front and most of it towards the back. Housewares are clustered more near the front , so they're pretty easy to find. Candles are dotted throughout the store, so that signature Anthropologie scent is always present. That scent is quite strong (you can smell it even outside of the store itself), so it's something to keep in mind if you have respiratory difficulties like I do. Other than that, everything was clean, organized, just the price you'd expect, and the employees were polite. I'll definitely be back! read more

I come here often to buy gifts for friends and my son's teachers. I had a really good experience here today. I bought a bunch of mugs, and the person who checked me out (Alina) was fantastic. She carefully wrapped each mug in tissue paper in its own gift box and even sent me home with ribbon and extra tissue paper (since I said I'd open the boxes later to make sure each mug went to the right gift recipient). She truly went above and beyond, and I hope Anthropologie realizes what a treasure of an employee they have. Thanks! read more

I...have mixed feelings about Anthropologie. I have always loved the general look of the stores and the things sold in them, and this one is no exception - actually, to be honest this store is really nice, spacious, and well designed, so it was an even better place to browse than some of the other Anthropologie stores I've explored. It was definitely much easier to browse through the selections here because things weren't crammed into a smaller area, always a problem at the Anthropologie located in a small mall I live near. However, the honest truth is that on closer inspection 99.9% of Anthropologie clothes are just not for me. The jewelery lineup here during my last visit did not impress me; there were just too many bug necklaces and rings for my taste (give me owls and foxes any day!). I took issue with the shirts, dresses and so forth as well: many were made from really itchy uncomfortable fabrics. But honestly, the ultimate deal breaker is just that all of the clothes and accessories are entirely too expensive! Seriously, I've seen items half off here that cost $150. I mean, I'm not a total cheapskate, but $150 for an accessory? Sorry to say but between the designs and the prices nothing appeals to me clothing or accessory wise, and that's always been the case. Sorry, Anthropologie. There is, however, one reason I will continue to explore Anthropologie: the home items. I have found some of the cutest home decor items here: book ends shaped as horses, beautifully colored mugs, a Union Jack picture frame, very lovely pillows...just to name a few of the things I've found - and usually they're a little more reasonably priced and well worth the money. I guess Anthropologie's doomed to be a mixed bag all around for me. But at least it's not a total lost cause, right? read more

I'm not a huge fan of the layout of this store. Things are scattered everywhere with no actual sense of direction or cohesion. The vibe is very bohemian at a not so bohemian price. I also don't think the price of these items are worth what they're asking for. I find better quality items elsewhere for less so I wouldn't consider this store a must see. Anthropologie is one of my favorite retailers, and even though I was excited about the opening of this store (a year or two ago?), I lived so close to the Mt Lebanon location that I never stopped by. Anyway, I moved in the spring, and finally checked out this store with my best friend in September. Five minutes into my shopping experience, I asked myself, "Why haven't I come to this location before?!" This store feels a lot bigger than the Mt Lebanon one, and the sales associates were very helpful (unlike the colder associates I had experienced in the south hills). After my friend and I had both picked up several items, we were quickly greeted by associates who started us fitting rooms. Sadly, we didn't find much -- I purchased a fabric handbag and some furniture knobs -- but I definitely plan on returning some time soon! read more

I love anthropology for it's good selection of perfumes from small, independent perfumers. I do not wear mainstream perfumes. I always go to check out the scents. One of my favorite brands is MCMC from Brooklyn New York. Occasionally, I will buy clothes, but typically when they have a sale. The clothes here are expensive. Some of the reviews talk about the snootiness of the staff, but I can honestly say I personally have not experienced that. I'm always greeted when I enter the store and am frequently asked if I need help when browsing. Needless to say, it's one of the stores I frequently visit when I'm in bakery Square. read more

I mean, I went in here with my mom to look and found out very quickly this is more of a Woman's store, so my opinion really cannot be counted. But, it did seem like a pretty cool store, and the people working here were very kind. I was only able to help my mom pick out a door knob for our bathroom, so I would say it was successful. I am a big clothes shopper and also hippie at heart. I have always loved the clothing at Anthropologie and the ones I've visited (mainly in the South) have given me great vibes. I love that we now have one in Pittsburgh and would highly recommend anyone who wants to be inspired by clothing/art/design to take a trip to Anthropologie. It is located in the new Bakery Square below the gym and is next door to a new Free People store, also a favorite. The prices are a bit expensive especially when it comes to shirts and accessories, however I think that SALE days are the way to go! Today (6/2/11) I went into the store and there was a great SALE selection and tops that were usually $50 were only $20 or $30. Makes a big difference if you buy several things, which I usually end up doing whether I mean to or not! The clothing is also worth the extra dough! Comfy! Soft! Lasts through washes! AWESOME! The staff in the store every time I've been in has been great and always helps you in the best way that they can and calls you by name once introduced. I could not agree more with DJ S. review. "Love Anthropologie but the snooty staff still exists. They favor certain customers over others." I've never been made to feel so out of place in my life. Just because I choose not to pay $78 for a ripped up and see-through t-shirt, and would rather buy some porcelain knobs for my DIY dresser from the Sale section, doesn't make me any less of a customer. As a store manager of a store that sold Anthropologie, I have always been a fan. Being new to Pittsburgh and finding one was such a blessing. I was took by surprised when i walked in and didn't even receive a "hello." The staff is not friendly.. in fact, they almost made me feel as if i am not welcome. This particular store is right below my gym, so i typically visit after a workout. Obviously, in workout gear. I noticed they pay more attention to the people who come dressed in different attire. They seemed annoyed with my presence, and it took a heaping pile of clothes in my hands for one of them to finally ask if i needed a fitting room. This is one of the worst stores I have went in to. Get it together. Quite frankly, if you don't know how to be in customer service, quit. Nobody who is going to spend 100's of dollars in your store wants to be treated so poorly. On a lighter note, the tops i bought are fabulous and i cannot wait to wear them! read more
