My gas furnace would not ignite, thereby blowing cold air through the vents. I have seen the advertising blitz by Horizon and decided to give them a try. The phone service reps were extremely curtious (maybe too gushing with the now typical saying " is there anything else I can help you with today?"). The tech arrived close to on time and before he began the diagnosis, he started taking about signing up for their $99 service plan. This plan would get a discount on todays work. After spending time diagnosing the problem, he said the Heat Sensor Switch was bad. The cost to replace, $465. If we buy the service plan, the cost would something like $395 and we'd get the annual checkup. My wife called me for my opinion and I said to pay him for the service call ($80) and I would call him later after i thought about it. I am a do-it-yourselfer, so I started searching to web to see if I could buy the heat sensor switch and replace it myself. I found some helpful videos on YouTube that said to clean the heat sensor first. I took out the sensor (very easy, by the way), sanded the residue off the sensor and replaced. I also made sure the other wire connections were secure (while the power was off) and then relaced the sensor. Turned everything back on and IT WORKED. Now, I am not an expert furnace repairman, but I think the Horizon guy saw an opportunity to make some money. Even if it did need a new sensor, $465 is RIDICULOUS. The part is $30 online and it take less than 15 minutes to install. The moral of the story, be very careful with Horizon, they pay alot of money for the advertising and need to make it back somehow. I recommend find a good old fashioned style smaller HVAC service co. through referrals and use them. You have a better chance at not getting ripped off. read more

Don't Call Horizon Services If You have An Emergency. We have a fairly big leak and called Horizon on Wednesday. They said they can come out on Monday! From Their website: Late Nights, Weekends, And Holidays At No Extra Charge: We don't fit the Monday through Friday, 9a.m.-5p.m. schedule. Service records show that 43% of our customer's plumbing problems occur after 5 p.m. This is why we offer extended service hours for our customer's convenience. Plumbing appointments can be made as late as 11 p.m. And in case of plumbing emergencies, we have experienced call-takers on duty until 11 PM Monday-Friday, Saturday-Sunday until 5 PM, and after hours all calls will be taken by an on-call manager. We complete 98% of all plumbing service calls the same day that you call and schedule. So much for truth in advertising! read more

They failed to make the appointment time to service my heater...I lost a days work waiting for them. When I called them they told me their earliest appointment was in 1 month and 1 day....What a joke. My heater is down for a month. I have a service contract with them ....they took my money and now don't give a hoot.. I had to call another company. My sister warned me. She called them to clean her heater.. the very unprofessional guy showed up and said the heater is too dirty to work on....She said thats why I called you ... He tried to upsale her an expansion tank etc. for $1000. She threw him out and called a local guy...took care of everything for $69. SCAM ALERT. Levittown - Bensalem read more

I called on 6/15/2015 because my water heater that was installed on 11/14/2014 was leaking and that the shut off valve that was installed cracked and I had water running everywhere in my home. No one could come out until the next day. That tech was prompt at 8:00 and removed damaged water heater ~ Stating that the installation was done wrong and the valve was not properly installed as well which clearly added to the water damage. It has been over a month and my children are still sleeping on mattresses in the living room. I was told that my case was "out sourced" so I guess Horizon no longer has to provide "good customer service". I 100% feel like I have been taken advantage of and Horizon clearly does not live up to the commercials. My family has been disrupted, my home has been damage, and there is absolutley no follow through by Horizon. There has been constant delays and not one person has followed through with being responsible for making sure my home is repaired timely. I wonder if the owner of Horizon had his home was damaged because of a water heater leak or valve leak, would he be put out for well over a month waiting for repairs? read more

Feel like I got ripped off like a previous poster. Said my heater was in great shape, but the AC condenser was going bad and I needed a new capacitor. I paid, 450$ service for everything, then read 2 more reviews where they had the same problem and bought the same part in the same week. Now I turned my heater on, and its loud as helll. Never been this loud before, only difference was your company in the last 3 years. Your solution- come out and look at it, but charge me 80$ if u dont think its your mistake. Thanks, but Im not taking that chance. Oh, and we had the service done in August because we are expecting. Now the baby is due sunday and I have to scramble to get the heater fixed. read more

