I was walking around the neighborhood and came across this take out spot. I ordered a doner kabob to go and they made one fresh with beef and lamb mixed and filled it with onions, lettuce, tomato and a couple different sauces, one of which was hot. When I'm in Europe on business by myself, I tend to spend my budget on nicer hotels and eat on the streets like the locals. This is one of those places that fits right in to that plan. Located near St. Stephen's Green, I stumbled upon it while famished and searching for lunch. Western Europe tends to have a large number of Turkish kebab spots and this is really no different but I will give them some points for having a catchy name and good signage. Kebabs are the European version of fast food and is especially convenient for lunchtime takeaway. That is what I typically get but this place had other items on the menu too including Fish and Chips, Pizzas, etc. I noted that they were hand-tossing dough to order for their Kebab wraps and their pizzas so this is so much better than what we tend to see for fast food lunch options in the USA. There are only about 5 tables in the place so if you eat in, don't be a jerk and monopolize a table for a long time. Stuff your pie hole and move out. Better yet, take away and go to St. Stephen's Green across the street for a park bench setting to enjoy your lunch. If you go between noon-7p, they have meal specials that come with chips and a beverage. If you are a moron like me, you miss the sign and order a Doner Kebab and a drink and miss the meal deal and end up paying about an extra 1€. The guys working the place are polite, they get your order right (I asked for extra chili and peppers), and they know how to move a crowd. While I was in there about 25 people followed me in and slammed them with lunch orders but they kept up with the pace and got everyone taken care of in a timely way. The food was exactly as you would expect. Look at the photos and it tastes as good as it looks and all for under 7€ in general. The salad toppings are very fresh and the meat is shaved to order and not slowly dying and going limp under a heat lamp as I have seen at some other Kebab houses. I enjoyed my lunch there and am going to go back to grab another one to stick in my hotel cooler for my jet-lag middle of the night snack when I wake up around 1 am as is my usual Europe habit. It's not fancy, it's not trendy, it's not hip. But it is inexpensive by European standards, tasty, and filling. It is a no-brainer for 4 stars from me. read more

There's a rule about eating abroad. Ignore advertisements, English menus and flashy lights. Go for a wander until you find out where the locals are eating, because they actually DO know where the best grub is. Now, if you were to apply this same logic to kebab houses it wouldn't be long before you found yourself here. Show up during the day and you'll find it servicing a predominantly Eastern clientele. This is about as good an endorsement as you can get. I happen to like kebabs quite a bit so I'm a big fan of Hot Chilli. Is it as good as Zaytoon? Well, think of it like this. Zaytoon is the young poppy one with multi-million record sales, Hot Chilli is a bit more low key but maybe has greater respect from within the industry and among conaisseurs. Hot Chilli may not register immediately on the radar of Dublin's kebab epicureans, but hot damn, Hot Chilli do good kebabs. Many of you may only be familiar with Hot Chili in the context of falling out of the Village or Whelans at 3 o'clock in the morning and falling into Hot Chilli for a kebab which you immediately regret, especially when you go to your pilates class the next day. For the last year or so, I have partaken of the occasional daytime kebab (a kebab when you're not even drunk! Imagine!), and Hot Chilli do a nice one. You can get a chicken or lamb schwarma (or shish) for €6 at lunchtime, though this may have gone to €7 in recent weeks. And it is a reeaaallly nice kebab. And they also to pizzas and stuff as well, which I have tasted (it was pretty good), and the prices were very reasonable. I also like the ambiance in there during the day: big wooden tables, crazy Middle Eastern pop on the stereo, giant rotating yokes of meat. What could be better. And most of Hot Chilli's lunchtime clientele is composed of people from north Africa and the Middle East, so if they are eating there, the proprietors must be doing something right. So if you take the attitude of "Atkin's be damned, I'm eating a kebab", make Hot Chilli the scene of the collapse of your willpower. And if you really want to throw the hammer after the hatchet, order the taco fries on the side. Lard in a bowl, it does not get much better. read more

On the recommendation of a work colleague and in the pursuit of finding the best kebab in the area, we found ourselves in Hot Chilli. Upon arrival I meet five other work colleagues already tucking into their kebabs. Wow this place really is a favourite with the people I work with. When our kebabs are ready we are asked if we want all the sauces. When I say yes, I am warned the spicy sauce is very spicy. I respond I can handle it. And I could. It does have a good kick to it and leaves a lovely warmness afterwards. I've been to Hot Chilli twice now, both sober and slightly drunk. On both occasions I had a most excellent mixed kebab. Just had an excellent falafel kebab. (Not what I know as a kebab... What we call a falafel sandwich in N.Y., but never mind that; it was delicious.) Made on the spot with fresh ingredients, yummy spicy sauce, fluffy pita... first rate. I didn't expect this in Dublin, especially on Christmas Day and the day after, when the city is shut down and they tell you you won't be able to find an open place to eat... let alone one this good or this affordable. We're food snobs in the Big Apple, and this place warrants five stars. read more

Hot Chilli sells very tasty egyptian style kebabs. Let me explain that, Zaytoon is a persian kebab. The difference is in the pita. Egyptian pittas are much softer and floury than Persian kebabs. This means that Hot Chilli's kebabs are a very different taste from the classic Irish kebab! It's quite tasty, and at €7.50 for a mixed doner, is damn good value Their chef is very friendly and fast, which is all I want at midnight with a few drinks inside of me. Next time you're thinking of going for a kebab, give this place a go, for a change! read more

For a place called 'Hot Chilli' they need to spice it up a bit to truly live up to the name. Not to say that they don't do good kebabs, but I like my döner to be spicy (something that is hard to get in Dublin) and when I saw the sign I actually thought I had finally found the place I'd been looking for ohh so long. Hot chilli is slightly off-putting because of the massive trays of what looks like sloppy mush on display to the potential customer as they walk by. But trust me, this is the best mush you're ever likely to have. They do great speciality dishes and a mean kebab. What the food lacks in visual appeal, it makes up for in tastiness. read more

I've been sampling kebabs in the area for a while now. I have finally come to the conclusion that Hot Chilli is the best. There were three contenders for me, Babylon, Zaytoon and the newcomer Hot Chilli. I have actually downgraded Zaytoon based purely on Price, although it is quite a nice place to eat, its still a over priced for for takeaway/kebab shop. Babylon has a great naan base and great salad and is really really cheap. But the Donor itsself to me seems a bit underpair compared to the other two. Hot Chilli not only has the nicest kebabs, nicest chilli and garlic sauce but it also has great chips and friendly staff. Especially at lunch time. So well done Hot Chilli you rock as a kebab house. read more

Went to see for myself. I have eaten Kababs in the UK, Isle of Man, USA, Turkey, Nad almost every other country in the EU. This is not the best, but it is close. It is probably the best in Dublin. I had the lamb doner with chips and a drink for ten euro. read more
