We had high hopes after reading a few reviews, and they exceeded our expectations! The menu isn't big, but that's a good thing. They do a few things, and they do them REALLY well! 2nd trip to Winchester as spouse and I loved it so much 1st time had to return to Regeneration Distilling. This time the food options were underwhelming. settled on the Coney Dog and Macaroni Salad. Coney dog was different had fritos broke up on it and alot of seasoned meat. hardly any sauce. good...could have been better. went to the self serve Tea station. No ice, and no forks in silverware holder. oddly enough was given a soup spoon...I guess for the Macaroni Salad. service was just ok. will give it one more try, but wasnt wowed. read more

Absolutely love what they are doing with sweet potatoes!! The bar space is nice and open and decorated just rustic enough to match the historic building. The gal that toured us and provided our tasting was one of the friendliest gals we've come across in a long time! The moonshine is great, it's got just enough sweetness to counteract the wonderful moonshine bite. The tasting itself is tiny, like super tiny! A couple of the tastings barely wet our tongue so we couldn't really get a feel for the flavor. We enjoyed a couple cocktails and definitely enjoyed our chat with the bartender and a group of others that came in. This is a very small and unique Distillery in a very historic building downtown. Definitely a must visit type of place. There is a kitchen, CBD products, and a small bar. I just had a Bloody Mary and a great conversation with a very social and friendly bartender. I wish I had more time to learn more about this place and have lunch, but I only had time for a drink. Five of us traveling together decided to come to this restaurant because we saw wings on the ad. Turns out, they are a farm-to-table and the menu changes frequently. Our server was Tammy and it was her first day. Obviously she is a pro, as I would never have known. She was great! The food--mediocre. Two of us had Philly cheesesteak sandwiches with potato wedges--pretty good! Two people had Colby jack grits. They were brown!!! They looked really bad--and tasted worse. Both parties sent back the grits. The BLT was good. Chef salad--good. They had no desserts. The cocktails were good, and I actually bought some of their house-made brandy. I feel like they have the alcohol covered, but they need a lot of work on the offerings and quality of food. read more

I'm not understanding any of the positive reviews of this place - either customers have really low standards, or they business has recently had a very unfortunate decline in service... We went in with a work group on a Thursday, everyone arriving at staggered times in pairs or threes, and the place was empty aside from us (maybe 15 total?). There were two women working the bar and seating area, one male 'cook' (although I'm not sure anything is made fresh, from the menu and the dishes I saw come out it appears everything can be reheated from frozen then covered in or coupled with a sauce), and one preteen boy (??!!) sitting on the long side of the bar; there was also one adult male in a polo walking around for a bit, but he acted as if he was off work. We were the only two people at the bar (aside from the kid), on the short side closer to the seating area, and everyone else already had a drink. Somehow it took us 25 minutes to receive bottled drinks, and we had to actively recruit the woman behind the bar to do something other than talk to the kid or wander around somewhat aimlessly. God forbid you ask about happy hour, which is clearly written on their chalkboard as 4-6, but when we asked the woman behind the bar, she defaulted to the other server, who texted someone (??) to inquire, and that person responded 7-9 pm, but maybe just for food, or does that include drinks too? The world may never know, we certainly didn't, as there was zero clarification (or any sense of urgency to offer it). My husband ordered some overpriced (full price, not happy hour) wings, and I ended up only having one drink after he had to chase down the 'bartender' (term used loosely) for a second. If this were the only bar in town, I'd say buy packaged liquor and take it back to your house/hotel - this place is more of a frustration than a desirable destination. One star for the cool reuse of a historic building, and one star for the ladies working, because despite their complete and utter lack of organization and professionalism, they were nice, and did provide me with warm water to make a bottle for my baby. read more

