There charges are very high. I called them for some other service reagarding my heating system, they recommended me to replace my thermostat. They charged me $320 for the thermostat. I was ignorant about market price and agreed. Later, I found these devices cost $100 in Home Depot/Lowes. I asked for refund, but they said they cannot do anything. It is total reap off. Also, be careful about them, where they make customer sign to waive the right to cancel the transaction, which is applicable in PA. I hired them because of schedule - they do come out on Saturdays, so I do not have to take time off work. They charged $50 to come out and claimed they have a fully stocked truck can handle the job. However, an hour and half and $550 dollars later, they did not have the parts to hook up my dish washer. I still have to run to HD twice to finally get everything hooked up. If you want a double sink hooked up to a drain, get somebody else!!! My local plumber would only charge $250... Very polite customer service and competent repair workers. Very considerate in your house and easy to deal with. However, they were very expensive and they charged us a $80 fee just to come to the house, even though we paid them $500 to fix our heater. I always assumed service fees were charged when they came to your house but didn't fix anything. When we asked why they charged us so much for one of the heater parts and for the service fee, they automatically refunded it to us with no question. It was very apparent that they charged us these amounts intentionally and would just refund us if we called them on it. We bought a new system last summer. We went through the entire winter without heat. Today, the first day when we need A/C, we turned our 20k system on, and got 85 degree hot air instead of A/C. We bought a Lenox system...supposed to be top of the line. Either Horizon doesn't know what they are doing, or Lenox (sp?) doesn't know what they are doing. My gas furnace would not ignite, thereby blowing cold air through the vents. I have seen the advertising blitz by Horizon and decided to give them a try. The phone service reps were extremely curtious (maybe too gushing with the now typical saying " is there anything else I can help you with today?"). The tech arrived close to on time and before he began the diagnosis, he started taking about signing up for their $99 service plan. This plan would get a discount on todays work. After spending time diagnosing the problem, he said the Heat Sensor Switch was bad. The cost to replace, $465. If we buy the service plan, the cost would something like $395 and we'd get the annual checkup. My wife called me for my opinion and I said to pay him for the service call ($80) and I would call him later after i thought about it. I am a do-it-yourselfer, so I started searching to web to see if I could buy the heat sensor switch and replace it myself. I found some helpful videos on YouTube that said to clean the heat sensor first. I took out the sensor (very easy, by the way), sanded the residue off the sensor and replaced. I also made sure the other wire connections were secure (while the power was off) and then relaced the sensor. Turned everything back on and IT WORKED. Now, I am not an expert furnace repairman, but I think the Horizon guy saw an opportunity to make some money. Even if it did need a new sensor, $465 is RIDICULOUS. The part is $30 online and it take less than 15 minutes to install. The moral of the story, be very careful with Horizon, they pay alot of money for the advertising and need to make it back somehow. I recommend find a good old fashioned style smaller HVAC service co. through referrals and use them. You have a better chance at not getting ripped off. read more

Plumbing appointments can be made as late as 11 p.m. And in case of plumbing emergencies, we have experienced call-takers on duty until 11 PM Monday-Friday, Saturday-Sunday until 5 PM, and after hours all calls will be taken by an on-call manager. I called on 6/15/2015 because my water heater that was installed on 11/14/2014 was leaking and that the shut off valve that was installed cracked and I had water running everywhere in my home. No one could come out until the next day. That tech was prompt at 8:00 and removed damaged water heater ~ Stating that the installation was done wrong and the valve was not properly installed as well which clearly added to the water damage. It has been over a month and my children are still sleeping on mattresses in the living room. I was told that my case was "out sourced" so I guess Horizon no longer has to provide "good customer service". I 100% feel like I have been taken advantage of and Horizon clearly does not live up to the commercials. My family has been disrupted, my home has been damage, and there is absolutley no follow through by Horizon. There has been constant delays and not one person has followed through with being responsible for making sure my home is repaired timely. I called the Montgomery County PA location today due to a kitchen drain clog. They informed me it was under warranty since I had this cleared in March. At first I thought that was great until the scheduler came back on and said they'd be out Saturday. SInce