I called the Montgomery County PA location today due to a kitchen drain clog. They informed me it was under warranty since I had this cleared in March. At first I thought that was great until the scheduler came back on and said they'd be out Saturday. SInce today is only Monday, I told them not to bother and hung up. What service:( I won't bother to call them again. I next called a local plumber who was apologetic because he couldn't come until the next day, Tuesday. Without asking he offered the # of someone who could come out today! Think small business, more personal. read more

My 88 year old father's gas hot water heater would not light after many attempts. Seeing the Horizon Service commercials on TV so much I called to arrange a service for him. When the servicemen (yes there were 2) arrived they did a diagnostic of the heater and said the burner had a lot of dust and dirt buildup. He advised he could attempt to clean it and the cost would be $231.50 which included a $49.50 service call fee. The price seemed very high just for a cleaning, but my elderly father needed hot water. The serviceman said he was able to clean the burner and light the heater, but said the burner really should be replaced. I advised that the heater is not that old maybe 2-3 years and a new burner was not approved. The serviceman was preparing the invoice when I presented him with a discount coupon I found on Horizon's site for $37.50. This amount was deducted leaving a balance owe of $194.00 + $13.58 tax for a total of $207.58. I was advised what the cost would be prior, and for a moment thought about not having any work done, but as I said my dad needed the hot water, and if I declined service the $49.50 cost to come out was stilled owed. This entire diagnostic and cleaning took less then 30 minutes. The description list in the invoice stated Pull & Cleaned Burner Assembly $182.00. There were no parts replaced, it was simply a matter of the serviceman time. I still cannot fathom that a cleaning of a burner end up costing $207.58 with the coupon. Without it the cost would have been almost $250.00. Seems ridiculously high to me. I wonder what the cost would have been to replace the burner. Much, much higher I'm certain. Just a final note, the gas heater again is not that old, and It cost about $500.00 brand new, and installed through South Jersey Gas. I don't mind paying a fair cost for any service, but in my opinion this was too absorbent. I will not recommend, nor use Horizon Services again. read more

Only needed a bathroom faucet replaced. Called Horizon based on their email ad. "We will send a technician out free of charge for an estimate." Total estimate for a faucet I already had purchased; $654 labor. Over $900 if U joint needed replacement (it was already new). Called my local heating and plumbing service, $128. Took less than an hour. Steer well clear of Horizon Services! You are only paying their marketing costs. read more

My 20 year old hot water heater started leaking on a Saturday night. The next morning I placed a service call with Horizon. They arrived promptly. The technican tried to sell me a hot water heater for almost $3,000 installed. They presented two other lower priced options at $2,400 and $1,950 respectively. They explained my existing 50 gallon unit couldn't simply be replaced; I needed to go with a 30 gallon unit instead and use a mixing valve and a reserve tank to compensate for the size difference. They did not leave me any of the information quoted in writing. To top it off the technician tried to sell me an HVAC service package. Really?!? I used Home Depot who subsequently came out the following day and installed a replacement 50 gallon unit with a 6 year warranty for $873 (including the permit) and provided 6-months interest free financing!! The pros: -timely -did not charge for the visit The cons: -tried to take advantage of an urgent need -overpriced -said my existing unit couldn't be replaced; it could -tried to sell me maintenance package for my HVAC unit read more

I've used Horizon for a few years and signed up for one of their contracts. They were always good about scheduling appointments and seemed knowledgeable about their work. I started to realize that they never really fixed anything (except the plumber who I had to tell what to do.) They just gave suggestions and wanted me to buy a new system. Over the July 4th weekend the AC stopped blowing cold air. Once again they came out and said I needed a new system. I contacted another company who came out and fixed the one wire a mouse had chewed on. Saved me THOUSANDS of dollars. I will not be using them again. read more

