One and done...of all my years shooting, I have never encountered anything like this place. I will never...ever... go back again. I brought my 2 sons with me and paid $9 per shooter...3 of us or $27 per 30 minutes increments or $54 hour which I didnt mind paying...if we had atleast two lanes so we could get fair shooting time for each of us and they agreed. After we got set up, we were rudely told to move on one lane by the "rangemaster" so they could accomodate other shooters.... so less shooting for me and my boys... more $$$ for them. I used to frequent this range very often, and really liked it compared to other indoor ranges I frequented in Maryland. It wasn't very expensive and they treated you right. However, as time went on, I noticed that the prices suddently jumped and a few of the employees began to have an attitude with the clientele. I understand dealing with noob shooters or people who are immature with firearms is frustrating and requires that kind of attitude sometimes, but dealing with everyone like that is bad business. Anyway, after the prices went up and the attitude worsened, I stopped going for the most part. The Good: -Decent selection of rental guns -The older gentleman who is often the range captain is very helpful and knowledgeable. I wish more employees were like him there. -The range itself isn't set up bad, but it is very old and worn out. -They allow some shotgun and rifle calibers, provided you have the proper ammo The Bad: -VERY CROWDED, or at least much of the time. I have always had to wait to get a lane on the weekends. -Expensive ammo. I used to like the 9x19 German surplus ammo they used to stock, but when that ran out, I stopped buying ammo there. -Many of the employees act as if they are God and you are an idiot. -Very little sales stock -Range time has become very expensive The Ugly: -The range equipment is worn badly, but it still somehow works. -Probably the worst thing about this place are the people who frequent it. I have seen tons of dangerous activity on the range. Younger shooters (late teens/early 20's) double fist hanguns, rapid fires, etc. I have seen very few shooters who get corrected on this activity (always the older gentleman who's range captain who does this). Many of the shooters who use this range routinely practice idiotic activity. Not Recommended. For an indoor range, go to Freestate Arms in White Marsh, or the outdoor range in Elk Neck. read more

Sometimes you just wanna get out of the house and shoot some shit. With two feet of snow still on the ground, the indoor range was the answer. The details: -They have a good selection of guns to rent or you can bring your own. -They sell ammo and I believe the hourly range fee is based on whether you use theirs (something like $8/hour). If you're firing a shotgun, it has to be a heavier shell load or slug. They explained that the smaller loads could bounce back indoors. -There was a sign that said gun rentals are free on Monday. Same goes for college students on Wednesday and the women on Thursday. -Ear protection and glasses are free to borrow. I would recommend bringing a pair of earplugs as well to wear under the ear muffs. Being indoors, it's obviously much louder than an outdoor range. Also since someone could be firing a shotgun indoors, it can get loud. The big difference over other ranges was that everyone was polite, professional, and helpful. The place is about shooting and nothing else. Some stores and ranges feel the need to politicize everything which does nothing but keep beginners away. I came on a Saturday morning and there were actually all ages there, an elderly couple as well as a kid who looked to be about 10 with his father. Everything was comfortable, safe, and clean. Worth the drive from the city and there's a Wawa nearby for the ride home. read more

I came here with some friends due to a Groupon. When we arrived, they gave us a choice of a few guns, then we waited for a tutorial. They showed us how to safely hold & load a gun, prior to our shooting time. They took their time and made sure we were able to fully understand the procedure. The indoor range was great. There was a safely officer who was available if we had questions. It can get quite loud (depending on what guns are being shot), and there is additional ear plugs you can buy to wear under the provided ear protection. Overall an enjoyable experience. read more

Went to H&M to train handgun shooting with the wife. Have been back for transfers, purchases, etc. the staff were very friendly, and it seemed to me that the manager/owners son also worked behind the counter (I could be wrong). What I found impressive was that the boy was kept in constant check over how serious a business he was in. I thought it was more of a discount than it was, but it sounds like it only got us a safety class that lasted a couple of minutes. After that, we were basically on our own. Make sure you get there an hour before they close. For some reason, which I couldn't find on their website, the last shooter has to be in an hour before they close. I'm no entrepreneur, but if you close at 8pm and I arrive at 7:15 pm with money to spend, you would want my money. Nope, even though I had everything ready to shoot the prepubescent redhead step child that was working that evening refused to let me shoot. I typically recommend this place for shooters all the time over Freestate and Continental. But this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe it was because I wasted a babysitter for nothing or I was treated with such disrespect. Either way, customer service is key and maybe have it posted on your door about what time you have to be in the range. read more

you know it's a default range at best (i.e. it's close and will do in a pinch), I was doing some training drills for competition last time and I was told "no holster fire" (I am a firm believer that if you don't train right with no stress, forget it when stress is added to the equation, you'll shoot yourself), it isn't that cheap either. Overall, It isn't a real shooter's ranger, more of the occasional shooter. Some of the younger guys at the desk are cocky and arrogant, I do however, recommend the classes with Wes. read more