today is only Monday, I told them not to bother and hung up. What service:( I won't bother to call them again. I next called a local plumber who was apologetic because he couldn't come until the next day, Tuesday. My 88 year old father's gas hot water heater would not light after many attempts. Seeing the Horizon Service commercials on TV so much I called to arrange a service for him. When the servicemen (yes there were 2) arrived they did a diagnostic of the heater and said the burner had a lot of dust and dirt buildup. He advised he could attempt to clean it and the cost would be $231.50 which included a $49.50 service call fee. The price seemed very high just for a cleaning, but my elderly father needed hot water. The serviceman said he was able to clean the burner and light the heater, but said the burner really should be replaced. I advised that the heater is not that old maybe 2-3 years and a new burner was not approved. The serviceman was preparing the invoice when I presented him with a discount coupon I found on Horizon's site for $37.50. This amount was deducted leaving a balance owe of $194.00 + $13.58 tax for a total of $207.58. I was advised what the cost would be prior, and for a moment thought about not having any work done, but as I said my dad needed the hot water, and if I declined service the $49.50 cost to come out was stilled owed. This entire diagnostic and cleaning took less then 30 minutes. The description list in the invoice stated Pull & Cleaned Burner Assembly $182.00. There were no parts replaced, it was simply a matter of the serviceman time. I still cannot fathom that a cleaning of a burner end up costing $207.58 with the coupon. Without it the cost would have been almost $250.00. Seems ridiculously high to me. I wonder what the cost would have been to replace the burner. Much, much higher I'm certain. Just a final note, the gas heater again is not that old, and It cost about $500.00 brand new, and installed through South Jersey Gas. Called for service, because, of course it is freezing out and my heater stopped working. We were given an appointment for the next day, 3 to 7, fine, we can survive one night without heat. Well the heater kicked on the next morning so we reluctantly cancelled our appointment. It stopped working again, and I called to reschedule, next available was 2 days away. This in itself was not the issue I have with this company, when I mentioned that it was too long for us to wait the scheduler snidely said, " Well you cancelled." The bad part was that he charged me a total $368.60 to replace a part that you can buy for less than $10. I have had a heating contract with them for 2 years. The guy serviced my heater and said I needed a part, but everything else was working. Roughly A week after he left I smelled gas in my basement. PECO immediately came out and found 2 little holes. They taped them off and told me to call a service guy to fix it. I called back Horizon - told them the situation and asked to have my part ordered. Fast forward 2 1/2 weeks and I have called back twice to get updates. Each time they act like they don't know who I am - I am passed around and in hold forever. I was seeking estimates for the replacement of an old Central System, now for reasons unknown to me the old unit was in the attic, and is the size of the type on small shopping centers, the vents are sound and install. basically all that is needed was a new compressor and drain pipe. I check the average range in my area, the chart showed the price based on 2,000 square foot home for a brand new never installed before unit $7200 average with range of $2600 to $15,000. Now I checked, my sq ft is 1200 sq ft. After the guy, showed up, he wanted to see the unit and vents, all fine, then told me likely I would need a new electric panel (though I informed him - was very new, a 220 box, with lots of room in it), he dismiss me as not knowing the details, once looking at it he sighed sadly no sale there for him, then he told my heater was no good, no heat from it (excuse me summer time, in 90s, why would a heater be on). So the back upstairs, and he notice that I information on my dining room table about MS, and stated the house needs to be colder than average for them, because of their disease. BINGO! His eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. The price $18,979. When I ask how did you get to the number, he told me "can only reveal when I sign for the job." Excuse no thanks, then he told me of his quota issues, how is that my problem? So $3,979 over the average limit, but again I already have the vents the biggest cost. They are a disaster. Steer clear of them. In the last few years we spent over $33,000.00 dollars with Horizon for a new complete a/c system and a new heating system. The a/c install was a complete circus, with our unit not being able to remain in its original spot on the day of install due to the salesman's error. The salesman was fired the next week but our a/c unit had to be decided on and moved on install day and now we are not happy with the location since it is near our porch and noisy. Since the a/c worked well so we decided to give them another try with the new heating system. Big mistake. It turned