Total rip-off. The service man told me I needed $1800 in repairs for my central AC. When he left the heat would not go on. I had a local company with a good reputation look at it. They got the AC in good working condition for $238. Also he showed me where a wire to the heater had been deliberately cut! Stay away. read more

I've been a satisfied customer of Horizon for years. My family's kitchen sink had a clogged drain today and Horizon dispatched a technician in a timely manner. Upon scheduling, the representative confirmed that Horizon employees were supplied with masks and gloves to wear when entering residences in order to protect customers. Unfortunately, the technician sent to our home had neither gloves nor a mask. When my elderly, disabled (and immune-compromised) parents asked him to wear a mask, the technician responded that he, "couldn't breathe while wearing a mask" - as a result, my family was unnecessarily put at risk amid what can likely be described as the most serious public health crisis in the United States in more than a century. Horizon lists their primary core value as, "Always do the right thing" - unfortunately, the technician and (by extension) the Company on a whole failed to adhere to their stated core value and have unnecessarily jeopardized my family's health and wellbeing. In this specific example, it would appear that Horizon is operating with a "business as usual" approach, at least in a customer facing capacity. I'm extremely disappointed with Horizon. I called customer service today, and asked to speak with the service supervisor. I was offered an apology by the customer service representative and assured that the service supervisor would call me today to discuss my concerns. Several hours have now passed with no communication whatsoever. In any event, the exposure and risk to my family has already occurred, and I can now only hope that calling Horizon in the midst of a pandemic won't (in hindsight) be a fatally regrettable decision. In the interim, who knows how many other potential customers this technician might be putting at risk. Horizon's careless approach (as they obviously aren't taking seriously even the most basic precautions espoused by federal and state authorities) has the potential to impact any number of their staff and customers alike. As a result, I'd strongly urge anyone (current or prospective customers) to avoid using Horizon Services as it is abundantly clear that the risks posed by COVID-19 are not being taken seriously by the Company. Again, I would have been happy to discuss my perspective and concerns with a service supervisor or member of the management team, but my request for a call back has been ignored. read more

Last summer, our a/c system stopped blowing cold air. It was 80 degrees in the house. I called Horizon and they came right out on a Sunday. They said we needed an entirely new system. The current system is 8 years old. They sent another guy out to sell us on the system and we said we'd think about it. In the meantime, they charged us $1100 to recharge the system. The charge lasted 10 minutes. I was referred to another company, Blue Bell HVAC. When I told the guy what happened, he immediately went to the outside A/C unit and looked inside (which Horizon never did). Sure enough, he found a crimp in the piping which created a hole over time. So the gentleman replaced what he needed to at 9PM on a Sunday. Everything worked perfectly. He said there is nothing wrong with the system. Cost me $850, but its a lot less than what Horizon wanted to charge me for an entire system. read more

Horizon is a SCAM!!! I had Horizon inspect my heater for an annual check-up. They told me that I needed my entire heater replaced and that carbon monoxide was coming into my home. When they started to tell me the prices for replacing my heater I told them that I would have to go through my insurance company. I should have known by the look on the guys face that it was a scam. He looked scared knowing that he was going to get caught. I called two separate heating companies to come out and inspect my heater. They both told me that my heater was in excellent condition and did not need to be replaced. They did the carbon monoxide test and the print out showed me that I was in the clear. Horizon never even did the test . The guy just told me that I had carbon monoxide in my house. I called Horizon and they told me that they are the only heating company certified to inspect for cracks in a heater. Obviously this is not true. I have been asking around and apparently Horizon is known for these kinds of scams and for over charging. Please stay away from Horizon. read more

