We had originally hoped to go horseback riding but were told that was no longer available. Instead, we decided to rent e-bikes. Calling what followed an "adventure" is an understatement. The terrain was extremely rough, rocky, and covered with loose gravel--something we were not adequately prepared for. Unfortunately, both of us wiped out and ended up with injuries. The area is beautiful and seeing the various livestock was fun, but equipping guests with more information about the trails would have been extremely helpful. Four women,ages 67 to 78 went zip lining! What an awesome experience! Our guides were extremely accommodating. Olivia let us climb the 200 steps at our own pace. She informed of everything we needed to know. There were no surprises. This was well worth the expense. We did not do the Pony Express package because of the lack of time. Why can't I give 6 stars. This place is awesome. The cabins are very clean and well maintained. There are activities all day long....horseback riding, hiking, rock climbing, zip lines, via parada, shooting and much more. The lodge is well maintained and has numerous indoor activities like pool, ping pong, fooseball, games, and a movie theater. The food is delicious and plentiful. But what makes the ranch truly special is the staff. The wranglers are awesome and ready to help even the most novice riders. The climbing guides are masters at their craft and patient beyond belief. Kids club for the little ones is exciting and fun. The barn loft has climbing walls, basketball, and sooooo much more. WiFi is available at the lodge and phone coverage is a bit spotty, but who needs that anyway. You'll be so busy, even teenagers won't notice. All in all, this trip exceeded all expectations. As a rock climber this was a great experience. You have plenty of routes to keep you happy and there was never a wait for routes! There are cliffs on both sides of the ranch and the hike in is easy work - no 10 mile hikes in! Tent camping available with pay showers is available for those wishing to rough it or go cheap! There were bathrooms, though I didn't check em out. The log cabin we stayed in had enough room to sleep 6 comfortably. The one main bedroom had a queen size bed, dresser, hanging rack, two night stands, and ceiling fan. The loft upstairs had 4 twin beds, which we put two together and made queens for the couples staying with us. It also, had two small dressers and hanging racks. There was a full bath with hot water. Lines were provided. There was a heat/cooling unit too in case it was needed, though we found the wood burning fireplace warm enough. The small kitchen was OK, though I do recommend bringing your kitchen supplies (as the only thing provided was a very small sink and microwave). The counter area fit a double burner camp stove and counter top oven just fine, so we were able to cook lots of yummy meals in our cabin. The ranch can provide you with meals at a cost, but we didn't purchase a package - as we were just there to climb. During our rain day (no climbing, booo hoooo) we discovered the Barn Loft. This provided a full day of activities for the adventurous types. A spelio box - cave simulation. Nothing works the brain out a bit like being in a maze that you can only crawl through. We also tested our balance by stacking milk crates and walking up milk crates. Add in some basketball and bouldering and you can get plenty of exercise for the day. We also made use of the lodge were multiple games of pool and ping pong were played. Bad points about this place: Parking was difficult as there was very little for the cabins and it wasn't marked out very well. It was also a bit confusing about the trash (where does it go?) and laundry (are they bringing us fresh towels at any point?). The front desk "kids" could be a bit more helpful upfront instead of us having to ask all the questions. Maybe a little pamphlet or something placed in the cabins to explain it all. Also they say they have a "hot" tub. Well it sure as heck wasn't "hot" at all. And when we asked the "kid" what was up, all we got was a shoulder shrug and "maybe the breaker tripped". Well they never did fix it. And if you want to ride a horse at the dude ranch ... you must purchase the "package", no individual deals to be found. But, overall, if you're looking for some fun in the outdoors and you want to visit Arkansas, I would highly recommend this place. We will certainly be back, maybe not for the extra amenities like the hot tub, but the rock is awesome! read more

Came here to hike and also my boyfriend wanted to climb. The area is nice, secluded, and quiet. I think next time we visit we will try to stay on ranch property in a cabin. Next time definitely want to go horse back riding! read more

As I type this, I'm in the lodge at the ranch, after rock climbing all morning and stuffed from a yummy lunch. This is our fourth time back, and we loved the experience every time. Each time we come, we do the all-inclusive experience, which means horseback riding, climbing, adventure course, and tons of really delicious food. One of my favorite parts about the ranch is the staff. They are ALWAYS game to help out, answer questions, and make sure whatever we are doing is tuned to our needs. They don't need to go the extra mile, but they always do, and with smiles on their faces. read more

