Best food we've had in the Red River Gorge. This farm-to-table restaurant changes its menu based on what is locally available, and its selection of local beers is bar none. Came here for breakfast for their last Saturday breakfast of the season! Super cute spot with only outdoor seating. They share a parking lot with a local crag, definitely a climber's haven! You order at the counter and then grab a table and they'll bring out your food. I got the biscuits and gravy with a duck egg and my wife got the breakfast plate. The biscuits and gravy were excellent! Some of the best I've had in a while. I would come back just for that! Especially given there aren't too many breakfast spots around the gorge. Wouldn't recommend, go somewhere else. It's not busy for a reason. The customer service severely lacks. The old cashier lady was rude from the start. I asked what her favorite thing in the menu was or what she recommended and she just scoffed the pesto chicken with zero enthusiasm. "Just get the pesto chicken people don't know what farm to table is and expect city food". Well don't get the pesto chicken, it's unseasoned and lacks flavor. Shes rude and is extremely unfriendly. We wished we had just walked away at that point. She rolls her eyes when you ask to try a beer and makes snide comments, "you guys been hiking you look tired". The potatoes look days old and have been sitting around from the day before. The bathrooms don't work and the girls who bring your food out lack customer service skills as well. I really wanted to like Hops, but this was one of the worst dining experiences we've had. We were first-time visitors and let staff know we didn't understand the ordering process (you pay upfront and expected to tip), but instead of helping, they were dismissive and made us feel uncomfortable right away. We ordered fish and chips and two meatloaf meals. For $15 plus extra for sides, we expected decent quality--but the food was honestly inedible. The meatloaf was extremely soft with a strange, unpleasant flavor. My child and I each took one bite and couldn't eat any more. My husband tried to address it and was brushed off. I then calmly asked for a partial refund ($30 out of our $80 bill) since most of the food was untouched. That's when the situation completely went downhill. The owner came out, opened the register, and threw cash at me in front of others. No conversation, no attempt to resolve anything--just an aggressive, disrespectful reaction. When I tried to clarify and return the extra money, it turned into a scene that was honestly embarrassing. At the end of the day, the food was bad but the way customers are treated here is worse. This isn't a place I would recommend for food at all. If anything, it seems like a spot people go to drink but if you're expecting a quality meal or basic customer service, this is not it. read more

We ended up here because most of the other spots around RRG are closed early in the week. It was hibachi day and we decided to do takeout because there wasn't a high chair for my littlest to sit in. We told the cashier it was to go and we sat and had a drink while we waited. A lady (who I'm assuming is the owner) brought out our food but it was made for dine in so I let her know we ordered it to go. The window directly to the kitchen was open and so was the kitchen door, and we heard her walk back and yell in a very condescending tone at the cashier that she didn't type "to go" correctly on the ticket. I understand it's frustrating when mistakes happen, but we felt very uncomfortable as a patron being able to hear how awful the employee was being treated over something like that. To make matters worse, she came back and said she had trouble getting it from the plate to the box so it was "messy". After paying $15 for a plate of food and it not being my fault it wasn't packed correctly, to just have it slung into a box was off putting. I felt like that could have been handled a little bit better than it was too. Charming spot right next to the crag! I love the location! Super convenient to grab a better on the outdoor patio after a day of climbing. One of the few restaurants in the area that is open earlier in the week - seems like most of the other options are closed Monday through Wedenesday. I appreciate that you can buy beer from here; they have quite the selection! I also stopped by for dinner with a large group of friends in the evening. You order at a counter and they bring your food to your table. There was a line when we arrived - I think this may be due to the lack of restaurant options on a Wednesday. The line did most quite slowly as folks were indecisive and they also take your drink order at that point. You wait at the counter for your cocktail then you find a seat. They have ample seating on their patio, including tables to accommodate large groups. That said, it seemed like they were a bit overwhelmed serving two large groups in succession. They also were not able to accommodate my friend's dietary needs that well. It was pasta night when we went. The ravioli I ordered was pretty good. I was intrigued by the sweet potato side dish, but was underwhelmed. I think the start of my meal was my cocktail! I think this might be a better spot to come for drinks and less so for dinner (or maybe when they aren't inundated by two large groups at the same time). read more

The vegan pasta tasted absolutely like vomit. I do not recommend the pasta nor coming here, they did not do anything to rectify the issue. Please save yourself the trouble of trying the pasta and your tastebuds because you will be tasting literal vomit all day, ironically my own vomit probably taste better than this. It was just ok. The beer cheese & pretzels was disappointing because it was just the hard pretzels you'd get at the grocery store. The beef enchilada tacos were ok, but they had diced tomatoes on top, not an enchilada sauce that the menu indicated. Hop's is a true diamond in the rough!!!! Delicious farm to table food-so fresh and exciting. The place itself is cute,hipp located on the roadside,but surrounded by wooded views,creek and sandstone mountain clifs. The stuff is professional and enthusiastic. The variety of local beers,bourbon,wines,meads and carefully crafted cocktails are amazing. The food was so fresh and delicious,honestly I never tested chicken so juicy and delicious in my lifetime. I ordered the vegetarian hibachi-it was flavorful,fresh and exciting. My husband ordered the chicken hibachi and it was delicious too! They were out of stake hibachi by 7pm. We also had cucumber salad and olive-feta dip for appetizers. We got a delicious,flavorful,healthy and fresh meal that we have been craving on or longer road trip from Florida to Kentucky. Beautiful, romantic setting!! Very nice, peaceful place to set outside and enjoy dinner. Limited menu, but that was expected. Husband got the steak hibachi, I got the chicken. Neither of us were fans of the sauce but the vegetables were crisp & delicious. The sauce wasn't terrible, but just not what we were expecting, lots of ginger in it & kinda generic (like something out of a microwave dish). Really great spot to stop and have a bite! Went for lunch on Tuesday and had some yummy tacos and their chips and black bean salsa were our favorite! We were visiting from Chicago to go hiking in the area and while there are only a few options for places to eat this place was a hidden gem. A great place with farm to table food. Red River Gorge owes us nothing. What a beautiful place, and no where in America have we recorded better, more welcoming experiences. Hops was no exception. We had a divine breakfast as we packed up to head home after 10 glorious days of hiking, kayaking, eating, laughing and relaxing. The pancakes with apple butter were heaven-sent; fluffy, flavorful and super fresh. Biscuits and gravy that offset the sweet of the pancakes and a breakfast burrito unlike any I've had, everything was just so fresh. The tomatoes tasted like tomatoes, and in today's mass produced food supply chains, that is a rare treat. All of the food is fresh and locally sourced and the owner is a local treasure. The outdoor eating area is like being in the yard of a good friend. I don't know if we'll ever be back this way, but for all who come, you must stop here. read more

We went to Hop's twice while staying in the Red River Gorge area. Great food and awesome beer + cocktail selection! One of the times was Taco Tuesday (4 tacos for $12.50) and there were plenty of taco options -- including vegan and vegetarian options. We ordered the shrimp & grits, sweet potato & black beans, beets & goat cheese, and fried egg one. Although we couldn't make it, they also do Happy Hour (check schedule) and live music on Fridays!