into a 2 month ordeal. Their subcontractor who installs the new oil chimney pipe did not mask anything in the basement throughout 7 days of drilling out the old pipe. Everything in our basement was covered in cement dust and we lost a lot of our non-cleanable items. Horizon had to hire a disaster cleanup company and they spent three weeks going thru and cleaning everything that could be cleaned in the basement. I had to be around to answer questions. I was so upset for the entire time it affected my health. I asked one of the Horizon workers if this happens often and he said "No, but when something does happen, it is usually really bad." Fantastic!!! What prompted me to write this today is that we are stuck with Horizon for service due to the warranty and I had an appointment on Halloween afternoon from 2-6 pm. Took off from work, then received a call from them that they had to cancel and they would not charge me for the next heater and a/c tune up if I would reschedule. I said okay and they put me in for today from 2-6. Took off again from work this afternoon and by 6 o'clock there was no service person phone call or arrival. I called customer service. Customer service in scheduling said the technician was an hour or more away. Couldn't have someone called me and told me he was backed up? They insist on a 4 hour window. I assume they just put me at the end of today's list since they canceled on me for Halloween. I had to go out tonight to pick up something I needed for the morning so I had to cancel. I am so furious that I wasted another afternoon. It doesn't do anything for me if the appointments are "free" if they don't show up. Don't believe their ads. Last summer, our a/c system stopped blowing cold air. It was 80 degrees in the house. I called Horizon and they came right out on a Sunday. They said we needed an entirely new system. The current system is 8 years old. They sent another guy out to sell us on the system and we said we'd think about it. In the meantime, they charged us $1100 to recharge the system. The charge lasted 10 minutes. I was referred to another company, Blue Bell HVAC. When I told the guy what happened, he immediately went to the outside A/C unit and looked inside (which Horizon never did). Sure enough, he found a crimp in the piping which created a hole over time. So the gentleman replaced what he needed to at 9PM on a Sunday. Everything worked perfectly. He said there is nothing wrong with the system. Yesterday, Memorial Day, our garbage disposal pipe separated; and water was leaking out. Because of the Horizon ads stating that they had 100 trucks at their disposal, I called them to fix this simple emergency. I was told that the earliest they could come out would be 2 days later (Wednesday), and that we would be placed on a "wait list." I couldn't be without a sink or dishwasher, so I called Mr. Rotor. They were able to come in less than an hour, and they only have 5 trucks. I guess that Horizon doesn't want their employees to work on holidays. I will never call them for anything. read more

Horizon is a SCAM!!! I had Horizon inspect my heater for an annual check-up. They told me that I needed my entire heater replaced and that carbon monoxide was coming into my home. When they started to tell me the prices for replacing my heater I told them that I would have to go through my insurance company. I should have known by the look on the guys face that it was a scam. He looked scared knowing that he was going to get caught. I called two separate heating companies to come out and inspect my heater. They both told me that my heater was in excellent condition and did not need to be replaced. They did the carbon monoxide test and the print out showed me that I was in the clear. Horizon never even did the test . The guy just told me that I had carbon monoxide in my house. I called Horizon and they told me that they are the only heating company certified to inspect for cracks in a heater. Obviously this is not true. I have been asking around and apparently Horizon is known for these kinds of scams and for over charging. Please stay away from Horizon. read more

Sales guy will try to bend you over with no lube. Out of the gate I told the guy our price range, which was in the neighborhood of $5,000. Horizon rep quoted me $10,600 to do an oil to gas boiler conversion that a more reputable company would do for $6,300. This is for a small, 1,000 square foot house that already has a gas line. Any company that takes a $5,000-6,000 job and manages to add 60% to the pricetag are grossly inflating cost (maybe an inefficient business model?) or taking advantage with needless upsells. Horizon: Stainless Steel chimney liner: $2,000 100,000 BTU gas unit 84%eff: $7,500 Remove oil tank (above ground): $750 Total: $10,600 Why were they trying to sell me an expensive stainless steel chimney liner when, per the internet, aluminum (which is far cheaper) is the ideal liner for venting gas? Liquid creosote is an issue for WOOD BURNING stoves, which require a stainless steel liner. This job estimate was for a GAS BURNING boiler. You don't need a unit that big to heat this small of a house- and he wanted to get me over 80,000 BTU so they would have to change