They taste very similar to each other because like, 90% of the donut is this crumbly, thick cake substance. They're rich, they settle like a brick in your stomach, and the flavor is unremarkable. Wow! We were blown away by every single thing we had here but my favorite donut of all time is the Boston cream. I have had my share of Boston cream donuts throughout my lifetime but when I saw that tray of fattys I knew I was in for a real treat. When I bit into that donut it was soft and pillowy and fresh with the perfect amount of cream. I knew I had finally found the perfect donut. I reluctantly shared the other half with my husband who made the same noises I did when he tried it. Perfection!! We also bought a blueberry fritter, chocolate cake donut, several glazed donut holes and carrot cake donut holes. Yes we were feeling gelatinous. I can't say enough good things about this place. The first time we visited our friends in Colorado, they purchased us an assortment of a dozen donuts to share. As of now, I have yet to step inside their doors so I cannot comment on the service or ambiance of the Horseshoe Donuts Shop. I can comment on the donuts we shared though. All of them ranged in taste from good to very good!! My favorites were the Apple Fritter and the Boston Creme donut. Came in right at opening and the cider donut I ordered was stale. It's fine if you're looking for novelty donuts for children, but their food tastes gross. This place is disgusting. If you're looking for a great donut shop... I highly recommend this place! We went on a Wednesday around 10 am, and I was surprised to see most of their specialty donuts were GONE. I definitely recommend coming earlier in the morning. My brother said the Apple fritter was one of the best he's ever had! I had a blueberry crumble donut and it was phenomenal. I heard they have an apple cider donut that I was dying to try, but of course that was one of the donuts that I'm sure ran out early in the morning. read more

When we walked in with our service dog, we were greeted by another dog barking aggressively at us. He was wearing a service dog vest but was obviously not one and seemed like a danger to us and our dog. The owner did nothing to stop the barking and just told us, "he's deaf". And? Why in the world do you have your deaf dog in a service dog vest when he so clearly isn't one, and why is he in the place where you work? Ambiance was horrible, only one table to sit at and carts all over the place. We quickly left. Donuts are fine. Wouldn't go again, wouldn't suggest going again. Not a donut guy but this place is amazing! Is it a hole-in-the-wall? Yes. Yes it is. Is there an old lady behind the counter excited by every sprinkled delicacy you choose? No. No there is not. Does there need to be? Not even a little. This place is about a bare bones as it gets and it's amazing. You have to get there early (0615'ish) to get the best selection because they'll be mostly sold out by 0800. Yes. It's a little pricy. No, they're not the air filled garbage you get a Krispy-Kream. This is a meal. Not too sweet and never lacking for filling or glazing every bite is worth it for your skip day. Yeah, there is a dog and his name is Gronk. I am able to put my hate of the Pats aside and love on him when he's in the shop. The only bummer is that they're not open on Mondays and Tuesdays. read more

I've been here twice and their donuts doesn't disappoint. Their donuts portions are bigger than the standard size and everything that we've tried (old fashion, double chocolate with Oreo, blue berries, blues berries with white glaze and crumbles, Apple fritters, Boston cream) are pretty good. You just have to share them with others because of the portion sizes, meaning you get the chance to try everything else. read more

We took a moment to look at the menu and what was available, and then took a few minutes while putting laundry in at the laundry mat to decide on our selections. We got 2 donuts and a fritter. The amount of filling in the lemon donut was perfect, plenty to be fulfilled but not too much that I felt like it was just filling. Also the size of the donuts, I didn't register that they are quite a bit larger than what I'm use to seeing at any chain places. Also the quality of ingredients and freshness of the donuts is immediately noticeable. Bad: No welcome from staff, which is weird seeing they were having their grand opening week. Half of the staff was folding boxes, seems that they need a quicker alternative. UGLY: Uncovered donuts were on trays throughout the establishment. Trays were even in public areas, a family came in and the parents had to tell their youngsters to not touch the donuts. There was a bulldog in a crate behind the counter... AND there were donuts on trays on top of the crate. No joke - I wish I'd taken photos. Will not return. read more

Let's start by saying that I normally only do donuts when test-driving cars. I indulge in round fat/sugar bombs so rarely that if I'm going to do it, it had better be GOOD. Having established a high bar for quality, and also a dislike of donuts from the chain whose name starts with K K, preferring to each local anyway, the story goes like this... Moseyed into Horseshoe Donuts to feed some hungry/sugar-deprived teenagers, and WHOA PARDNER! These donuts are HUGE! We weren't there long enough to take in the ambiance, though we did see the huge bulldog, and the staff had character. I didn't notice the conditions disparaged by other reviewers, but I did notice the "brewnut of the day," which involved chocolate and stout. Bingo on both counts, and HOLY WOW on the combination - it was something like a huge donut-like chocolate cake than a mere donut, with a delicious crumbly/crispy topping. I cut it into five pieces and froze the rest for later - it was THAT big! (I wanted a treat, not full-blown diabetes...) The aforementioned sugar-seeking teenagers each ate TWO of these things - a blueberry muffin donut, frosted horseshoes, brightly frosted things with sprinkles...I forgot exactly what they got, but I was astounded that they each put down two of them. Meanwhile my 10-year-old sugar freak enjoyed his frosted creme-filled donut with sprinkles, but he said that the creme was TOO SICKLY SWEET. This child has yet to meet anything too sweet for his liking, so I was surprised by that reaction. We didn't get the cute horse-shaped and horse-decorated donuts, but may try those in the future. We live probably 20 minutes away but it's worth the trip for a crazy indulgence. read more

The reason for one star is the customer service. On each of my visits the staff were unfriendly and impatient. There are many better donut shops out there that are alot cheaper. We saw this place on the morning news show and decided to try it. Drove 20 minutes. Upon entering there is a dog laying in the middle of the floor and we had to walk around his toy to get to the counter. We were not greeted though only one other person in the store. We ordered a blueberry fritter, and apple fritter and a peach fritter and one other doughnut. No napkins in the store that day. They just said we are out. Opened up our doughnuts once we were back on the road and two of the fritters were way overcooked. Totally brown bottoms. We didn't even finish them after eating the tops only. Look at Monument, Colorado coming through with ridiculous specialty donuts! I am impressed, friends. You have got to make a stop here. They are BIG and so fun! Just one visit for us so far so I'm not sure what rotates and what's a staple but we tried 5 donuts. DO NOT SLEEP on the apple fritter! It's enormous and so very tasty - the unanimous favorite. Appley, cinnamony, crisp and chewy. We also got a maple raised which is also bigger than your average donut - a little doughy for my husband's liking but I enjoyed it. We got a blueberry donut - again, LARGE and very good. The kiddo had to have a horseshoe shaped Elmo donut - raised with chocolate frosting, all the red spranks, a Nilla wafer nose and creme w/ M&M eyeballs. They also had Cookie Monster, Oscar and...one more maybe? Lastly we tried their daily special - the most ridiculous looking donut!! It was massive. I think it was a coffee-infused chocolate coconut cake-style situation? It was tasty...but not my favorite of the day. I'm ashamed to admit that we couldn't finish them all on the first day (quitters!) and everything but the coffee/chocolate/coconut was great on day 2; that last one got a little hard. We love this place! I'm not sure what all the bad reviews are about. These donuts are giant and delicious! Saturdays they have a special brewnut made with PPBC beer. They also have giant donut cakes you can order ahead of time. Definitely our favorite donut shop, a gem of Monument. read more