I've purchased several guns here and have used their range numerous times but was recently denied the ability to purchase a box of ammo. Their reasoning was there's a national shortage so I'd have to use their range to buy ammo. They have lost a customer for life. I've never had a more unprofessional experience in a business. Small range, well kept up, handguns are reasonably priced if you'd like to purchase. The range ammo isn't cheap, but that's where they probably make their money, I'd say about $5 more then the store, which is t too bad. Living in Bel Air, MD you find out quickly that there is nothing to do beside the lame nightlife scene and lack of good restaurants. So I decided to check out some guns at Horst and McCann. It is really convenient for those that do not own a fire arm such as myself. I enjoyed my time here trying out the 40 glock, 22 LDR and a shot gun. I had purchased a Groupon deal for a shooting session for 2 and waited until a couple of days before it expired to use it, but finally got around to it and now I have to wonder why I waited so long! It's been a LONG time since I've shot anything, so I was a little hesitant going in, but these guys did a great job of helping me choose the right firearm, gave great instructions, and stuck around long enough to make sure we could handle ourselves on the range before leaving us alone. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because their location isn't really all that convenient, over an hour from home for me, but the experience was great. Came here as a stop on a mini road trip. I found them on Groupon and my friend has never been shooting so we decided to try it. I've shot once before so we are both beginners. Jameson helped us out and made everything very simple and easy. The experience couldn't have been better for a first timer and a newbie. Jameson made sure we knew how to operate the gun and watched us shoot a few before letting us be on our own. He ensured we were safe but also that we were relaxed and having fun. They had a variety of options for people who were just starting out and were helpful regarding pricing, etc. The safety personnel inside the range was a little distant at times we needed him, but otherwise a really wonderful experience. I have never felt so violated by a "buisness" Where do I start, it is the dirtyest little shop I have ever been into, NO selection of guns on hand. And to make matters worse when we did puchase a pistol from them they never informed us that it was in, we had to do all the leg work. Went to pick it up this morning, nice little Ruger and when we asked if we could put a couple of rounds thru they said sure.... did not sign any wavers..........shot a toal of 20 rounds through the gun (maybe 10 minutes ) and were charged for using the range, wasn't $400.00 for the gun enough money for the day ? I told the child working how I did not think that was a decent way to treat customers and he told us to leave, great customer relations So we will not be back, and if your are smart you will not reward a buisness for this type of behavior. read more

This place is just ok. It only has 7 or 8 shooting lanes and the parking lot sucks because they only have about 7 or 8 parking spaces to accomodate 3 employees, shooters and random people stopping in to ask questions. The last time I went I couldn't get a parking spot so I had to go home. It's getting more and more crowded here with loud ass clowns in adjacent lanes that are very distracting while you try to shoot. Maybe I'll try Freestate in Whitemarsh. However, they were not honest with us, we bought a groupon for $150 and they ended up charging us $300 extra for range time although they only gave us 2 ranges for 6 ppl and we couldnt possibly use all our ammo in that short time. My husband and I went to shoot there for his 40th birthday. Not only were the staff friendly but informative. We attended the short gun safety session. Never have shot before, I was a little nervous but I was put at ease by the thoroughness of the instruction. The range was well kept and clean. Horst & McCann is the most family friendly, pleasant, relaxing, safe, indoor shooting range I have been to...and I've been to a LOT in 40+ years of shooting. I have never seen dangerous or arrogant behaviour while I was there, all of the staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I was really excited to go to this gun range after reading all the great reviews. Unfortunately, after my experience, I truly believe I went to a different place. This was my very first time at a gun range and it turned out to be the worst experience I have ever had. Their customer service was the worst! Upon researching other gun ranges, I learned that what I should have received was a 20-minute Intro to Pistol Safety & Shooting. Iinstead, my "personalized instruction" consisted of a 5-minute How-to-load-the-magazine (which I am still unable to do) and How-to-hold- and When-to-pull-the-trigger, all of which was done at the counter. As a first timer, I also thought I would get a baby gun. But no! They gave me a 9mm with a recoil of 60mph, while my friend received the starter pistol, which, apparently, they had run out of. Well, after almost taking my arm off with the 9mm, my friend and I shared the starter pistol, which I was much more comfortable using. After we used all of the starter pistol ammo, I went to the front desk to ask if I would get a refund on the 9mm ammo because I only used 9 of the 50 bullets they gave me. The girl who offered me that invaluable 5-minute tutorial said, "Well you have the expensive bullets and we cant take those back to restock them. You can just use them next time." Umm, there wont be a next time! Plus, I didn't ask for the expensive bullets so why would you give me the expensive bullets in the first place?? They knew this was my first time at a gun range, yet they treated me like my satisfaction with this experience was not priority. The lack of professionalism and level of customer service was dispicable. This was just the worst experience I have ever had anywhere and I will never go here again. read more

Two different people at this range talked to us about how to do darn near everything for beginners and answered all of our questions. I have been nervous about and around guns all of my life, but wanted to challenge myself to live outside my comfort zone, so my friend and I went in and were immediately treated with respect, patience and kindness.