Beware. This company told me I needed a new heater when there was absolutely nothing wrong with my heater - and I had called them for my A/C, NOT my heater. Then on top of it, they told me that my A/C wouldn't work with the recommended heater so I needed a new A/C unit as well. I called them to do my annual preventative maintenance on my A/C. While the technician was there (in July on a very hot day), he decided to "do me a favor" and also check the heat exchanger on my gas furnace. Then he told me during this inspection, he found that rust had caused a crack and that if I turned it on, I risked getting carbon monoxide poisoning. I found this very surprising since my heater was 14 years old, inspected annually and never had any problem whatsoever. they offered to have another technician come out and confirm the problem. I took them up on this offer, and the 2nd technician confirmed that I had a crack in my heat exchanger due to rust. They then offered to send a sales rep out to give me an estimate for replacing my heater. The sales rep suggested a few options, and then also recommended I replace my A/C at the same time. The price was outrageous so I decided to get a second quote. The technician from the 2nd company told me it would be very unusual to have a cracked heat exchanger in a 14 year old Carrier furnace, but if I did, my heat exchanger was under warranty and it would cost $600 to install the free replacement. I had him come out expecting that he would replace the heat exchanger, but when he looked at my furnace he said all it had was a little bit of surface rust that he could easily scrape off (and he did) and that otherwise my furnace was clean and in excellent condition. He also said that Horizon was wrong when they told me I risked getting carbon monoxide if I turned my furnace on if it had a crack - my furnace has a safety switch and the heater would shut off if the heat exchanger was cracked. I think Horizon just didn't want me to figure out that my heater was working. I also wrote this up on angie's list and they did refund the cost of my preventative maintenance, which was appreciated, but doesn't change the fact that they tried to sell me a new heater when there was absolutely nothing wrong with mine. (my heater was been working just fine all winter - 9 months after Horizon told me it would cause CO poisoning if I turned it on read more

Horizon Services recently purchased the Service Mark Heating, Cooling and Plumbing Company which includes its customers contracts and services. In 2013 Service Mark installed a new heating and cooling system. Warranty 10 years for parts and 5 years for labor. Service Mark has serviced the systems since their installation. Now enters HORIZON. We called to schedule the air conditioner service appointment and we are told they can not service, will not honor relationship we've had with Service Mark. [Note we have additional family properties that are serviced by Service Mark/ Horizon]. Reason: Horizon, new owner, its in the wrong zip code. This property is literally ten (9) homes in from a different zip code. They referred us to a Business locator. So this is what Horizon Customer Service really looks like when one gets past the great commercial sound bites. We will not be sharing the works of Horizon. I will be sharing this experience at every opportunity. For over twenty(20) years we have had only positive results from Service Mark. ZERO stars read more

When you absolutely want to pay twice as much for the worst service around call horizon. These criminals will come out for a service and then presser elderly customers into buying a new heating system that they do not need and tell we need to do it tomorrow if you want a "discount". This is all because they don't what them to have time to talk to anyone or get second quote because they are charging double what it should be and there was nothing wrong with the old system other than needing a cleaning. When scheduling the appointment for a hot water heater that needed a new thermocouple, we told them the year, make and model of the heater. They told us they would have the part. When the service guy got here, he told us they "didn't recommend fixing it" but would replace the hot water heater for $1400 or up. Forget it. We've used Horizon for the last few years for routine servicing of our furnace but no longer. To make a long story short I called to have my furnance tuned up. I was told I should replace my furnance for approximately $5500.00. Or replace the part for $1400. I had heat when they arrived and had NO heat once they left. I contacted my warranty company that came out the very next day. However horizon told me it would take 1 week for them to come out. If I could give a zero, I would. I have an old home, newer (10-15 years old) boiler with hot water radiators. Noticed this winter that some rooms/radiators aren't getting warm. With guests coming for the holiday, I was worried about our third floor which seemed on the cold side to me. I called Horizon. They sent a tech, did a "tune up" for $89, and told me I had some serious problems with my furnace. Parts and labor we're going to be pricey. Repairs were quoted to me to be over $3000. And the tech was quick to try to hook me up for a free estimate for a completely new furnace. He told me, if you've got to spend that much money, you may as well get a new system. He did not fix the problem, only did the tune up and left me the $3000 estimate for repairs. I was skeptical, thank goodness. I called another heating service the next day and the problem was solved in just a few hours. Total cost of the repair was just over $100. I cannot believe I almost fell for the scam of Horizon. I am pretty sure they spend a ton of money on advertising to get in the door, then scare you into thinking you need a total overhaul. I also suspect the techs get incentivized for customers who get heating system replacements. I am honestly amazed they have not been put out of business for fraudulent practices. Don't even bother with this company unless you want to be gouged and taken advantage of. read more

