Lobster Roll with Brussels
Amanda M.

This was our first stop while visiting Maine so we didn't know what to expect. We were in a tour to find the best lobster roll, and Hooligans fell short. The lobster was just okay, and didn't taste as fresh as expected for the price. I'd skip this one and pick another spot on the pier to try out if you're looking for a Lobster roll.

Me and the boys came here today to say yummy yummy in my digestive system, but upon leaving we had to review the place in ultimate failure. Unless you are coming here to drink it is not worth it coming for the food. Literally this place is run by a shaco one trick. 4 of us, here is how it went: Fish and chips: this meal was like eating a deep-fried flip-flop. It was soggy on the crust, but the fish inside was somehow completely dry. About as dry as texting a high school thot. the fish did not fall apart correctly like a normal flaky fish does and the fries were also soggy. This was also served on a paper plate covered by newspapers and had to be eaten with plastic utensils. Awful Chicken Caesar wrap: "inside the wrap I was served dry chicken that tastes brined right out the salt water below us. The wrap was fine otherwise, but the pickle I was served had more warts than the average witches foot. The store-bought lays on the side of the plate though, pretty good." Cheeseburger: The cheeseburger was good but my fries were so bad. The ketchup is very watery, although it came out of packets I don't know how that's even possible. The best tasting thing in this meal was the Scooby snacks, I didn't know they gave us Scooby snacks at a bar. Poutine: we split this among the four of us, it was disgusting. This was like putting diarrhea and rubber cement all over fries and calling it poutine. This was insulting to my heritage. And finally- the mozzarella sticks: I took this personal, this is an insult to my intelligence. I spent $15 to receive six mozzarella sticks. The menu did not list them as mozzarella sticks, I did not know they were mozzarella sticks, when they came out of the kitchen they were hard as rocks. They had to be brought out in two containers because I guess you can't carry six in one container, and the cheese was so cold. One of them had goop in it, and the marinara I got was homemade. Do you think that would make it good but in reality I just had a very large chunks of tomato in it, making it tomato sauce not marinara. After finishing my six months Arella sticks I decided to go get a Subway as neither was a full or satisfied. The subway cost less and filled me five times as much and tasted better and also had real cheese. We were one of two tables in our party, the other table generally agreed with the words it wasn't great but it was OK, averaging a 4 out of 10. In total for 10 people cost us about $250, and while that's reasonable for a party of 10 my mozzarella sticks say otherwise. Unless you are coming here to drink and only to drink steer clear and eat pizza (or the burger) instead. Story from my aunt: The waitress dropped sauce ketchup packets on the floor and another waitress picked it up off the dirty carpet and just put it on the fries and served it to the customer. This all happened while I was waiting for the bathroom, because I guess the bathrooms here are just not epic.

Lobster Roll
Eric O.

Excellent waiter-young guy was working really hard to cover multiple tables and gave all great customer service; seated right away and the food was fresh; especially the Lobster roll, the chicken Cesar wrap was freshly grilled and perfectly sauced. Service justified the price.

Service was good. Food wasn't great. I'm pretty sure they purchase a bunch of frozen food and heat it.

You're…read moremet with the lingering scent of beer soaked into the floor from nights that were clearly busier than anyone could properly manage. Now, most people would interpret that as neglect. But that's not quite right. It's evidence. Evidence that this is a place that has been tested, repeatedly, and continues to operate under pressure. And strangely enough, that inspires a certain confidence. You know, almost immediately, the drinks are going to be done properly. I ordered something simple. chicken fingers with buffalo sauce and bleu cheese. Nothing remarkable, and that's precisely the point. They weren't trying to reinvent anything. They were just... competent. And competence, especially in an environment that borders on chaos, is not trivial. It's reliability. It's order, holding its ground. The service reflected that same tension. Reese, the bartender, was clearly under strain. busy to the point where most people would start to fracture, but she didn't. She held the line. And if you've spent enough time in this industry, you know that's not easy to do. There's something almost admirable about watching someone maintain composure when everything around them is loud, demanding, and slightly out of control. And that's really the essence of the place. It's loud... almost aggressively so. Packed. Borderline unruly. At one point, there was a couple engaged in what was clearly a volatile argument... infidelity, perhaps? but the noise swallowed the details. It didn't matter. The specifics were irrelevant. What you were witnessing was raw human behavior, unfiltered, playing out in real time. And oddly enough, it fit perfectly. This is not a place for quiet reflection or carefully structured conversation. It's a place where order and chaos collide and neither one fully wins. But if you're the kind of person who can tolerate that, or even enjoy it... there's something undeniably compelling about it. If you want quiet, look elsewhere. But if you're willing to step into something louder, messier, and far more alive, then this place offers exactly that. It's not refined. It's not restrained. It's something closer to a modern day bacchanal. And for better or worse, that's the point.

For my entree, I had the glazed salmon with coconut curry. The salmon was cooked perfectly, and the coconut curry was rich and flavorful. I am a coconut curry lover through and through, and the only thing that would have taken it over the top for me would be a little ginger and a touch of scotch bonnet for that gentle kick. The service was outstanding. Marissa was incredible, attentive, friendly, and full of great recommendations. I will definitely be back when I visit next summer. My only regret is that I didn't make it out early enough for karaoke. I was really looking forward to belting out my killer rendition of my default karaoke track = En Vogue's "What a Man." Oh well, there's always next summer I suppose. Keep in mind there is a $5-7 cover charge depending on the night, and they close around 1:00am. Also, there's a teeny bit of outside seating around the perimeter of the bar. But don't even think about jumping off the pier! If you're caught, my bouncer-friend told me the fine is a couple G's.
