Amazing taste of New Mexico. I see some comments that it doesn't taste like the Mexican or Tex Mex food they are used too. The reason is New Mexican food is an amazing combination of Mexican, Spanish and Native American foods using green and red chile as a primary ingredient. This brings the unique, rich palate of flavors you find at Arlene's. I stop here as often as I can. They are authentic. It helps when they are UNM Lobo and Manzano Monarch supporters.

I generally don't like giving 5 stars for a few reasons... 1: no one really reads them 2: 5 stars should be rare... VERY rare But in this case.... 5 stars is absolutely appropriate. Is there better Mexican food? Yes. Faster food? Yes. Cheaper food? Yes. Can you find somewhere that has all of that with a very clean restaurant AND great staff while making your food perfectly? I doubt it. I haven't seen it, until today. Great place. Great value. The location is not great but people have been flooding in and now I know why. Must eat place if you are anywhere near monument CO.

Cute Mexican restaurant in Monument's downtown. Large menu of the traditional Mexican dishes you'd expect (tostadas, burritos, nachos, enchiladas...) I ordered the veggie burrito smothered with hatch green chile sauce. It was very filling and just the right amount of kick with the green option. You can also choose red if you want even more spice! Or try both and order it Christmas style. The salsa was tasty too! There is an ample amount of space with tables, booths, and bar seating. If you have a party over 4 you will need to combine tables or pull seats up to the booth as we had to.

I saw the high reviews on Yelp so I decided to try this place. Unfortunately, this did not live up to my (and my family's ) expectations. The serving size is small especially the meat portions and for the price it's quite expensive. I asked for green chili for my carne asada fries and they said it doesn't come with it. Gave me a tiny little ounce but have to pay extra if I want more. I think this is the only Mexican place that I've eaten that charges extra for green Chile sauce. The beans are a little salty. Except for the carne asada fries, we did not finish our meal. The food lacks flavor. I was really disappointed. The place has ample parking and the inside is cute, cozy and clean. Staff and service were okay. They give military discount.

The rest of it seemed like it was in a hurry too. The cheese wasnt melted and it seemed thrown together. The chips and salsa were decent. Their Pico was good but the other sauce seemed like straight up just tomato sauce and the spicy green sauce was more spice than flavor. They all come free though and the chips were good so we appreciated it. The staff was nice and for the amount of tables one person had, they were pretty quick. The atmosphere was good with standard Mexican blankets, instruments, etc. They had a few yard glasses (the really long ones with a rounded bottom) which is interesting since those dont have much to do with mexico but they are cool anyway so it still adds to the atmosphere. Overall a bit of a disappointment on my end.

We sat next to the wall as we had a group of 6 for a birthday celebration and the group enjoys good pictures. The back wall was so cute and a great background for pictures. Chips and salsa to start, standard for a Mexican kitchen. The salsa was great but noticed the chips look like they were from a bag. They were. I was disappointed, but stayed optimistic. We ordered the mimosa tower. Had 4 fills myself and didn't feel a thing. I am a light weight as it is so definitely should've felt at-least a little buzz, but nothing. That was just the start. I ordered the Chilaquiles Divorciados, sunny side up eggs, tortilla chips, salsa verde, salsa roja, crema, cotija cheese, avocado, red onion and cilantro. The toppings and eggs were very tasty and the spice level was great. The tortilla chips... they were from the same bag that the chips and salsa came from. I would think that it would be more cost efficient to make your own chips. Very easy to make. We got there at 11am and left a little before 1:30pm and not because we took long, but because the staff took their time to service us. There was no sense of urgency for food or drinks for that matter. I had to ask for a refill of my water and didn't even get another water refill after that. As I mentioned before the waiter and waitress were kind, not as fast as they could be as well as attentive to water refills and/or any drink refills for that matter but kind.

With that said, Tommy's is legit! Super festive exterior and interior. The restaurant itself is very tiny, seating about 20. Super super clean. Selection of bottled and canned sodas and juices. A salsa bar. Tommy and the gal working there were over the top nice. He is really taking pride in his shop and the food he serves. Now the food... quite possibly the best California Burrito I've had in Colorado! No joke. It was just right. The carne asada had a little char on it. The burrito was made with fries (i.e. the proper way), adding another layer of texture. And for $12 it's a couple bucks cheaper than most comparable places in town. All of the salsas were excellent. A variety of red and green salsas. They all had a decent amount of heat. The creamy avocado salsa was perfect on my California Burrito. My friend had the fish taco plate (2 tacos, rice & brace). This was an impromptu choice while we were in Boulder, and it truly lived up to its reputation as a Michelin Guide restaurant. Food & Taste We tried the lamb tacos and chicken enchiladas (with both red and green sauces). The lamb tacos were delicious, though slightly on the oily side -- something we did share as feedback. The chicken enchiladas were the highlight. The flavors took me back to Santa Fe -- well-balanced, rich, and comforting. And it does draw a very diverse crowd from the Hispanics to Caucasians to Asians, I mean you name it. They also get a lot of to-go orders. Some people came in, grabbed their food and went on their way for the night. My friend got the Torta Los Carboncito. This is a massive sandwich with plenty of meat inside. Since the menu has colored picofor almost each item, what caught my attention was the fish dish. There are two of them: one is trout and the other is something else (I forgot) but I got me the non-trout one. The lady asked me if I wanted the flour or corn tortillas so I went with the corn one. As soon as I got home, my late night snacking started. I only took several bites out of that whatever the huge fish. And oh my goodness, it was so delicious! Well-seasoned with very light salt. Although I mainly got it for tomorrow morning/lunch I had a hard time quit eating because of its deliciousness. Extremely welcoming staff (I even met the owner, Alex as he was dining with his family), quality food and value pricing, this place checks out for the hidden gem restaurant that's not necessarily super fancy but it's worth every penny and time. Yelping is so much fun. That is why I cannot quit my foodie-ness! What a nice discovery!