The tech was on time snd knew what he was doing. Took him yo identify the problem and replace capacitor. The bad part was that he charged me a total $368.60 to replace a part that you can buy for less than $10. I was seeking estimates for the replacement of an old Central System, now for reasons unknown to me the old unit was in the attic, and is the size of the type on small shopping centers, the vents are sound and install. basically all that is needed was a new compressor and drain pipe. I check the average range in my area, the chart showed the price based on 2,000 square foot home for a brand new never installed before unit $7200 average with range of $2600 to $15,000. Now I checked, my sq ft is 1200 sq ft. After the guy, showed up, he wanted to see the unit and vents, all fine, then told me likely I would need a new electric panel (though I informed him - was very new, a 220 box, with lots of room in it), he dismiss me as not knowing the details, once looking at it he sighed sadly no sale there for him, then he told my heater was no good, no heat from it (excuse me summer time, in 90s, why would a heater be on). So the back upstairs, and he notice that I information on my dining room table about MS, and stated the house needs to be colder than average for them, because of their disease. BINGO! His eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. The price $18,979. When I ask how did you get to the number, he told me "can only reveal when I sign for the job." Excuse no thanks, then he told me of his quota issues, how is that my problem? So $3,979 over the average limit, but again I already have the vents the biggest cost. But he tops it, telling me the price could go up more! read more

The salesperson was very nice and respectful. He gave us an excellent option for our old stone farmhouse with the Mitsubishi mini-split heaters/AC units but the final "ballpark" was an obnoxious price of 30K to 45K - we are just talking about an HVAC system & installation. He did not give us another option like using the existing propane and baseboard heating~ we did want to get away from the baseboard but it could still be an option. The cost of the system for our small house seemed really unreasonable almost as if he did not want the job and just high "balled" the job. I felt as if we just wasted our time - I can't imagine anyone purchasing a system for that price - I don't think Mitsubishi would still be the business of the mini-splits heaters/AC's if the price were that high ... no one would purchase the system for their home. It was especially frustrating when we simply looked online at prices for the units & installation and they were significantly cheaper. As I read reviews I am seeing that Horizon seems to be somewhat of a scam company. I'm sorry we wasted our time read more

We had a leak in the basement. Thought we needed waterproof. First company said he thought there was a crack in the inside wall but couldn't tell till the paneling was removed. But that was his specialty and could definitely fix it. Second waterproof company's rep told us it was a crack in the foundation outside and would have to dig up all the bushes to find it. It was their specialty and would definitely fix it. The third basement specialist told us it was the well around the the window that was leaking. Again with no proof but he could guarantee that was the problem and his specialty. All theses had estimates over $3000. I showed the water area to your tech who was working on my heater. He said I should call a plumber. I called your office and your plumber, Jayson arrived the next day. He found the problem, a crack in the sewer pipe. Had to cut a hole in the dining room wall to remove the cracked section and install the PVC pipe. No more leak. The cost was less than half of each of the phony proposals I received. read more

I have called Horizon on two occasions to get service. Once to relocate an AC unit and service it and a second time to repair a broken sewer line under my house. On both occasions they said that although this is work they do every day they were unwilling to provide that service to me and said look elsewhere! So just a heads up they will tell you to pound sand if they didn't originally install your equipment (excuse given for AC unit service) and secondly they said if I had sewer flies ( common everywhere in Yardley) they are not going to help you. They were cordial both times but basically wanted nothing to do with me. Sounds like they only work with very basic repairs and are unwilling to help customers unless they fall in a very narrow range of " eligibility". What a joke. I wouldn't be surprised if they backed out of a job half way through or leave you hanging after they make their first visit. read more

