For a savory flavor, the Chipotle Spice is a Team favorite. We love the sweeter flavors across the board.

There's a lot to like about the almonds from Hopkins...and the "butters." Whenever we have gifted the products to clients, friends or family, the effect is super positive. Why? 1. Multiple flavors mean a variety of tastes are satisfied 2. Super fresh. Ordering from Hopkins mean supporting a small business and the "farmer" behind the product. Hopkins doesn't just sell almonds and almond butters, they grow them, roast them, flavor them... The whole process 3. The chocolate almond butter is a HUGE stand out. Do a taste test against any other chocolate butter. This one tastes more fresh and authentic. It's not burdened with extra sugars. Tip: add a big spoonful to your next smoothie. 4. The packaging is upscale and simple and is another reason we enjoy gifting the product. 5. Almonds are good for you -- Double Bonus! If you want almonds, think Hopkins Ag.

These are the real deal almonds! I have been looking for raw almonds this last week. I usually get them at Trader Joes but there isn't one on the way to work and im lazy and havent gone. Found these guys at the SoCo Farmers Market. While talking to the lady there I tried 6 different flavors and was getting schooled on the latest news on almonds. So let me now edumacate you on the breaking news!!! All raw almonds sold in grocery stores are now all pasterized!!! This is a big NO and not a good thing for those of us that like to eat raw almonds as a very good healty snack. Almonds are packed full of healthy nutrients such as Vitamin E, iron, calcium, magnesium, fiber, protein, essential fatty acids in the form of omega 3 and omega 6 and antioxidants. They are rich in mono and poly unsaturated fats which help lower bad LDL cholesterol levels. So eating Almonds helps the heart a great deal. When almonds are pasteurized, they lose many of their nutrients and health benefits so it's not good at all. Hopkins raw almonds are unpasturized so you get all the good health benefits. They have a great fresh sweet taste and are meaty. I picked up 2 bags of the raw ones and 2 smaller bags of the blanched Salted Rosemary and the Chili & Lemon which were just seasoned perfectly to snack on watching the game. It unpasturized raw almonds yummy goodness!

    Hopkins AG Farmer's Market stand.
    . ..

While strolling down Newport Ave (09-18-2013) at the OB Farmer's Market I came upon Hopkins AG almond stand which was offering 'free' samples so you know this was a must stop and see. I stopped and was pleased to see that every almond on sale at Hopkins AG stand also had 'free' samples next to them. The samples were placed in plastic cups and you could shake out a few directly into your hand. I decided to give the 'Honey Cinnamon,' 'Line & Sea Salt,' & 'Raw.' These almonds were amazing. I immediately asked the staff working what made the almonds from Hopkins AG so much different. I was told that Hopkins AG is a family farmed operation that began in the 1900's. Hopkins AG presently owns and operates 3,000 acres of almonds in the Southern San Joaquin Valley. Farming almond orchards in this area of California provides the almonds the optimum climate for growing what Hopkins AG claims is the World's best almonds (I agree). The staff member working spoke to me about the quality of Hopkins AG. I was told that Hopkins AG is dedicated to providing the freshest, highest quality almonds you can find on the market today. With Hopkins AG you will enjoy unpasteurized number one supreme nonpareil almonds and in my opinion you will experience the difference in freshness and flavor immediately. Hopkins AG almonds are picked, flavored and ready to eat / be sold within 72 hours unlike a majority of the almonds you find on the shelves at Trader Joe's, Whole Foods or any other market. In my opinion it simply does not get any fresher than Hopkins AG almonds. All Hopkins AG almonds are made fresh with no preservatives. With the holiday season approaching I am already planning on sending these almonds out as gifts. At the OB Farmer's Market you could choose from various flavors: Dry Roasted, Lime & Sea Salt, Chipotle "Spicy," Italian, Honey Cinnamon, Honey Vanilla, Mexican Chocolate (Yes, Mexican Chocolate), Raw & Raw "In-Shell." Hopkins AG even offers 100% Raw & Roasted Almond Butter. As stated above if you are looking to send these out as gifts Hopkins Ag offers a variety of almond packages that I think everyone will love and with an easy ordering process it is a win, win situation for myself. Hopkins AG can fill simple orders or large corporate orders. I am a big fan of the Gold box gift set where you can select what type of almonds you want added to your order. Hopkins AG has a great website and you can even track your order after you place it. I love this feature=)

Honey almond butter!!!!! It may not be the cheapest, but its the official! Good, tasty almonds too! Try a sample at a farmers market near you!

