Senior Luncheon, Thursday, August 27, 2026 @ 1p.m. Table for 8…read more We were each escorted to our table by Jay as we arrived. We were in a cute little back area with our own restroom steps away. The service staff was very welcoming, friendly, courteous, patient, and very helpful. Salmon BLT with fries. The lady says it was delicious moist and very fiilling. Spicy Salmon tartar. The lady enjoyed this very much. Original burger done medium with fries. The lady enjoy half her meal because it was so filling and tasty. She took the rest to go. Tomato soup with Grilled cheese combo. The gentleman enjoyed every drop and bite. Watermelon salad was refreshing with the toppings. Another burger well done. The lady enjoyed the burger but, couldn't finished the fries so, her sidekick enjoyed them. Two grain bowls one with chicken and one without. The chicken was shared between both bowls. The bowls were eaten clean so, I guess they were yummy. The Half Chicken and waffle was amazingly moist and delicious. And I got a side of bacon to balance off the sweetness of the syrup. Lemonade was refreshing. Coffee was fresh and hit the spot( all three cups) This place was quite busy the whole time we were here. They have outside tables as well. Where we were the wall was up so we were inside with an outside veiw and feel. Stop in if you are in the neighborhood.

Oh, the memories.. I really wanted breakfast but it was like 4pm and that menu option wasn't available but the host mentioned that they have a Happy Hour deal at the bar so I figured why not. Let me check out what they have to offer. They had some happy hour beverages but I'm not a big drinker. Besides I had to go to work. But for those who like wine, one type of IPA and margaritas, they had some special specials on those drinks. And on the food, can't remember what they really had besides the Mac and cheese dumplings, which I have never heard of, but I was ready to explore. So I ordered the dumplings with the cheese dipping sauce and they were OK. Not really my thing and I don't know if I will order them again per se but they were OK in my opinion. Next visit I'll try to get there for Breakfast/Brunch or dinner because I know those menus have some great options!

I've been going to Sweet Chick since there was only one location in Brooklyn. I was literally traveling from Jersey to Brooklyn just for the food, the drinks, and the experience, and I never minded doing it because it was always worth it. So when they opened the Ludlow Street location, I was excited because now I didn't have to make the trip to Brooklyn every time I wanted my chicken and waffles. Back then, Sweet Chick was an experience. They had the big specials board with rotating waffles, desserts, and seasonal items. Their chicken and waffles never missed. I honestly can't remember ever leaving disappointed. So this review is really hard for me. Back on June 26th, after work, my mom and I decided to grab dinner. I work in the LES, and she suggested Sweet Chick. I did tell her my brother Robert had gone recently and said it had changed a lot, but we figured we'd see for ourselves. We got there around 9-ish. The first thing we noticed... It was HOT. Not warm. Hot. Like, "why does it feel like a sauna in here?" hot. We've had enough hot weather this summer, so walking into a restaurant with little to no air conditioning was honestly uncomfortable. We actually debated leaving before we even ordered, but decided to stick it out. Unfortunately... it never got better. The service also wasn't what I remembered. I'm really big on customer service, and Sweet Chick has always had amazing service whenever I've gone. This time it just felt different. The attentiveness wasn't there, and the overall vibe just felt... off. Even the menu has changed. My mom used to love their kale salad, but now it's made differently with things like dates, and she wasn't interested in it anymore. For drinks, my mom ordered an espresso martini, and unfortunately she really didn't enjoy it. It was pretty bitter, and we couldn't quite figure out what was off about it. If I'm ordering an espresso martini, I have certain expectations, and this one just didn't hit for her. I ordered the Queen of New York, and I actually really enjoyed my drink. No complaints there. Now... the food. I ordered the Maple Chipotle Chicken & Sweet Potato Waffle. And this is where my heart really broke. Years ago, when they first introduced the sweet potato waffle as a special, I remember it actually tasting like sweet potato. This one... Honestly just tasted like a regular waffle. I kept looking for that sweet potato flavor, and it just wasn't there. The chicken itself was crispy and cooked well, but the maple chipotle sauce wasn't evenly coated. Some bites were really good, while other pieces were dry because they barely had any sauce on them. Another thing longtime Sweet Chick fans might notice is the butter service. I remember getting three or four different flavored butters, each in their own little container. This time we got two flavors together in one cup. It's a small thing, but it was one of those details that always made Sweet Chick feel special. My mom ordered the Carolina BBQ Chicken with the Grilled Corn Waffle. I'll be fair--her waffle absolutely tasted like a corn waffle. I tried it, and it was really good. She enjoyed her meal more than I did, although she also had a few pieces of chicken that weren't evenly coated with sauce and were a little dry. Overall, she thought it was okay. And I think that's really the word for this visit. Okay. Not terrible. But not the Sweet Chick we remembered. Maybe that's why this visit hit me so hard. When you've loved a place for years, you naturally compare it to what you know it can be. I genuinely hope this was just an off night because I have so many great memories here, and I'd honestly love to come back one day and have the Sweet Chick experience that made me fall in love with it in the first place. Because this restaurant has meant a lot to me over the years, and I'm rooting for it. I really am.

