The best thing about horseshoe donuts? The fact they actually have donuts that are shaped like horseshoes. I found that extremely clever and definitely bought a few. I've tried several of their donuts and I found that I like almost all of them. I especially like their traditional glaze doughnut (In the shape of a horseshoe of course). The donuts do sell fast on weekend mornings, so I recommend getting there early. The prices are pretty standard for a specialty shop. I do not know how this place stays open. It has gone from bad to worse in the two years we have lived here. It's like a thrift store that sells a few donuts. There's so much junk in the actual store. Everything is dusty and dirty, even the cash register and table where you check out. Being inside this store gives me the heeby jeebies. The donut display case was 75% empty and the areas that were empty were just covered in clumps and crumbs. Things were disheveled. The glass case the donuts are stored in is filthy. No attention to cleanliness whatsoever. They don't even make the donuts on site. And I paid over $2 for one donut for my kid. We will be spending our money elsewhere in the future. I've tried these donuts multiple times before I decided to write this review. They are all very very dense, and crispy on the outside, not very good. No light fluffy, or cake donuts here. Huge, dense, overly sweet, and clearly deep fried. Monument really needs a donut shop like "The Donut Shop" in Castle Rock! All fresh, and made in house. Holy sugar bombs! I don't like the dough they make the donuts from...it is dry and crumbly....then they cover them in sugar. I got an Apple cider donut and it didn't taste a thing like apple cider. The "stall balls" were the tastiest part...still covered in crazy sugar, but the dough was better than the bigger donuts. It's like the bigger donuts absorbed more of the oil during cooking? My hubby had a donut competition at work a few months ago and these donuts took last place. I can understand why. JUST WEIRD. Donuts are ok but the vibe is that of a pop up store that opened 10 minutes before you arrived as part of some contest in a reality TV show. No baking on premises which feels odd like the donuts were literally just carted in from another location which is of course what happens. I really wanted to love this place. The website paints a picture of a really cool coffee and donut shop with a great back story. What we found is a whole different story. We got there just before noon on a Saturday but didn't worry too much since they advertise as closing at 2. We walked in to find less than a dozen donuts in the case. We got the remaining lemon one, a pink horse, and a gigantic chocolate cake one ($9 for 3 donuts). Also, the website makes it sound as though they have great coffee. I saw one empty gas station style coffee pot so we passed on that. We wanted to sit down and let our little birthday boy enjoy his donut, but we were told they were closing (2 hours early). We ate our donuts in the car. They were okay, but I certainly wouldn't return. read more

I really enjoyed the donuts we tried from Horseshoe. They were big, fluffy and moist. My favorites were the old fashioned and the maple bar. The maple bar was huge and can definitely be shared. We got one of the crazy big donuts as well, I think it was some sort of Air Force special donut? The dough had blueberries in it and it was topped with crumbles. There are real donut shops and then there are wannabe donut shops. Horseshoe,falls in to the later category. The name implies gooduck but it's not happening there. It's a space with a play area for toddlers and some donuts on racks and in a,display case. The donuts are not,made on site. Its messy and the help is,not so helpful. They get one star for the humor and size of the "Stall balls" (donut holes) that are 39cents each. The "horseshoe" are glazed raised sugar bombs that are more like a limp half moon. I have to give kudos to this recently opened donut shop in Monument Colorado. I must admit the Apple Fritters are my favorite and one is enough for 3 people to enjoy, they are enormous! I am a fan of the "Stall Balls" or donut holes which are simply to die for. I can honestly say I have sampled the donuts and every one I've tried is simply divine ! While I am only the second person to review this newly opened shop I will have to say that I do not agree with some of what Tim K. wrote. I have always been greeted by the staff as I enter the store along with a "thank you" when leaving. Donuts are made at their Airport and Platte location and are driven up to the Monument store. With this being said, the Monument location is only a retail outlet, not the actual bakery. Yes there is a rack for donut storage which should be covered, however Liz is vigilant when it comes to protecting the donuts from contamination. Like any pizza location, folding boxes is part of the operating of this business, it is not uncommon and during grand opening I can understand that attention to the folding of boxes would be necessary. Gronk is the bulldog in question and he perhaps has better manners than most children. I've observed this pup and he walks into the location and immediately into the crate where he stays. I have never seen donuts stored atop the crate nor anywhere other than in the case or on the storage rack. IF Tim K. went in during the grand opening Sunday I would imagine donuts were everywhere as this is a small location. I would like to stress, this business just opened and their furnishings are sparse. I am sure in time more fixtures will be brought in, donuts will not be accessable to children and Gronk will have more suitable quarters. Came in at 10, figured there should still be some stock as they don't close till 2. I was very mistaken as the only available donut was one of a few that had frosting, sprinkles, and then more frosting on top of an already glazed donut. Wack. But I got it anyway to at least buy something and they charged me $4. The price on the menu was like 1.75 or 2.75 but I guess I got charged twice or something.