my 3/4" gas pipe over to 1". All of this equates to more money- plus they were upcharging big time on the cost of the unit. Rep advised that "...its better to get a bigger unit so it doesn't have to work as hard." Then why is there a calculation available on countless sites that tells me exactly what size I need- which is far less than 100,000 BTU? He also tried to make it sound like the warranty was special, when everything it actually comes with the boiler anyway. I could have installed a higher efficiency unit through a company other than Horizon, for the same price they quoted me on a mid level unit. Beware. This company told me I needed a new heater when there was absolutely nothing wrong with my heater - and I had called them for my A/C, NOT my heater. Then on top of it, they told me that my A/C wouldn't work with the recommended heater so I needed a new A/C unit as well. I called them to do my annual preventative maintenance on my A/C. While the technician was there (in July on a very hot day), he decided to "do me a favor" and also check the heat exchanger on my gas furnace. Then he told me during this inspection, he found that rust had caused a crack and that if I turned it on, I risked getting carbon monoxide poisoning. I found this very surprising since my heater was 14 years old, inspected annually and never had any problem whatsoever. they offered to have another technician come out and confirm the problem. I took them up on this offer, and the 2nd technician confirmed that I had a crack in my heat exchanger due to rust. They then offered to send a sales rep out to give me an estimate for replacing my heater. The sales rep suggested a few options, and then also recommended I replace my A/C at the same time. The price was outrageous so I decided to get a second quote. The technician from the 2nd company told me it would be very unusual to have a cracked heat exchanger in a 14 year old Carrier furnace, but if I did, my heat exchanger was under warranty and it would cost $600 to install the free replacement. I had him come out expecting that he would replace the heat exchanger, but when he looked at my furnace he said all it had was a little bit of surface rust that he could easily scrape off (and he did) and that otherwise my furnace was clean and in excellent condition. He also said that Horizon was wrong when they told me I risked getting carbon monoxide if I turned my furnace on if it had a crack - my furnace has a safety switch and the heater would shut off if the heat exchanger was cracked. I think Horizon just didn't want me to figure out that my heater was working. I also wrote this up on angie's list and they did refund the cost of my preventative maintenance, which was appreciated, but doesn't change the fact that they tried to sell me a new heater when there was absolutely nothing wrong with mine. We called Horizon Tuesday morning, they came out first thing Wednesday morning to inspect our system. Jose arrived during the time window they provide. He was friendly and knowledgeable. He inspected the heating system, replaced the filter, and recommended we replace the system as its old and rusting, causing to it to leak outside. We were expecting to have to replace it anyhow since it is the original system in our condo. He called the office and set up an appointment to have a sales man come out. We were previously customers of ServiceMark and had a service plan that includes yearly heating and AC unit tune ups (we have separate systems). I called and made an appointment back in September and that's when I found out that ServiceMark was acquired by Horizon, but they said that they would still honor all the service agreements so no issues there. They didn't have an appointment until early November, so the technician came out last week and upon looking at our furnace and sending pictures to his manager told me that neither he nor anyone else at Horizon was able to service it anymore because they were all unfamiliar with it. I don't know anything about HVAC, but honestly I'm pretty surprised that a large company like Horizon doesn't employ a single technician that is familiar with our furnace. Additionally, this must mean that all of the ServiceMark technicians were let go, because they were all able to service it. The Horizon technician was very professional and apologetic, and I am giving 2 (2.5 if I could!) because they are going to refund us the money for the service plan. But now I will have to pay every year for a tune up, and it's much more expensive than even what Horizon typically charges without a plan. I'm very disappointed that this happened. read more