I'd absolutely include it because it reinforces the theme: the product was excellent; the hospitality and pacing killed the experience. The food was honestly the best part of the night -- a solid 4.5/5. Unfortunately, the overall experience was nowhere near what we expected from a restaurant at this price point. We started with the calamari, which was excellent. The giardiniera with it was an unexpected flavor combination that I loved. They also brought out an enormous loaf of fresh-baked Asiago bread with butter -- way more than two people needed, but damn, it was good. Both came out within minutes of ordering. We also ordered the cherry-smoked Old Fashioneds, and they were fantastic. Probably one of the best things we had all night. The presentation was really impressive: instead of simply smoking the glass, the cocktail arrived inside a glass box filled with smoke. The server placed it in front of us and we opened the door ourselves, letting the smoke roll out around the drink. Really cool presentation, and the cocktail tasted every bit as good as it looked. The problem? It took nearly 30 minutes to get them. They were so good I absolutely would have ordered a second round, but after waiting that long for the first one, we weren't willing to chance it. That's a missed sale and, more importantly, a missed part of the experience. In fact, we had finished our calamari before our drinks ever arrived. From the time we were seated, it took close to 10 minutes for our server to return for our drink and appetizer order, and then nearly another 30 minutes for the cocktails -- even after we reminded her. Our server was very sweet, but the interaction felt extremely scripted rather than genuine. We heard essentially the exact same questions and phrases repeated word-for-word at the tables on either side of us. She was also very slow getting back to us throughout the meal. For dinner, we shared the ribeye and Caesar salad because we were hoping to save room for dessert -- it was my birthday. The steak was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. At $60, it was exactly what I expected it to be. The Caesar was huge and very good. Everything we ate was delicious, although the food presentation felt surprisingly basic for the type of restaurant Double Cut positions itself to be. The bigger disappointment started before we even sat down. When we arrived, there were several people waiting and no host anywhere in sight. Multiple employees walked past carrying to-go orders without acknowledging anyone or even saying someone would be right with us. Because the entrance also serves Red's Piano Bar, we actually started wondering whether we were even in the right place. When the host finally appeared, there was no hello, no smile, no welcome. Just, "Do you have a reservation?" We gave him our name and were told, very matter-of-factly, that we would have to wait a few minutes. Five minutes later, he returned and led us directly into Red's Piano Bar. That was not what we had reserved. We specifically made a reservation at Double Cut for a quieter, elevated birthday dinner. Instead, we were being seated in a loud bar with red lighting, TVs on the walls and a table just feet from the bar. When we explained that our reservation was for Double Cut, we were told it was the same menu and that if we didn't sit there, we would have to wait considerably longer. So we sat. And frankly, that pretty much took the air out of the evening. Brian had planned a nice, romantic birthday dinner for me. Instead, we were sitting in a bar booth while he tried not to watch the baseball game playing on the TVs. It felt more like sitting in the bar area of a Chili's -- except without the Chili's hospitality or Chili's prices. Even the person who delivered our steak simply asked us to cut into it, said "enjoy," and walked away. No smile. No warmth. Completely transactional. Needless to say, we didn't stay for birthday dessert. We ate what we had ordered, paid the bill and left. The frustrating part is that the kitchen and bar are clearly doing a lot right. The food was genuinely very good, and that cherry-smoked Old Fashioned was outstanding. But at this price point, you're not just paying for a steak and a great cocktail. You're paying for hospitality, atmosphere, pacing and an experience. That part missed the mark by a mile.
