It was my husband's 50th and we had an entire day of activities. This was the second stop. We invited friends and had a group of 7. It was the day before Christmas Eve and it was busy but we were able to get in within 20 mins. While we waited they completed our paperwork which made the time go by quickly. We enjoyed our time and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I don't know a lot about guns but they have a fair selection of guns to rent. On the website, it says that handgun rentals are $10 plus the cost of ammo. Ammo is $20 a box and you would like about two boxes just a heads up so you can plan. It is loud in there so you do need protective eyewear, and earplugs. You can get eyewear for about two bucks from Harbor freight. If you have AirPods that have noise cancellation I preferred those over earplugs because it was still a bit loud for me. Once you're in there for about 10 minutes, you focus more on shooting than anything else. For ladies, dress comfortably without oversize clothing because it can be a little annoying for you to try to shoot wearing clothes that are way too baggy. Leave your purse in the car because there is only a small ledge to rest your purse on. Just a reminder for new patrons, you are only allowed to carry your rented gun in the black caddy and loaded weapons are not to be taken from the shooting booth. We had a great time and I purchased a family membership for my husband's birthday. Therefore, we are definitely going back. read more

Pro: moderate size parking lot, clean interior. Con: bathroom. Came here to do my HQL class and it was fairly quick and simple. Moderate size parking lot so no issue finding a parking space. Upon entering I check in with the staff in front and then headed upstairs to where the class was held. Our instructor Stephanie was engaging and made class fun. Got our fingerprint done during class and then after the lecture we went and did some live firing. One of the downside is the bathroom only has 1 urinal and 1 stall, on this day the urinal was out of order so a long wait time to use the bathroom since only have one stall. All in all, it was a very straight forward process to completing the class and getting my HQL certificate and I would highly recommend anyone who in the area and need a HQL class to get it here. As for me I won't be back unfortunately due to the distance, gas price, and having to drive through dingy Baltimore to get to this facility. read more

While in the range I moved a firearm totally open back to my bag. The worker ran over grabbed my firearm screaming at me to put it back in the lane. I was so taken back by the way he screamed at me instead of just telling me. Then he told my husband to pay more attention and me that it was no excuse not knowing. Thing is I have always unloaded my back and walked the firearms across the isle. Guess it depends on who is working. That will be my last visit today the least. Brought my daughter and her friend as a birthday surprise. This was a first time for them. The staff was very friendly. If it's your first time you need to register using the kiosk. Then you are set up in a room to watch a training video. The end of the video gives you a code to get a discount. You select a fire arm. Afterwards an instructor comes in with that gun, and fake bullets, to ensure you know what to do. When you go back to the counter, they take your ID to get you set up. You are given a bucket with your chosen gun, you choose a target, bullets, ear plugs, etc. By the time all of that was done and they were given the bucket, it was about 2:49 pm. I asked if there was going to be someone in the range area to help them set up. I was told people come by to check, but if someone stays that's called personal training and cost $100. I tried to pay for the 1 hr session. I was told you pay afterwards. Ok. Cool. I went outside to wait. They go shoot, have a good time, come back out when it's 4pm. So here is why Free State lost a star. I really want to take away two stars. My daughter & her friend went to the register and paid. (They should've waited for me). When I looked at the receipt I was confused by why it's over $100. Why are they being charged $40 for the 1st shooter, and $22 for the second shooter, when they were only down there an hour? The price is supposed to be $20 for the first shooter and $11 for the second. So they go back inside to speak with someone. They are told that the time started at 2:49pm. They didn't finish until around 4:02pm. The system only recognizes hourly time, so they were charged for a whole 2nd hour. We weren't going to argue with anyone in a room full of firearms. So we left. This was disappointing, because the time must start when they give you the bucket, not when you get to the range. If this is the case, Free State should explain that. Since the booking was for 3pm, we figured that's when the time started. - This is also why they tell you to pay at the end. I was clear that it was only to be for ONE hour, since we had other plans. The discount for first timer was also not on the receipt. All in All they had fun, but we won't go back. I do not frequent establishments with deceptive billing practices. read more

The service was top notch. Zak built an AR 10 for me in 308 and yesterday I hit every steel target I shot at from 300 to 1020 yards. That's a 1 minute build in an AR10, 308. The staff, trainers and classes are great. The shooting range is terrible! We have yet to try it because we can only go on the weekends, and there is ALWAYS a 2-3 hour wait.... for 1 hour of shooting. After driving an hour each way, that is a wasted 5-6 hours. They need to offer appointments. Guntry offers appointments 24 hours in advance, we love shooting at Guntry. read more