I can't say enough positive things about HCR. First off, their property is amazing. But then they add on to that with a very friendly staff that seems to care about everyone who stays. I have been to HCR more times than I can count, starting in 2010 and have always had a great experience. I love that they added the zipline several years ago. It will test your courage, but the beautiful view during the long ride is totally worth the money and the required bravery. And all of that is on top of the most accessible, well-maintained, fun rock climbing I've ever seen. I'm so glad that the family that owns HCR makes it accessible to climbers and guests! read more

Went there recently as a newb sport climber/ Boulder Junkie, the staff is amazing and helpful in helping me find different areas to climb for my level of climbing. They have an amazing amount of different level routes varying in difficulty and length. The Bouldering is pure bliss I haven't seen so many different Bouldering Puzzles in such a small area. So much more than we expected! In the past we visited a dude ranch out west that cost twice as much and offered half as much. HCR was amazing for all family members ranging from 7 to 80 years old! The accommodations and food were incredible. (Must repeat:FOOD WAS INCREDIBLE) The endless amount of activities were fantastic, especially because the staff catered to each person's needs, wants and capabilities. The ranch was beautiful... the landscape, the buildings, the nighttime lighting (which didn't interfere with star gazing), the pool area, the lodgings, etc. and it felt magical with all the animals roaming around. There was a schedule so you knew all the options for the morning and afternoon, but the day wasn't "scheduled" - you could do what you wanted. You could choose to go with a crowd or choose the less crowded activities, and never miss a thing! our group consisted of my in-laws, their 3 sons & wives and their children. My kids are 16 & 18 y.o. boys and after they got the basics on horse riding and rock climbing, were allowed to move as quickly as their skill allowed to much more advanced riding and climbing. While their much younger cousins were also challenged at their levels. They also had good free wifi everywhere, but nobody had a cell signal. HCR is a reasonably-priced, fun-filled, gorgeous and special place! read more

This ranch offers both full service/all inclusive as well as cost effective adventures. My daughter and I camped and enjoyed a guided climb, which taught us a lot and was super fun. There are tons of shaded climbing routes and the rocks seem like they were made for climbing. There were routes for every type of climber. The campground was clean and well maintained. The bathrooms were adequate, and showers and fresh water were available close by. There is a trading post open during the daytime hours which has basic necessities and souvenirs. Our biggest surprise was that the animals (goats and horses) roam free on the ranch, which includes through the campground. They don't seem interested or bothered by people, but it was a surprise for us when we first arrived. Also, we arrived after the Trading Post was closed and had to search around for someone to tell us where to go, but finally did and it was fine. Also, the drive down into the ranch is often steep and bumpy gravel. Overall, we loved it. We will definitely go back, and will stay longer next time. read more

You will also find some amazing amenities. From Cabins with HVAC, showers, comfy beds and fluffy towels to tent areas with amazing views of the stars at night. I have been coming here for years in the winter. It is always laid back and the staff has always been awesome. That is until this year. I had not put my bracelet on yet and someone in my group had his get caught on a branch while trail running. We were yelled at by a guy in a white platinum f250/350. He was absolutely rude. Threatened to call the sheriff ect. If we did not turn around and go get the bracelets. We were picking up some gear we had left on the trail so one of us did turn back to go get the bracelets. He was followed all the way back to the cabin. When he got there he was told that he had to move a car. It turns out they guy in the truck was staying at the cabin right beside us. Why were we moving the car? well the guy in the truck was on a power trip. There is no other explanation. There were not other cars that needed to park where one of ours was and it was not blocking traffic. After spending several hundred dollars to rent a cabin I don't really feel like I should be treated like that. I hope the owners of Horseshoe Canyon Ranch will screen their employees better in the future. read more

If you just rent a cabin and not pay the full guest price to stay, you can not even buy food. They don't tell you that until you arrive so you will upgrade and spend many hundreds of dollars more so you can eat. There is a GREAT little place down the road to the west called Low Gap Store. The food is FIVE STAR! By the way, Horse Shoe Canyon Ranch has garbage everywhere and they don't seem to care. I don't thin we took two steps without someone stepping in crap from some animal. read more

Initially a good vacation, but the mood changed abruptly when one of the guests was killed horseback riding. My family and I witnessed him get thrown from his horse, hit his head, and then get trampled. He was unconscious and bleeding internally. Later we learned that he died in the hospital. I'm appalled that Horseshoe Canyon Ranch DOESN'T OFFER RIDING HELMETS! The terrain is extremely rocky and at times very steep, certainly no place for a beginner to start riding. I would definitely not recommend that children or the elderly ride the horses here. read more