I'm not a big raw nut person & I am obsessed with Hopkins. I usually get vanilla honey (to die for). Their almond butters are also amazing... you must sample the Mexican chocolate (sugar has been added to this one). They have some interesting flavors that'll take your tastebuds on a pleasant adventure. I've also caught myself buying stuff from their online store too! They're located in little Italy and I usually park 1 or 2 blocks away. (Mexican chocolate almond butter pictured - $10) for a decent sized container.

    The best almonds ever!

Other than its sister store, Iowa Meat Farms, Tip Top Meats in Carlsbad (yes, they have returned), and the Wise Ox, also in Carlsbad, there are hardly any real butcher shops around. But these guys know what they are doing. Try their burgers and meatloaf. They are easy to cook at home. Try their steaks. You can get a legitimately excellent steak here for a fraction of what you would pay at a steakhouse and it will be BETTER than the steakhouse version. Make sure you ask the counter guys to season it for you before they wrap it up. Try their freshly-made sandwiches. Make sure you try their beans behind the deli counter. Their pimento dip in the refrigerated area is legendary and more addictive than crack (or so I have read). They have interesting sodas, craft beers, different mustards, El Indio chips, fresh breads, and a small but very well-curated wine selection. Is there anything they do not do well here? "No," is the answer to that question. They do everything well here. They have their own parking lot but it fills up quickly. There is not much other parking in the area. In the past, I have walked several blocks away in the residential neighborhood to get to the store when there is no parking available. And it was worth it.

Simple and authentic, the focaccia like bread used on their sandwiches is to die for and all the ingredients are freshly imported, which elevate the meal. We both looked at each other after our first bite - it was like we fell in love all over again, but with the hand-crafted sandwich. The ambience is pretty basic just as you would expect any other type of deli. There's limited seating, but great for ease and convenience to go. The staff were also awesome. The space has housed a couple of short-lived entities after a longtime rice bowl eatery closed its doors a few years ago. The small plaza had limited parking with about a dozen spaces for the customers of the tenants. The business was not fully up to speed yet during my visit so this feedback is mainly for a sandwich. The grocery aspect was in full view as there were shelves with dried goods and displays of refrigerated products. I was told that pasta dishes and other food offerings will be added to the menu which only comprised of several sandwiches available from 10:30 to 3:30. The prices ranged from $15 to $19. I chose the Americano which consisted of asiago fresco, prosciutto, genoa salami, coppa, bell peppers, and lettuce on focaccia. The sandwich was sliced into two square halves and wrapped in foil. I liked the variety of deli meats included, however the size was small for $18. A spread of some sort would have also enhanced the flavors of the ingredients as the product was a bit dry. I will come back to try the pasta and whatever other hot dishes they may have. For now, I gave a three star rating for Gusto Deli & Bistro.

[Parking]: Parking can be somewhat difficult during busy weekends, but there are designated parking lots throughout Liberty Station so it will require a bit of patience and driving around to find an available spot. [Amenities]: Free Wi-Fi and public restrooms are available. The market has multiple patio seating areas. There is a bar called Mess Hall Bar with TVs, but they were not showing the sports games our party wanted to watch. Please note that the food hall is located close to San Diego International Airport so visitors can hear noises on airplanes taking off and getting ready to land. [Vendors]: The market has some vendors selling books and handcrafted items. As for the food options, I thought they were fairly mediocre compared to other food halls in Los Angeles or Orange County. Some recommended options include Parana (empanadas), Wicked Maine Lobster (lobster rolls), Kebab Craft (Mediterranean food), and Mama Made Thai (Pad Thai). [Conclusion]: While it is great to see San Diego have a food hall that houses various cuisines in one spot, the market has a subpar parking situation, noise pollution from airplanes, and not-so-exciting food options. P.S. - If visitors have extra time to spare, then definitely walk around and check out the nearby art galleries and small museums.