This was my first time visiting a gun range, and it was amazing! The instructor was super helpful. He made sure to explain everything and to make sure you're as comfortable as you can be before you go into a lane. They teach you how to hold a gun, how to load a gun, how to point, shoot, and take everything apart once you're done. The gun rentals are very reasonable, and so is the lane. Beginners have to watch a quick safety video prior to handling any pistols. It was very informative and about 10 mins long. Come early to do that, because it will eat away at your time on the range. It is an indoor range, where you can take off your mask inside the shooting range, due to the pressurized air. Which was great! The targets are $1 each, and after your first time, you are able to rent a larger pistol. They start everyone off with the smallest pistol, a .22. They have a large assortment you can choose from, and you can also bring your own gun in as well. I felt comfortable, i felt as if the instructor was clear, and knowledgeable, and most of all, i felt safe. I will definitely try to come visit again. This was fun, and i highly recommend! Also remember during COVID you need reservations for weekend times. I like this range because the staff are both friendly and professional. They have a nice selection of rentals and ammo. I want to point out that you need to ignore all reviews that are from 2021 and years past. This Range is under new ownership and they have been fantastic with my roommate and I. Nigel, Zach, Bobby, Tony, and the rest of the crew there are knowledgeable and friendly. They go out of their way to help customers and to make them feel welcome. We tried quite a few ranges that were closer and further away from Freestate, but Freestate was the only one worth returning to. I've had wonderful encounters at Free STate over the past few years.. I took my HQL class here, then did a " next Steps" class, which was really Informative. I won't go into too much detail about transactions completed at Free State ( don't want to put all my business out there ). But, I've used their gun range twice and the process was always smooth with registering. For folks new to guns, when walking in, it can be slightly intimidating, but Every single person that I've encountered here has been super polite, helpful and knowledgeable. They know their stuff and are always willing to jump in and help. They gave me some recommendations and advice on handguns, that made me feel more at ease and comfortable. Very well staffed with courteous, professional, and most important knowledgeable personnel. They store a good selection of both new and used firearms as well as accessories are available. From a range perspective it is a smaller range and getting lane space can be challenging especially during this CV19 protocol area. I thought we had reserved a lane via their website but apparently the confirmation was not acknowledged so no shooting for us. i will say that there are a number of novice shooters that come in which is all well and good, but it is important that you make an effort to keep an eye on them to assure that they are following safety protocols. I have seen staff come in and correct shooters but still even with cameras being mounted that does not prevent an accident. read more

I love this pace! The staff are friendly and don't sacrifice the safety and security of others for a buck. While leaving the range today I saw two men walk in and complete a waiver. They smelled strongly of alcohol and marijuana, and everyone knew they were high. They figured if they flaunted their money around then Freestate staff would rent them a gun and some ammo. The guy behind the desk politely told the men " we'd love to have you, but unfortunately we can't service you today. I can smell the alcohol on you and giving you a gun would be unsafe for others." The men left with an attitude, but I appreciated the professionalism displayed by the Freestate employee. I will certainly use this range in the future. One of the newest indoor range facilities in the Baltimore metro area, Freestate's actually a pretty nice place to spend a while putting some holes in paper. 1) They're friendly folks to deal with. The owner was passing around a tin of fudge to all the people waiting for range time. Hey - it was the day after Christmas, and *everyone* wanted to play with their new toys. 2) The rates are reasonable for a clean, well-laid-out, well-equipped range. 3) The target retrieval system is digital with programmable distances, walking targets, edge/face timers, and works flawlessly. 4) If you have to wait for range time like we did, there's a 50-cent pool table, snacks/drinks, and a large waiting/retail area with chairs, stools, and couches. 5) They have a very active firearms instruction class and action shooting schedule. Nearly every week brings a fun shooting event - clay pigeon center-shooting, ping-pong balls suspended from target carriers, bowling pin shoots... and annual memberships are reasonable. I like Freestate. I'll be back. It's probably the best range in the state, and second only to the NRA HQ range in my experience. read more

(Not a review for purchasing fire arms, just the range) First time at the range and any gun range really but would for sure return. The staff were helpful enough. Large selection of hand guns and shotguns, but only a closet of assault rifles even though it was diverse. Getting into the range was a simple process, just sign up, sign a safety pledge thingy, take a quick safety / basics class and shoot! There was also a little lounge to play pool while you wait for a spot. There are some issues however. The building felt a bit small but it wasn't a huge issue. There was a lack of service and WiFi which could be an issue. The price is definitely manageable if you just want a small time at the range for an hour or two. You do have to buy your ammo and rent your own gun if you don't have one. A good place to stop for family time with some lead. read more

My brother, my friend, and I went here on Thursday and we had a great time! Check-in was easy enough on the iPads. Then we went to the check in counter where Sam helped us out. I am leaving this review to speak about this business' customer service and live-scan fingerprint service. I did not use the business for their more obvious purpose, which is shooting and target practice. I had to have fingerprints completed for a new job and I did some research to find a place near me that was both well-priced and efficient. FreeState Gun Range is located off of White Marsh Boulevard and Concourse Circle, behind The Arbors at Baltimore luxury apartments in White Marsh/Middle River. The gun range was easy to find using their directions and my GPS, and was even more easily identifiable by the muffled gun shots that I heard as I approached the business. I do have to say that I felt a bit intimidated going in, but the staff was really nice, approachable, and helpful. I completed my fingerprint paperwork, paid for the service, and was led upstairs to the fingerprint station. There was some initial confusion about what type of prints that I needed to have done for my specific employment, but they quickly resolved the issue. My fingerprints took about fifteen minutes to complete and I was on my way with a receipt and confirmation page. The total cost for the service was $60 for state and federal live-scan fingerprints. I would return in the future simply for location, ease, and efficiency! read more

Came to use the firing range and this operation is 1st Class! We are 3 generations of novice shooters, and were treated unbelievably good. Everything was explained in great detail, but in terms and in a pace even beginners could easily follow and understand. Two of us had our own firearms, and we rented one for my grandson. That firearm had some problems, but they REALLY worked with us. At the end the agent adjusted our fee accordingly, and it was very fair and appreciated. They are a good, honest establishment, so rare these days. We will be back, and I recommend them highly. read more