Almost immediately after posting I received a call & the service was scheduled for the Monday following. Manny came out & performed it satisfactorily but I refused to prepay again for next year even though I was encouraged to, After having this experience happen twice this year, I have lost faith in the company to prioritize their existing customers and, frankly, I don't want to have to have supervisors intervene every time I need to schedule maintenance, When the company can assure me that we'll get a priority service or revert to their previous notification policy, perhaps I'll feel differently. As it stands, I'll get in line with everyone else or, perhaps, find a company that really appreciates its existing customers. Word of caution to management, though. had horizon come out to my home to check my ac unit. they were on time and they tech was very nice. This in itself was not the issue I have with this company, when I mentioned that it was too long for us to wait the scheduler snidely said, " Well you cancelled." Called Horizon to install a new sump pump. I had the sump pump and check valve so all I needed was to have it installed. Their was about 6 inches of water on the floor. The two techs arrived and did NOT bring boots. They gave me a price of $644 for just labor. When I told them that my last sump pump install INCLUDING the pump and check valve was $325, they told me that they could not even come close to that price. They left. I thought about the problem and found a way to get the water out myself. I called the company that did the last sump pump install and they installed the new sump pump and check valve I supplied for $100. Yes I typed correctly - $100 and that included some pvc pipe, a ferco connector, and a screw in fitting. All for $100. I have had a heating contract with them for 2 years. The guy serviced my heater and said I needed a part, but everything else was working. Roughly A week after he left I smelled gas in my basement. PECO immediately came out and found 2 little holes. They taped them off and told me to call a service guy to fix it. I called back Horizon - told them the situation and asked to have my part ordered. Fast forward 2 1/2 weeks and I have called back twice to get updates. Each time they act like they don't know who I am - I am passed around and in hold forever. I I also think they would be more concerned about fixing my lines. Also, had a plumbing issue that was an easy fix and the guy kept looking for things to make it worth his visit. Be careful. They are a disaster. Steer clear of them. In the last few years we spent over $33,000.00 dollars with Horizon for a new complete a/c system and a new heating system. The a/c install was a complete circus, with our unit not being able to remain in its original spot on the day of install due to the salesman's error. The salesman was fired the next week but our a/c unit had to be decided on and moved on install day and now we are not happy with the location since it is near our porch and noisy. Since the a/c worked well so we decided to give them another try with the new heating system. Big mistake. It turned into a 2 month ordeal. Their subcontractor who installs the new oil chimney pipe did not mask anything in the basement throughout 7 days of drilling out the old pipe. Everything in our basement was covered in cement dust and we lost a lot of our non-cleanable items. Horizon had to hire a disaster cleanup company and they spent three weeks going thru and cleaning everything that could be cleaned in the basement. I had to be around to answer questions. I was so upset for the entire time it affected my health. I asked one of the Horizon workers if this happens often and he said "No, but when something does happen, it is usually really bad." Fantastic!!! What prompted me to write this today is that we are stuck with Horizon for service due to the warranty and I had an appointment on Halloween afternoon from 2-6 pm. Took off from work, then received a call from them that they had to cancel and they would not charge me for the next heater and a/c tune up if I would reschedule. I said okay and they put me in for today from 2-6. Took off again from work this afternoon and by 6 o'clock there was no service person phone call or arrival. I called customer service. Customer service in scheduling said the technician was an hour or more away. Couldn't have someone called me and told me he was backed up? They insist on a 4 hour window. I assume they just put me at the end of today's list since they canceled on me for Halloween. I had to go out tonight to pick up something I needed for the morning so I had to cancel. I am so furious that I wasted another afternoon. It doesn't do anything for me if the appointments are "free" if they don't show up. Don't believe their ads. We don't not recommend them to anyone. read more