When scheduling the appointment for a hot water heater that needed a new thermocouple, we told them the year, make and model of the heater. They told us they would have the part. When the service guy got here, he told us they "didn't recommend fixing it" but would replace the hot water heater for $1400 or up. Forget it. Last night we lost our outdoor heating unit, of course it had to be below 15 degrees, so we called Horizon and they were absolutely incredible!! We literally called at 10:50 and they close at 11, talk about service. They were able to get a technician out as early as 8 AM the next day. Our technician Frank D was absolutely wonderful, he was thorough, Took the time to explain everything , completely repaired our unit , got in touch with our landlord and settled everything for us. We will definitely recommend horizon to any of her friends and family or anyone who needs them. Frank took care of everything within a couple hours and was able to get the parts the same day!! Terrible recent experience with a pre-paid central air "tune up" service. We had a technician here yesterday who worked on the main system as well as outdoor unit for 30-45 minutes doing who knows what. Fast forward to today, our air conditioning system won't even turn on (approx. 24 hours after the technician left). We called an alternate company to come take a look. The individual who came today took two minutes looking at our main system before he approached me with an honest, concerned look and said "who was here last and what did they do?" I had a funny feeling he'd be asking me that question. He proceeded to diagnose our system and determined that the Horizon representative not only disconnected a high heat limit switch (which is a safety violation), but he also snipped and capped a wire that tied directly to our circuit breaker, causing the system to short and not operate. These were obvious, blatant issues done for no reason at all aside from our system ceasing to operate and the potential for us to need to call Horizon to come out, and get paid for...again. Never. Never again. I have lost all trust in this company. Do NOT call them! read more

If I could give a zero, I would. I have an old home, newer (10-15 years old) boiler with hot water radiators. Noticed this winter that some rooms/radiators aren't getting warm. With guests coming for the holiday, I was worried about our third floor which seemed on the cold side to me. I called Horizon. They sent a tech, did a "tune up" for $89, and told me I had some serious problems with my furnace. Parts and labor we're going to be pricey. Repairs were quoted to me to be over $3000. And the tech was quick to try to hook me up for a free estimate for a completely new furnace. He told me, if you've got to spend that much money, you may as well get a new system. He did not fix the problem, only did the tune up and left me the $3000 estimate for repairs. I was skeptical, thank goodness. I called another heating service the next day and the problem was solved in just a few hours. Total cost of the repair was just over $100. I cannot believe I almost fell for the scam of Horizon. I am pretty sure they spend a ton of money on advertising to get in the door, then scare you into thinking you need a total overhaul. I also suspect the techs get incentivized for customers who get heating system replacements. I am honestly amazed they have not been put out of business for fraudulent practices. Horizon advertises itself as being 24 hours and for not charging extra for service on weekends or holidays. Well, that is wonderful if you can actually get someone dispatched. I had horizon install 2 new units in my house about 4 years ago at a cost of about $25K. They are under warranty. This Friday evening one of the units shut down and produced no heat. There was a flashing error code. I do understand that it is a Friday night and immediate response might not be possible, but they tell me on Friday night that the first available is Tuesday mid-day. I have a house full of kids and pets, and the response is to wait 4 days for a technician to figure out why my under warranty unit is not working?!? I am sorry but that just does not work. I will say that I thought Horizon did a good job installing the units, but their service care is not acceptable. I had to find another company to come out and do what Horizon told me they would do. Very disappointing! Please consider service before buying a new unit from Horizon. I have called Horizon on two occasions to get service. Once to relocate an AC unit and service it and a second time to repair a broken sewer line under my house. On both occasions they said that although this is work they do every day they were unwilling to provide that service to me and said look elsewhere! So just a heads up they will tell you to pound sand if they didn't originally install your equipment (excuse given for AC unit service) and secondly they said if I had sewer flies ( common everywhere in Yardley) they are not going to help you. They were cordial both times but basically wanted nothing to do with me. Sounds like they only work with very basic repairs and are unwilling to help customers unless they fall in a very narrow range of " eligibility". What a joke. I wouldn't be surprised if they backed out of a job half way through or leave you hanging after they make their first visit. read more

I knew they would be expensive but the charge was outrageous. our capacitor had gone bad, again. we had previously replaced it twice. the tech had immediately identified the issue and quoted us $180.00 to replace the capacitor on top of the $79.00 dispatch fee. we have replaced this part before and the part is only 35.00, installed by local provider is about $100.00, as it only takes a minute to install. we had asked the tech about replacing the outside unit and fed us some line that we had to replace the complete (inside and outside) unit for 7000.00!!! my husband is a commercial electrician, we replaced the capacitor ourselves and got a quote from a local provider to replace our outside condenser for under $1400.00 or a complete unit with a new heater for $3500.00. i would give them 1 star but they showed up on time. read more