My family recently visited the Winchester/Red River Gorge area of Kentucky. It was a beautiful day and we were walking around downtown Winchester. I looked down a side street and spotted what looked like several stores. Just on a lark I told my wife, "let's go down there". We did, and were extremely pleased to stumble upon this little distillery. We were equally pleased to discover that they served food and were kid friendly. Set in an old, small, factory that also served as a church, and is now completely remodeled, the atmosphere is laid back and charming. Being bourbon fans, we ordered one of their special cocktails - the Daniel Boone's Last Stand - it was obvious right then and there that this little place, down a side street in Winchester Kentucky, was extraordinary. The mixology was outstanding and the cocktail fantastic. On to the food!! My wife and I split the fried pickles, done correctly, slices, not spears. They were wonderful. We also split one of their burgers that had bacon jam, aioli, and the usual veggies. It was in the "smash burger" style and it was truly wonderful. We chose to have sweet potato fries with our burger. These aren't your run-of the-mill sweet tater fries. Truly awesome crispy on the outside, tender inside and covered (liberally) with brown sugar - I can't rave enough.I haven't mentioned that all is Farm to Table? Yeah!! The waitstaff was fantastic! Our waitress/bartender was truly a joy. I can't remember her name (that's due to my horrible memory). I can tell you that she was personable, attentive and awesome. The rest of the staff, chef included (owner?? Don't know) came out and spoke with us as well. If you are EVER in Winchester Kentucky, this is a MUST visit. We went on to The Gorge, but on our return trip home we planned things so we could stop here and eat again - same remarkable experience. Go eat here!!!!! One more thing. They are a distillery and make truly unique Sweet Potato Moonshine. Of course I bought a bottle. And.........very soon they will be releasing their own bourbon!! The food here is pretty good and the atmosphere is great. If the weather is nice they have outdoor seating. The sweet potato fries probably are my favorite item that I have tried on the menu. The Willy's burger sounds better than it actually is, but it's still not bad. Romp in the Woods cocktail was a bit sweet but very good. They make their own bourbon that's good in the mixed drinks. I stopped for lunch here in the middle of a long bike ride. Sorry that I couldn't sample the spirits. But the half pound cheeseburger was delicious and cooked to order. After reading other reviews, it may have been a mistake not to get the bacon jam. But the brown sugar on the sweet potato fries was a nice touch. The staff was friendly and attentive. Our server recognized we were sweaty cyclists and brought us much needed water right away. While we were eating the owner walked in. Apparently, our status as out of town cyclists came with a bit of celebrity as the owner approached our table and thanked us twice for visiting her restaurant. Stopped in here on a Friday while passing through on a trip. Great atmosphere. Food okay (fried pickles really good). Drinks are strong. Two stars for really bad management though. Our waitress was working her butt off serving most of the tables and tending the bar while her three coworkers did the following: 1. Served one table of regulars (we assume since they were on a first name basis) 2. Danced with a friend who was there filming the music act. 3. Repeatedly passed by our food under the warming lights, paused, looked at it, and kept going. 4. One who appeared "in charge" announced last call for food (we had been waiting close to an hour at the point to order as one of only three tables left in the joint), noted when we raised our hand, and then proceeded to motion to our waitress who was tending bar to get our order while the "in charge" continuing to just hang out and dance. 5. Ordered their own food (while we waited) and then proceeded to eat it behind the bar while watching our waitress tend bar and try to also serve tables. Horrible management. Our waitress needs to find a better place to work, as her coworkers stink. read more

Although the outdoor seating was nice.. it didn't make up for the slow and unfriendly service. It seemed like they were out of multiple things and the waiters did not let us know until some of our food had come out... so we had to make quick substitutions. The food we did get was delicious though! I would recommend the fried pickles and burgers. After spending a week backpacking in the Gorge, my daughter and I stopped and had an excellent dinner at Wildcat Willys. I had a phenomenal locally sourced New York strip and my daughter loved her fried chicken tenders and fries. This historical old building still retains 3 of the original church windows and the history of the structure is outlined prominently on the walls. My wife and I tried Wildcat Willy's for the first time tonight. The decor is spartan, and the mismatched chairs were hard and uncomfortable. But the old factory/church building is quaint and interesting. The menu was limited, and does not include several items listed on the website menu. Service was good. My catfish was fresh and flaky, and the batter was tasty. Not the best catfish in town, but very good. My wife's fried chicken was the same - not the best but was good. Our fried potato wedges were very good. The coleslaw was different than others, a bit chunkier, and was good.....but did not convince me to finish it. Prices are reasonable, but we noted that we can get better fried chicken and catfish with larger portions at another local eatery. Overall it was a good meal and we left satisfied, and agreed we would go back sometime to try the burgers/sandwiches for lunch. read more

We stopped today for lunch, I don't know where to start. Ordered an adult beverage never got it, bartender/manager was working in the kitchen which is fine but then comes out sits and talks to regulars I'm assuming. Waited over forty minutes for two salads one being a Caesar that had no romaine lettuce at all, tomato juice in it and an onion. Bartender said house salad no onions and when was corrected saying it should be a Caesar she dropped the plate anyway and brought park cheese on the side. Then we were overcharged, her family came in so we got put on the back burner again the server was new and just kept apologizing. I've heard good things about Wildcat Willy's and we were looking for something to do on a winter Saturday so went for lunch. It's in a cool historical church and it has an interesting menu. We had caprese chicken and ratatouille and a club sandwich. They were both really good and not just run of the mill. They make their own bread that was grilled, the sandwich had chicken breast and crispy bacon. It was mmm. Willy's is a farm to table restaurant so I'll bet it will be even better in the summer with local vegetables. Service was good. read more

We stopped in here on a Saturday night (during COVID) for dinner. It's a really cool building but the menu wasn't quite what I expected from the Yelp reviews. I'm guessing they scaled it back either due to the season or to the pandemic. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. The chicken was seasoned but was very salty. The fries were great. While I was a little disappointed in my meal, I would like to give this place another shot during the summer or post COVID. read more

Came on recommendation from friends for a business lunch with two out of towners. We arrived at the tail end of lunch. Ordered the burger which was described as fantastic by friend. Waitstaff asked how I'd like it cooked and I responded medium rare. Waiting in anticipation for my juicy burger as I learned that Restaurant was owned by Laura of Laura's lean beef fame. After 40 mins we asked waitress about the food. She acted put out but said she'd ask. Came back and said 5 more mins. After 10 mins, I was the recipient of an incinerated hockey puck of a burger and my sweet potato fried looked like dried leaves from off the street. They did comp the $13.00 hockey puck and 1/2 priced my Colleagues but needless to say I was mortified! Won't be back on my nickel. read more