Horizon told me leaky mop faucet could not be fixed and must be replaced. Gave me a price of $850. Local plumber replaced corroded stems and washers for $125 inclusive. Horizon plumber didn't even pull the stems out to look at them. Beware predatory practices. read more

I called Horizon just about 10 years ago. It was a cold night and I came home to find I had no heating in my house. Having heard commercials stating that Horizon was available 24 hours a day, I called and they promptly sent out a technician. After introductions, the tech made an offhand comment about my suit and that "it looked liked I did alright for myself ". I was really put off by the comment, but was in a tough position. I took him to the basement, showed him my system and asked specifically that he check first to see if it was the thermal coupler. He immediately dismissed my request, looked at things for about 5-10 minutes and declared I needed a whole new system, to the tune of $9000.00. He told he could place the order right then and that they would be back in the morning to install. I was somewhat hesitant to make such a large purchase without researching my options, but he was insistent that I needed a new system ASAP. After he left, I immediately called a friend who does plumbing and heating and explained the situation. My friend came right over and after looking at the system for a few minutes, confirmed that I needed a thermal coupler. He got one from the truck, replaced it and the heater fired right up. The whole thing took 30 minutes; I paid him $100 for his troubles versus the thousands of dollars quoted by Horizon. When I called the Horizon tech to cancel the order, he got very upset and insisted I needed a new system. When I finally told him "No, cancel the order", he last words to me were "Don't blame me if you come home from work and find your dogs dead". (My dogs slept in basement in boxes near the heater when I was out.) That was 10 years ago. I still have the same system which is cleaned & serviced annually by a local reputable business. The reason I remember this situation so vividly is that it occurred on my birthday. Every time I see or hear a commercial from these frauds, it makes my skin crawl. Maybe they have some good techs, but my experience was so bad, I'd never call them again or recommend them to anyone else. And please do not have anyone from Horizon contact me. Called Horizon to install a new sump pump. I had the sump pump and check valve so all I needed was to have it installed. Their was about 6 inches of water on the floor. The two techs arrived and did NOT bring boots. They gave me a price of $644 for just labor. When I told them that my last sump pump install INCLUDING the pump and check valve was $325, they told me that they could not even come close to that price. They left. I thought about the problem and found a way to get the water out myself. I called the company that did the last sump pump install and they installed the new sump pump and check valve I supplied for $100. Yes I typed correctly - $100 and that included some pvc pipe, a ferco connector, and a screw in fitting. All for $100. BTW, the other company came out in just over an hour and was done with the install in 30 minutes. Can you say Horizon Services was OVERCHARGING - BIG YES. And NOT prepared. You decide. read more

Don't call Horizon Services for a Water Treatment System. Purchased a $5,000 dollar System 12/26/18. Had my 1st problem 7/12/2019. the Pre-Filter was clogged with sludge. Water would not pass. Called Horizon Services at 8:00am, 7/12/2019. Told me the tech would be out to our home at 3:00pm. then it was 4:00pm, no tech, then it was 6:00pm no tech, then it was 8:00pm no tech. Called Horizon Services back and was told that they could not get in contact with Matt the Tech, no last name. Was told someone would call me back. NO CALL. Now its 7/13/2019, 10:25am. I called Horizon Services again and was told that they did not know what happened to my appointment from the day before and that Matt the Tech was booked today, I would have to wait till Monday or one day next week. I was upset! I told her that I need this fixed today, she told me basically that is just too bad. I asked to speak to a supervisor, she told me that there were no supervisors available to talk to me! She then went on about how Matt was booked today, again! I was so frustrated I hung up. I have a friend who is a plumber, he came over right away and cleaned the filter. Horrible service! Didn't take the time to explain the situation or correctly identity the year of our unit ( which required reading the year of the label). Told us to replace the whole system $10k, v replace the part $3k, because it was 20 years old. The system is 8 years old (on the label). Other services quoted $1500! read more
